Hideo Kojima IGN interview

How well does UE4 handle open world? Any weak points?

I'm down for a new engine if that's what he needs to meet his vision.

I bet the game is still open world or seamless. I bet there'll be guns. I bet there'll be military porn. I bet it'll be multiplayer. I bet there's a robot. A game can be all of that and still a "smaller" game.

Considering they plan on getting the new game out on the PS4, they're not doing a new engine right now.

I would prefer seamless over open world but I wonder if Kojima can go back to that pond now that he's got a taste of the open world bug.

Naughty Dog's independent. Their engine is very much their own.

The Killzone engine was used by Supermassive, an independent studio making a Sony exclusive, but I don't see why that would be worth using over an engine with far more support available, like UE4.

Why a Konami exec can't just give Kojima and his team a license to use the engine they created is maddening.

Nope

Really? Not trying to be obtuse, here. Then what does he mean by smaller? Was MGSV really THAT big?

Concept art for mechs? So it could be a spiritual successor to ZOE huh? Or maybe just because it has mechs doesn't mean it's going to be focused on mechs per se?

It's all cool with me, just glad he's able to spread his wings outside of Shitnami now.

An open world game....that you play as a card. You can customize your card with gun stickers, and military porn stickers, and you can duel other card(players) with decks of cards. And....and there's robot cards.

I was hoping for some survival horror using stealth elements with limited ammo.

Hope he reins himself in a bit at least. I'd rather have a tight, linear Kojima experience in 3 years than a massive, open world thing in 6 years.

The man was jelly of GTA and AssCreed for years, because of the freedom and expansive environments. No way he's going back to linear. A big world doesn't necessarily mean needing a huge team either. Check TW3.

Is that 100% confirmed? If Konami wants to make money, they should license it to interested parties, as long as they pay. But yeah, Konamis trackrecord has not been all that lately..

See points 1 and 5.

Kojima reiterated once more that he’s still interested in working with his Silent Hills partner Guillermo del Toro, whether it’s a game, film, anime, or something else entirely.

So, there's some hope after all.

As for choosing the publisher, it was obvious it was due to the history with Sony.

But TW3 took forever to develop by an already established studio.

I want my Kojima experience sooner rather than later :(

They have been a Sony studio for well over 10 years.

Yeah, I just had this idea they were in an Insomniac Games like position of choosing to work with Sony, rather than being wholly owned.

Welp, more useless gaming trivia to add to the pile I'm already aware of.

It's possible, but he was really close to Kojima. Basically second in command of the series. It's hard to imagine that he'd stay behind instead of moving on with Kojima and the rest of the group. Especially with how the studio was treated toward the end.

I hope he's in, i mean he was the director of Z.O.E. 2 and we need a new game like that.

Oh, and let's not forget Korekado and Tamari.

Aha totally understandable mistake.

Just kickstart/crowdfund it so we can get this fucker made. Keep Norman Reedus in the loop, too.
You're treading on some mighty thin ice, there.
Ha! Subtle.

Pretty interesting to see how much work they got done while being on "vacation" :p

Kojima and his team are workaholics.

I just hope that his work environment now is a healthy one. That's all that matters, and whatever comes out of it will hopefully be a product of that.

So good to hear from the both of them again.

I sort of expected the new project to be on a smaller scale, they probably want to take it easy after working on something huge like MGSV. Cant wait to see what it is.

I like the sound of their first game being a smaller more focused affair. A game doesn't need to be as massive as MGSV to be amazing. Start as a smallish dedicated team that can pump something stellar out hopefully by around 2018 instead of 2020. Once they're established, then they can direct their attention to expanding into a juggernaut.

I'm so glad he said he'll make games as long as he's alive! Nothing like starting your own empire to give you a second wind...

I hope I never live in time where new Kojima news doesn't make me fanboy.

It's almost better than the actual games.
