I just want to point out this movie has a scene where Gipsy Danger hits a kaiju over the head with a supertanker. It literally swings the boat like a baseball bat.

Now I don't know about you, but I think that shit should have its own Oscar category. "Best Film to Use Supertankers as Baseball Bats."

If this prompted studios to start green lighting movies with scenes that fit that category just to get a few Oscars under their belt, I would be okay with that.

Maybe that's my problem. I haven't read the book, so I might not get the full context for the movie.

This is what makes me so excited for the film, especially based on the clips I've seen; it actually lets you see the action! That's the number one thing an action extravaganza should have.

Del Toro's reference point for the presence of the Kaiju is Goya's "The Colossus" -- and you can really see it in some shots, particularly were the Kaiju grabs Gipsy Danger in the water, sweeping its arms and generating massive waves in the process:

They should call them titans instead. Then people would really ask if you have seen it...

The production quality looks truly amazing, I'll give it that, which is surprising since I don't know any of the actors. I hope this movie is a big success cause it might open up a market for live action gundam, ZOE, etc. This will also inspire games.

The thing you have to love about del Toro (aside from being the nicest, sweetest, most generous, self-deprecating, humble and non-judgmental man in Hollywood) is he just has a pure, childlike love of monsters. There's nothing cynical about his approach to movies. He makes them with his heart on his sleeve. :)

I was always going to watch this film day 1. It looks like the most fun cinema experience in quite some time. I truly hope it does well so Del Toro can make a HellBoy 3 followed by Pacific Rim 2. And just maybe, someday, the Mountain of Madness film.

Preach on brother Kojima. I've been on self-imposed media blackout since seeing the first teaser. This is a movie straight out of the dreams of my 10-year-old self running home to watch Robotech after school.

Oh man, the things I'd do for Hellboy III. But it really depends on whether Ron Perlman is up to spending eight hours in the makeup chair and then getting the shit beat repeatedly out of him on set each day, lol.

Take it in stride and you'll have fun. The hot robo-on-kaiju porn should be worth the price of admission.

Actually, it's a decent movie hampered by a focus on special effects and a plot that feels like its crawling up its own rectum. The entire Discovery 1 sequence redeems most of the movie's flaws and is easily one of the best science fiction films ever made on its own, but the rest feels disjointed and bloated. It's actually not focused on special effects, or plot for that matter. Kubrick said he wanted the film to work on the level of music. All those scenes that you thought were prolonged to show off special effects were actually prolonged for musical effect.

Kanye tweeting this earlier this week increased my interest in the film. Wasn't sure of its quality, originally. And Yeezus is only bad if you like dusty Hip-Hop, don't like the progressive sound, or don't like Kanye West, at all. Otherwise, solid 9/10.

It's all marketing, just look at the cast of this movie and you can tell it's going to be one of those movies where you love the CGI scenes but hate everything else.

The only good actor they got was Idris Elba the rest are from Son's of Anarchy and and that annoying guy from It's always Sunny in Philadelphia so don't get your hopes up.

I was already interested in this movie for giving Jax from Sons of Anarchy a big role. Having him and Ron Perlman in the same film is awesome.

It looks like a good summer action movie and that's all I expect. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

Early impressions have been great all around, maybe some call-outs for questionable acting but largely 100% positive. I hope this is a massive success so Guillermo gets enough leverage to fund the R-rated 'At the Mountains of Madness'.

Kubrick didn't make a piece of music, he made a movie. It's difficult to appreciate it as a movie if Kubrick was meaning it as an experience like music, especially since it doesn't let you look elsewhere like music does.

Maybe this is why I like the Discovery 1 part with HAL; it's the only part of the movie that feels like a movie.

What's so hard to believe? 3D can be great when used properly. I can even see the comparisons to an amusement park because both experiences put you high above a city at night and pull you in every direction.
