HD Zelda

Thanks for this. I couldn't find anything close to this, try as I might.

So, is anyone else still underwhelmed by the "Skyward Sword" title? It's the first console Zelda one that didn't make me instantly go, "That's badass!"

i think twilight princess might be the best one since a link to the past (the wind waker is good too, for similar reasons). actually, i think those might be the only good subtitles. ocarina of time as a name is so heavily associated with the game's 'best of all-time' status that nobody really thinks about how ridiculous a title it is.

Really? I remember the Internet backlash about "Twilight Princess." People were saying it sounded like a toy product line for little girls or maybe a very pink cartoon series.

The best Zelda title so far is "The Hyrule Fantasy: The Legend of Zelda."

Okay, "A Link to the Past" and "Triforce of the Gods" are both pretty rad.

I thought Majora's Mask sounded dope as hell from day 1. Same with Wind Waker. I'm a sucker for alliteration... usually. Skyward Sword just sounds, idk, like a handheld Zelda subtitle.

I don't recall anything but hype for Twilight Princess.

I want a Zelda game where each dungeon is it own completely different style. Make it about Link and a magic art tome or something.

it wasn't well-received, but i think it was one of the better thought-out titles.

Everyone I knew was on board with the game itself, but many people were miffed or disappointed about the title.

Then again, we might have just been following different message boards at the time?

EDIT: To clarify, I think it's a fine title. I'm just saying it wasn't universally loved. Isn't it also, like, the first Zelda to have the EXACT same title in both English and Japanese? Zelda II comes close, but it was translated ("Link no Bouken"/"Adv. of Link") where "Twilight Princess" is called, in Japan, "Towairaito Purinsesu," a simple transliteration of the English name.

Yeah, there was some backlash for TP's title (I was among the bashers). Still think they should have gone with something else.

Best titles:

-Link to the Past
-Triforce of the Gods
-Oracle of Ages/Seasons
-Phantom Hourglass (shame about you know, the game and all)

I also think Skyward Sword sounds pretty awesome.

Yeah, I guess I was pretty insulated internet-wise in '04. What exactly were people's problems with it? I don't see how it's kiddy at all. "Twilight" has always struck me as a sophisticated term.

Oracle Link is the best Link design, hands down. It's got the old school flavour with a modern take.

i like that it has a dual meaning. the wind waker is kinda the same way, referring to both the main item of the game and the main character.
twilight princess seemingly refers to zelda, and midna even mockingly gives her the title of 'twilight princess,' but in actuality it refers to midna herself.

triforce of the gods sounds pretty hokey. a link to the past was way better even though it should have been ocarina of time's title.

the problem was the 'princess' part. because it made a title with a girl's name in it sound girly.

i was against it at first too, but once i understood the reasoning for it, i thought it was pretty clever. disney and girly kids cartoons from the 80s/90s/00s have kinda taken over the word though.

Oh, come on. "Triforce of the Gods" sounds like the name of an epic Greek/Roman mythology film. With blood and violence! No hokeyness at all.

Maybe just a little.

Yeah, why was LTTP called that? I don't see the story connection.

i think it's referring to the game's standing as a prequel to the first legend of zelda. also, there might have been an effort to work link's name into the title after the first game (adventures of link, a link to the past, link's awakening).

I've never thought much about the titles. Skyward Sword seems fine to me. Ocarina of Time is still my favorite title just because it's such a strange title and yet people still made it the best selling Zelda.

Agreed, wholeheartedly. If an HD Zelda used a design based on Oracle Link, coupled with an overall Pixar-esque look for the world... It would just be magical. Skyward Sword Link is pretty close already, so it would only take de-aging him by a few years and tweaking his hair color + proportions.

That would almost be my forever Zelda right off the bat and I can picture it in my head, got damn. I agree about Skyward Sword's Link too. When I first saw the reveal trailer, I was like "de-age him to around 13-14 years old, and boom perfect". Younger Links just make Zelda work some much better IMO.

Honestly, I think it'd be cool if Zelda went back to Zelda NES or take a Demon Souls approach. It'd be a lot more challenging, and you'd feel like you're actually on an adventure.

I just hope for a massive near-seemless world with an advanced engine that makes the game look and move like CG.

until they can get the "dense" part right, they shouldn't make a move on massive enviroments yet

The Legend of Zelda: The Two Thrones

I don't like the idea of Link being an anti-hero. He needs to be firm, heroic, and morally just. A silent protagonist who has a strong sense of fate and sense of responsibility.

I don't want him to be edgy or having a dark side. Especially if that dark side is a literal thing, such as Dark Link.

But that's just me.

I don't want a "dark" Zelda period in respect to aesthetic or thematics. To me the best thing about Zelda games is the sense of adventure and wonder. Going too "dark" ala God of War or the sequels to Prince of Persia Sands of Time where the Prince went all gritty would be the wrong direction for the Zelda series. To be honest I didn't like some parts of Zelda TP because they got too "dark" and just gave off the wrong vibe. I'm thinking here of the phantom world or whatever it was called where Link was stuck in wolf form, I found this to be boring. Also those phantom bad guys, they just seemed so not-Zelda, kinda took me out of the experience.

I hope Nintendo doesn't try to make Zelda more "mature" like they did with TP seemingly in response to fan outcry. Remember Nintendo, the fans are almost always wrong.

I'm lucky because I love "mature" Zelda games just as much as the ones filled with colorful awe and wonder. I love TP's art style just as much as Wind Waker's. That's why I love Skyward Sword's art style so much. It seems like it will be very colorful, like a painting, while having a hint of darkness/"maturity" in it.

I hate having to put quotation marks around the word "mature," but whatever.

Trust me its a necessary evil to put mature in quotations. There have been many, many threads derailed over arguments about the exact definition of a "mature" game.

Its funny because I like the look of SS because it seems bright and wonderfilled. It reminds me of a saturday morning cartoon.

The problem with Skyward Sword IMO is that it looks washed out and flat.

I honestly don't think this will be the case with the final game. The first E3 trailer was very colorful as were the hd screenshots Nintendo released along with it. The only washed out stuff I've seen comes from the GDC trailer which was off screen. If this is a concern for you ask yourself has a Nintendo first party, major IP ever been "washed out and flat"? In my memory it hasn't happened.

I can't believe people are still concerned with the "washed out" look. The game will obviously look much better than an off-screen video.

I can't believe more people aren't asking for the ALTTP instruction manual style.

It has the best of all styles: looks like a more mature version of Wind Waker, has the classic fantasy feel, etc.

It would look magnificent.

Wait, that picture is not Tera? There were some ridiculous series of Tera screenshots a while back in the multiformat artshots thread, I believe.

I was just joking with that picture I posted. However I didn't feel TP was too mature or adult. I really loved that cutscene with the dark interlopers. I want Zelda to be full of life. It should be pretty colorful and have very light moments along with some dark/serious moments and everything in between.

I think going dark works in places like that cutscene you point to in TP or like the end of OoT with the whole Ganon's tower sequence. That whole part was much more effective than the Ganon stuff in WW. Zelda games are such classic adventure tales, there are always the dark parts but an overall darker aesthetic or something like Prince of Persia going dark or series deciding to take a "grittier" direction are things I hope Nintendo avoids.

I'm looking for that old Twilight Princess HD artwork from a certain thread I saw a few years back. There were like a couple dozen pictures.

Anyone know what I'm talking about ?
