Basic Overview:

Developer: Blizzard Entertainment Team 1 (The RTS Team)
Publisher: Activision Blizzard
Genre: MOBA/ARTS
Release Date: June 2nd, 2015
Platforms: PC/Mac
Price: Free 2 Play
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaxjC8V5j6M
Screenshots: http://us.battle.net/heroes/en/media/

Update Schedule:
-Heroes: One every 3-4 weeks. (New statement as of launch.)
-Battlegrounds: One every ~3 months.
-Balance Patches: One every ~1 month.

Gameplay Modes:
-Play Against AI: Play against five enemy AIs, with a choice of either playing with four AI teammates or four actual players. You play on a randomly picked, unknown Battleground.
-Quick Match: Five players vs five players. You select your hero before searching for a match. Heroes are unique per team. You play on a randomly picked, unknown Battleground.
-Hero League: Five players vs five players. You find out what map you're playing on, and then select heroes in a draft format. All ten heroes must be unique. Unlocked at Level 30.
-Team League: Pre-made five vs five teams only. Otherwise works like Hero League. Unlocked at Level 40.
-Unranked: Five players vs five players. Any combination of team sizes is fine. Uses drafting.
-Brawl: A mode that can contain just about anything. Lasts one week.

Gameplay Basics:
-While similar to a MOBA, containing multiple lanes, infinitely spawning units, and an objective to destroy the enemy base, there are several key differences.
-One of the biggest differences is that each map has an objective that does something like spawning a super unit for your side or making the enemy units/towers not attack for a limited period of time.
-Another is that the four archetypes (Warrior, Assassin, Support, Specialist) are balanced like an MMO (Tank, Damage Dealer, Healer, Utility) instead of regular MOBA archetypes. There is no concepts such as a carry, so don't try to fight three people at once and expect to win.
-Your entire team gains levels at the same rate, so who gets kills or a destroys a building doesn't matter. Denying also doesn't exist.
-There is no gold or items. Instead, every three levels you can select from between two to five talents that can majorly modify your abilities, character, or give you new abilities.
-The matches are built to last approximately 15-25 minutes, which is a fair bit shorter than most MOBAs.
-If you're confused about anything, play through the tutorials, which go into everything in depth and give you gold for completing them. This is especially true for players new to the genre who read what I wrote and it made no sense.
-Blizzard rates the following heroes as easy to use for newcomers: Azmodan, Kael'thas, Li Li, Malfurion, Raynor, Sylvanas, Uther, Valla
-Specific hero guides can be found here: http://www.heroesfire.com/
-If you want to track your stats in more detail, go here: https://www.hotslogs.com/Default

Business Model:
-There is a selection of seven free heroes per week. When you first start, there are only five, though you will quickly unlock the other two slots.
-You earn gold by leveling up and completing daily quests, which can be used to buy heroes and make them continually available. Gold also must be used to unlock master skins, which are a cosmetic effect.
-You can also buy heroes, skins, and stimpacks (account - not game - experience/gold rate increasers) from the shop with real money.
-There is no system akin to LoL runes. You also can't buy anything that helps you during the actual game.
-There are weekly sales where one hero and two skin (or one skin and one mount) are sold for half off the cash price, but the gold price remains the same.

Had some fun Artanis games earlier. I'm not sure he is OP in the traditional sense, but damn is he good in QM and Unranked.

He gives that same thrill for making plays that I used to get from mage Zeratul way back in the day.

It had been so long, I forgot just how much fun brawls could be. They haven't all been terrible recently, but Punisher Arena is so good.

Dice

Pokémon Parentage Conspiracy Theorist
Tried out Zuljin and he has an interesting playstyle but he doesn't connect with me as a character.

I actually really like him from what I've tried yesterday. The sound those axes make when you start to hit hard is pretty satisfying. You really need to be careful where you put your face in but other than that he can be lethal if left alone with a good frontline ahead of him. People underestimate the slow you can get with his w.

Been away for a few weeks but jumped back in yesterday and luckily lined up with the All Heroes Free thing. Ragnaros is cool and fun, will probably pick him up. I like an Assassin with a strong PVE game.

Decided to try out tlv for the first time on QM and got braxis holdout.........fml

vikings make for weird solo laners. They are sometimes used on DShire to hold top shrine, all 3 viking in the lane only splitting when they get the DK. Having 3 bodies allows them to lose 1 but fight back for control with the next one and so on.

How's this a thing? Carried as hell?

Could be anything.

Small amount of games played in HL or in the other two modes leading to a very inaccurate MMR picture. Could be from playing the other two modes first to learn and then jumping into HL with a better understanding. Sometimes it's just a lucky run.

If it holds for 50 or more games then good luck going back to QM or Unranked. It'll be pure hell in Bronze after getting to experience Diamond and Master league.

Rag's pretty strong right now and now that there aren't always two Rags per match you don't always have to pick Lava Wave to counter Lava Wave.

So are you guys excited for the HGC? Are these going to be all live with an audience matches? Where are they playing if so? Where do I look at this kind of info?

I thought it was this weekend and was sadly mistaken.

Nah online matches up until the first big tourney.

This is an online league. They are going to have studio production/casting, though. I doubt we'll ever see a true LAN league like LCS unless HOTS esports really grows a lot in 2017.

Just curious, but has Abathur been changed with any significance in the last 6 months? I quit HotS cold turkey probably around early summer last year and just wondering if he's been modified (nerfed, buffed, etc) at all.

500 matches in QM, 350 HL, 100 Unranked. And he didn't stop playing any mode judging from the match history.

ehhhh not really? He's still basically the same as far as I can remember. They buffed a few of his off-picked talents. He's still exactly as annoying as ever.

I'm excited. Getting a constant flux of high caliber matches with good commentary is a boon for learning stuff. Instead of watching the random youtube video I'll just watch HGC instead. Europe Open division starts tomorrow with Grubby.

Melee assassins are like a bruiser but with less health and more burst right? I might try to learn one or two for when we do unranked or team league. Thrall is still the go to pick I suppose ?

No clue then. At one point on my second account (which was my OG alpha account) I had silver QM cause it was my first time playing a moba, but later diamond HL, and had the opposite on my main account (diamond QM, silver HL) for the same reasons before I brought them all up to diamond.

How'd you run into him?

Would laugh my ass off if after they release valeera blizz goes "hey!! we're releasing a new support!!"
anduin

Although I would really like to see him in the game, there's some interesting stuff they could do with him if his trait allowed him to switch between shadow priest and heals.

W build is good against poke teams. Favor Q against heavy front line meta right now though

He was a teammate in VS AI and since the hots logs uploader opened a tab of the match preview I noticed his unusually high MMR.
