Mech game with a small studio? People need to keep their expectations in check for this.

Respawn and Guerrilla are 100+ teams.

Kinda bummed that there wont be any X1 support but I'm happy for Kojima and am excited to see what he comes up with. I'll definitely have a PS4 by the time a game will be released so no problems.

Yeah, you're right, I just checked.

I didn't notice when that stopped being the case. Regardless, they're far from being a Sony Santa Monica.

Not that far. Them, SM, and GG trade lots of intellectual development from my understanding. They are a second party, and possibly the only important difference is that they weren't originally founded by Sony. It's like Retro to Nintendo or formerly what Rare was to Nintendo.

Respawn was like 65 when they shipped Titanfall. Platinum is working on like 4-5 games at a time and they're like 160.

While major games usually do require hundreds of people, don't underestimate the productivity of a tight-knit and focused smaller studio.

Yes please and thank you.

Fucking love this poster/movie.

So I wonder if he keeps the same type of relationship with Sony as David Cage and his studio do. As in, they kept him happy and he keeps his games exclusive.

Well obviously I am aware, Media Molecule is also a productivity workhorse. Nonetheless, Metal Gear games have production values through the roof. These days games of this nature do require big teams. Ready at Dawn got a lot fatter developing the Order. We'll see. I still see 100 as a sort of minimum for a fully fledged, high production values mech game. If it's MP only I can see them shipping something with less staff like Respawn but I am not sure fans will be too welcoming to such pitch. If it weren't for Xbox fans love for shooters and the marketing blitz by EA/MS + launch hype I don't see it releasing to as much fanfare today - "great gameplay" or not.

He looks as though the last few months have taken its toll on his health a bit. Looks a little thin.

Wish you well Kojima and can't wait to see what you come up with.

KojiPro might be a smaller team but some of the muscle will come from Sony. I'm sure Sony will have auxiliary teams helping with tech/QA/marketing that will free KojiPro team to what they really need to do. Create games. Great games.

I couldn't see him going any other way, especially mass all platform right out of the gate. I figured it would have to be Sony or Nintendo, and then you have Sony's willingness to publish wacky and niche games like Heavy Rain. Kojima can probably make any type of game he wants to now.

I bet the game is still open world or seamless. I bet there'll be guns. I bet there'll be military porn. I bet it'll be multiplayer. I bet there's a robot. A game can be all of that and still a "smaller" game.

what certainly isn't small is the imagination of everyone not involved with this project.

I'm at fault ... but goddamn the possibilities ..let us all dream BIG for this SMALL project :)

You should add the summation.

"We know each other, we understand each other, and based on this relationship, I think it's a good point to create a new IP. That's the reason I chose to work with Sony on this project."

Done.

Also added youtube link to interview.

Mech game, confirmed. Alert Kotaku.

I'm not convinced they got the translation right, mechanical design can also mean things like vehicles. Either way he's not necessarily talking about an upcoming project, just the sort of roles he'll be taking on in a more general sense.

I really get a sense of relief hearing his words and what he's saying. It humanized and stripped all the stupid fanboy and negativity from the other threads and brought this whole partnership with Sony to a rational state.

Here it is. He needs comfort and we all knew, with his history working with PlayStation, that this would be the right fit.

It also say this as a means to compliment what type of environment and business Sony run. Yes, they need to be applauded and hearing Kojima speak to Sony as an almost safe haven gives you that much more trust in what is happening.

That makes me happy for Hideo the person most of all and for us gamers to see this new Kojima in a new exciting and clearer focus like he probably had in his early days making games. This is why he's going to make games he has more passion for instead of being strapped down. The type of games he had fire and excitement for and this is exciting for me as a fan

Bless him. Now let's look forward to his next venture on PS4/PC.

I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a long time partnership, similar to insomniac and quamntic games in the past.

Y'all shouldn't worry so much about team size. Sony has a reputation for tossing Santa Monica's tech house at their smaller and indie partners to help them out, a la The Order and No Man's Sky

I think it's going to depend entirely on how successful the game is. I think anything less then being a massive seller will probably result in a longer partnership with Sony.

of course, otherwise they end up like ready at dawn.

I think you misunderstood me. I'm of the mind that if the game ends up being a massive seller, Kojima will probably opt to go with a third-party publisher to reach the maximum audience for the sequel.

But anything less, he's likely to stay with Sony because they obviously don't care about sales as much as a third party publisher.

???????????

That's not how it works...

Duckroll pls.

Kojipro's leveled up.

No, they tried to roll through the final trap in the Konami dungeon and got crushed. All the souls they've built up over the course of the dungeon is still on the bloodstain there, they need to go through it all again to get it back.

I think they should just roll with UE4 and make a cool game. Don't worry about a new engine. UE4 can do lots of cool stuff.
