HD Zelda

tangled was the best movie of 2010. and im a 27 year old man. there. i said it.
The whole time I was watching it, I was thinking, "I need to make a thread on GAF saying that Zelda needs to look like this." Tangled is absolutely the perfect look for Zelda.

this, but in 1080P

Monster Hunter is interesting. Nintendo has been looking a lot at that game, we were originally expecting the current Zelda to take inspiration from it. It actually didn't do that at all.

Maybe, I think they wanted to surpass it graphically. As of now they kind of failed even though Skyward Sword looks very interesting.

Skyward Sword feels like the least hyped Zelda game ever..

It really does. Although this is mostly Nintendo's fault. I feel like they haven't done a good job at hyping it at all.

Because they don't want to let the hype crash as bad as in Twilight Princess.

A game without handholding!
That would be brilliant.
Just throwing you into the action without a dumb tutorial village.
What most people don't realize is that the first dungeon of Zelda 3 WAS the tutorial, yet it's perfectly tense and fun to play.
Good times...
Also no more stupid naviesque helpers and no more linear worlds.

This would be awesome. Even if they make it optional. "Have you every played a Zelda Game before" Yes No?

I struggled through the opening of Twilight Princess and by the time I got done w/ the tutorial I didn't want to play anymore.

Yeah, same here.
I wasn't able to replay TP because of that village. Same for OoT. It's just such a turnoff.
It's also not very nintendo to build in such a flowstopper into a game.
Team zelda totally forgot what made their games great in the first place or they want to appeal to people who usually dont like zelda at all.
No more handholding in Zelda please.

They did, just not artistically.

not to mention MH3 is already out and we only seen one area of SS (which will be altered for the final release). it's kinda hard to know what influence we seen Nintendo take from MH

Hey I like the helpers! They're my friends that I experience the adventure with.

The long openings are annoying though.

How about we nix the whole long tutorial process by creating a Zelda that goes back to SNES style?! Who's with me?!

Hmm maybe optional helpers then for people who like them.
I want my zelda without helpers.

Ocarina of Time fans who essentially want every single Zelda game to be a remake or expansion on Ocarina of Time. Any time Nintendo deviates from the very standard OoT formula they get all bitchy.

Majora's Mask - WAAAAAA YOU ONLY GET TO PLAY AS CHILD LINK. NINTENDO IS KIDDEH. THE GAME IS TOO HARD. WAHH!

Wind Waker - FUCK NINTENDO. WHAT IS THIS KIDDY SHIT. YOU CAN'T PLAY AS ADULT LINK AND IT HAS THIS STUPID GIRLY ART STYLE.

Twilight Princess - *CUMS*

Twilight Princess is the worst 3D Zelda because it's the game Nintendo made to appease all the whiny bitches who were complaining about MM and WW games being nothing like Ocarina of Time.

You judge games by taking their alleged target audience as the basis rather than their merits, and that makes your opinion worthless.

I've wanted Zelda to go back to that style a long time ago. Specifically that style of gameworld and art.

Yeah, remember when you went to a place and you saw a chest sitting on top of a hill and you fell down a hole only to emerge out of a mini cave up at that hill with the chest much later in the game.
Those stupid "beam holes" from the 3D zelda games ruined a lot of the world design and took away lots of nice exploration touches.

Yup. Just take it back. Costs significantly less to produce and could be marketed at a lower price to increase adoption, not to mention being in a format more people are familiar with and won't need a tutorial to play.

NEW ZELDA HD.
Believe!

They need to get away from vivid cartoonish rendering of any kind. Keep the game in subdued earth tones with maybe a hand-drawn style inspired by that old Zelda art. The game itself should reinforce that with a desolate, dangerous world that feels more like a greek odyssey.

I agree with the first and third panels, but emphatically disagree with the second, since Wind Waker was one of the most glorious and beautiful visions I've experienced as a gamer.

New Legend of Zelda will be the last thing Nintendo does, only when all other options are exhausted.

Aonuma: "Hey guys we haven't turned Link into a Vampire yet, right? Lets do that first".
Introducing: The Zelda Cycle!

Nintendo, please do not hold Ocarina up as some model for Zelda. If any 3D Zelda should be a compass, it's Majora's Mask, which was infinitely superior to OOT in every way (except perhaps physical size of the world, but I'm reaching here).

OOT was amazing if you didn't have a PlayStation and/or weren't into RPGs. Otherwise, it was kind of a disappointment compared to its closest siblings Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask, the best of the 2D and 3D Zeldas, respectively.

Which, if that's actually the case, is why Aonuma should be convinced into retirement.

1080p Zelda!

the Dolphin emu shows the way, it doesn't have to be radically different. just some upgraded textures, more detailed models, but nothing totally new. and it will be glorious!

I liked the wind waker style too! The second one is more about the gimmicks that nintendo keeps cramming into zelda.

Ah, okay then. I just detected a bit of mockery of the WW style in there.

But yeah, no more trains.

The artists are trustworthy in offering their own interpretations of the legend. Personally it'd be fascinating to see a cross between the whimsical Wind Waker and the gloomy Majora's Mask. A dark fairy tale.

There are probably a few people who make the decision: Miyamoto, Aonuma, and maybe Nakano. The main artists just carry out the vision. Listening to fan input can be helpful.

I missed this part earlier. Wow.

And yet so many gamers bitched about it and called it "Celda" and such.

Everyone wants Zelda to be like the last picture. Wind Waker had colorful look but in content it wasn't anything like Link hugging rabbits or something.

Sorry guys but the only good answer for an HD Zelda is in the style of ALTTP's instruction manual artwork.

I think I've replayed Wind Waker more than any other Zelda game. In fact more than any other game period. It really was an incredible adventure.

I remember playing Eternal Sonata and thinking to myself, "Wow, I'd love to see Zelda like this!"

The graphics in Eternal Sonata was some of the most beautiful and artistic environments I've seen.

I hope Nintendo can do something like that with Wii2.

Tell me more because last time i checked i had one and was interested in those and oot is still my favorite game of all time.

It sucks that I lent a friend Wind Waker and I lost the disc. Just like my original No More Heroes disc except that time it was entirely my friend's fault. :/

Although eternal sonata is great looking its too jrpg in visual style for Zelda imo. The art styles of Zelda clearly have their influences but they never look like a specific trend or style. Like WW, its definitely cell shaded but its not like all the other cell shaded stuff that was coming out at the time.

I hope for the sake of Zelda, it is none of those things and just surprises us that we don't know what to make of it anymore
