HD Zelda

I actually wouldn't mind Zelda looking a bit like Assassins Creed.

The game had a good amount of colour but I could see the need by Nintendo to "fantasy" it up a bit but I think the general style would work well for Zelda.

Nice shot. I think with a bit more color and fantasy style, Zelda Cafe would be great looking somewhat like that (though better).

More reason for Aonuma to do something else and get off Zelda. I remember hearing how he doesn't do jumping because he doesn't like jumping. Doesn't like Mario because of jumping.

The stupid thing is Zelda actually does include a fair bit of "jumping" from platform hopping to hopping around an enemy, to jump slashing, to jumping/diving off high platforms. They've just always resisted giving us a button to control the jumping which I disagree with. Sometimes I feel that controlling Link is getting stale, particulary in TP. I think giving us control over jumping could make Link funner to control.

think it looks great myself, and it wont age that badly at all. Certainly is some lower res textures in places but overall the image is far nicer then Twilight Princess.

The wind waker style from the ground up for something more powerful than PS360 would be incredible. It won't happen though for other reasons.

Why post 3 Wind Waker shots of mostly ocean? I haven't played it since it launched on GC, but there were definitely better looking areas to showcase in HD.

?

Such as?

They've gone back to a pseudo WW style in SS, and Cafe is more powerful.......

an unscaled gc/wii game doesn't make it automatically a HD game.

It won't sell. Being too cartoony or stylized turns off the mainstream fanbase. SS is more like TP but softer.

I don't think this is much of an issue anymore after Wind Waker turned out to be so popular. If anything, Nintendo would probably hold back on a stylized Zelda just to show off how powerful Cafe can be by making a more detailed Zelda.

How did Wind Waker turn out to be so popular? It didn't sell all that well.

Then they can quit and go play FPS or 99 percent of other heavy CG polygon games out there. Its the right direction to go in, it meshing best with Japanese art and actually offers something different visually then 99 percent of market out there.

D'aww, did I huwt youw feewings?

I'm sorry I'm not a raging fanboy. I fucking love Wind Waker, but that is ugly as sin if you look at it from a distance that is less than twenty feet.

True but I'm talking about post-mortem impressions. Most people aren't saying Wind Waker is "too kiddy" looking anymore and Nintendo have been pushing the Wind Waker look for a while. I bet a ton of people are used to it by now.

Almost everyone who hated the look before still hates the look. They're just less inclined to be vocally vitriolic, as they game is old, and a "better looking" Zelda has been released since.

Wind Waker actually looks better presented in GC resolution than HD. Still the prettiest game ever made, though.

*thumbs up*

There are other games that I think are prettier, but it's somewhere near the top.

thread is lacking some pics of the only Zelda that looks hot in HD regardless.

Boy I bet those lo-res HUD elements are irritating! :)

Doesn't really answer your question, but I can guarantee this is gonna happen again when Skyward Sword comes out.

But it seems the issue is people hate change, then get used to it, and then see the beauty in the game instead of holding onto their unmet expectations.

what does the resolution of a game have to do with its contents anyway?
Absolutely nothing. Butthe PS360 are commonly called the "HD Twins" mainly because they have the power to pull off HD resolutions and loads of other effects

Must be the level, but I just saw Brotherhood at my friends house and it looked browner than Gears of War.

Rome becomes more colorful the more you liberate areas from the Borgias.

There have been some great ideas in this thread as to what HD Zelda should look like!

I think it is interesting that starting around Majora's Mask, the Zelda series has adopted many types of artistic styles. You can see influences from iconography (take a look at Beedle), Middle Eastern and Indian art (Skyward Sword's GDC trailer shows this off fairly well), and even design choices centered around old European paintings (I think Twilight Princess shows this the best). The series has taken a lot of inspiration from around the world and uses bits and pieces to create a unique style, and I don't think we have to worry about an HD Zelda game featuring terrible art design.

I wonder if an HD Zelda game will use more effects (Twilight Princess style, like with lighting, bloom, and particles) or go for clearer presentation (Skyward Sword style, with crisper models and environments)? Any thoughts? I see benefits to both, and would like either.

I've enjoyed all the pictures that everyone is sharing. There are some videos online of Gamecube games being run on Dolphin in 1080p that look quite good. I particularly like these ones of Twilight Princess:

Crazy how much just better resolution and good anti-aliasing can make all the difference.

I only want a yellow-brown field area. i love this kind of stuff. with windmills.

a bit brighter than that.

and I want trees and stuff that is totally made up. you know, weird colourful surroundings that are not to be found in reallife

I never thought Twilight Princess looked that much better through emulation. There was an interesting texture pack add on that looked nice with TP though.

The more accurate version.

Oh man, some of the posts in this thread make me a sad puppy. Seeing things like Assassins Creed and generic western fantasy art posted is enough to make me shake my head. Here I'm thinking Twilight Princess had the weakest visual identity and you people want to take that even further into hyper-realism.

In my opinion, what they're doing with Zelda:SS is the way to go. The only thing better would be all-out Wind Waker-esque sequel that ignores the haters who (as that /b/ photo implies) barely know what they want in the first place..

We said it back then and we'll say it again: Wind Waker's style will age better than most other games of its time.

Please no. I want colors in my Zelda.

This is what HD Zelda should look like.

Still no :/

Take the concept art for Skyward Sword, and apply the semi-watercolor painting style to a steam punk world. But seriously where is my steam punk Zelda game?

I go back and forth on this issue all the time. Sometimes I say, give us HD Wind Waker. Other times I say, no give us something dark & gritty like TP.

I'm sure it's been said already, but having the same artstyle as the Adventure of Link instruction book would be great.

Wow, this is the first time I've heard someone call the controls of a game stale. This stuff is getting out of control.

It's a strange word to describe controls, but he's right. Zelda needs a fucking jump button. |:

Just got done watching the Skyrim gameplay video a few times. If Zelda Cafe can look a little better than that while running at 30fps 1080p, I'll be very very happy.

With the proposed specs by IGN, it better do it at 60fps and with higher resolution textures.
