Hitman 6 launching with seven missions as part "Season One"?

Hey folks. Came across this information while browsing Hitmanforum, and I think this is the first time the amount of content has actually been numbered off. IO has been silent for it, but Amazon, strangely enough, may have outed how many stages launch with the game. It also outs the beta test dates for PS4 being 10/31/15 - 11/2/15 for the first test, and 12/4/15 - 12/6/15 for the second. IO said the beta tests for PC happen a week after the PS4 test, but I guess that would apply to both tests, as there will be two betas. The only odd thing is the release date, but I imagine Amazon is considering the physical release, which will only happen after all of the content they're planning is out.

Remember, the game is $60 and you get everything planned for the game, as they have no plans for any paid DLC. This model of seasons may be how they put out the game in chunks, which I believe Killer Instinct may have done. No idea if they charged for updates, but IO has said countless times they will not.

For the amount of levels, I am surprised. I was originally expecting four missions, but seven gives us a lot of content if it's to by anything the alpha level had. People put hours into that stage and still didn't do everything, so if they keep the volume of the fashion show level, we might be getting a big title even if the stage number is relatively small when compared to previous Hitman games.

Damn, seven is super slim to me. On the one hand you'll get more down the line for free... But it really doesn't encourage early adopters.

Early adopters are incentivised with time-exclusive targets. Many of the levels will be host to targets brought into them that you have only one chance to kill. You will have 48 hours to find them and plan your hit. If they escape, they're gone for good.

PS4 gets six exclusive hits like this, if I recall. They currently have no plans on offering these hits in the physical release.

If it's as good as it looks and all future content is covered by the price tag, I think I'm okay with that. Seven missions will keep me plenty busy.

I can't see the model working for a retail game at that price, gamers are basically having to make an investment for the full product; but now I think about it, 7 levels is quite a few levels worth in terms of Hitman length, maybe the player investment will be worthwhile.

Ah didn't realize that. Probably a good deal of you're a big Hitman fan.

Interesting way on selling a game. Unfortunately I tend to move on from and not revisit games even with big new DLC. Might have to weight a year or so before I the complete package comes out.

Considering the level they demoed at Gamescom is larger than multiple Blood Money levels combined and showed more ways of completing a mission than any Hitman before it, I'd say seven is far from bad.

you have a typo there in the title.

Haven't we known about this for some time though?

No. We never had a level count, nor the reference of this counting as seasons. Most guessed they'd be putting levels out every month or every other month as episodes. They might be launching them in bulk, as apparently you can choose what missions to play when you start the game. Releasing them in chunks would give appeal to choosing what levels you want to tackle first.

Blood Money had 10 full missions with 2 minor ones. The two minor ones were the tutorial and the last mission. So 7 missions at launch might not be as bad as it seems.

Hitman missions can be pretty damn big and very, very replayable

this is probably fine

Showstopper, the level they've been demoing of the game so far, is literally the largest level in the entire franchise.

And the developers consider it the first level of the game. The second is Morocco,
apparently set during a play or a film where you have three targets to kill
.

When's the beta release date?

It's in the OP. 10/31/15 - 11/2/15 for the first test, and 12/4/15 - 12/6/15 for the second.

The time i spent playing the level "A House of Cards" ( casino) in Blood Money was longer than the whole time i played Absolution. If this new game can hit the same points as Blood Money does, than 7 levels is plenty until they release more maps.

This will be my first hit man game so I'd like to see some more gameplay.. there seems to be a good general buzz about the game though.

Is that because it looks genuinely good or there are a lot of fans of the series looking forward to the next installment?

7 is pretty good

Especially if it's one season

Did they say how many season btw?

Because we could be looking at 20+ missions.

Which obviously i'm down with

This game is essentially Blood Money 2. Everything they've taken from Absolution is what works under the Blood Money formula, like special guards who can see through disguises. It's an improvement to Blood Money's laughably easy disguise system.

Can't say I am a fan of only having the option to go all in with the full game, when no one will be able to review or comment on the full game but rather the first season. As such, I would rather they had a reduced price for just that season; I could hear other people opinions on how that season is and then make an informed decision on whether to buy it.

Right now this just seems shady. If there is no other pricing, I'd just wait for the fully featured game to be available

Not a fan of this type of release.

My cynicism says if the game doesn't sell that great they may cheap out when bringing the rest of the content, like making it shorter or not as fully featured as originally planned.

One of those is probably an uninteresting tutorial. Not a good start. I'm definitely waiting until the second DLC drops to see how timely they're putting them out. I won't buy if they are consistently delayed.

This is my most anticipated game by a far. If the seven levels are big sandboxes and follow a Blood Money style, I'll be ecstatic.

I'm a big fan of this series, but I want the physical release. Since they're going only digital at first, I would have to buy the game twice, and have that game on my hard drive all year as well. So as much as I want it, I think I'm going to wait. I would much rather play everything all at once than have to keep going back to the game every couple months. I don't see myself playing the game that way.

Yeah i didn't think about this. What if season 2 has a drop in quality compared to the first season?

It does, but IO wants to actually escape from a model where they spend three years to make a game, put it out, and then vanish another three years to make the next. I originally thought this was PR for this game, to excuse this effort, but apparently this new model is what the company really, honestly wishes to follow. They talk about this new direction in that video.

You will apparently get to choose what mission you want to partake in while playing the game. I have no idea on how they'll be handling a tutorial with that in mind, unless they make it something from a menu, like Contracts did.

Blood Money and Absolution had pretty shit tutorial levels, for they focused on you having to Max Payne it up here and there.

I don't understand why they're releasing the content in waves, why not just finish the game and release it?

Blood Money had 11 missions (not counting the tutorial and final bloodbath) and Contracts had 12

Considering these are supposed to be the largest Hitman levels yet, plus Contracts mode, I think seven missions for the initial launch is a nice of amount content

More than I was expecting

Square-Enix and especially IO don't want this to be a boxed product and move on. IO particularly wants their future games to come out in chunks, so that they can get feedback on their games and deliver content faster.

Consider for a moment IO's last three major releases (Kane & Lynch Dead Men, Dog Days, and Hitman Absolution) have all been hammered from design choices that a more experimental "episodic" model could have fixed. I would imagine they no longer want this for their games.

I'll still probably wait for reviews to see if the missions are good, but right now, that seems like ok value. It's actually cheaper than full price in Ireland so I think I should be fine purchasing it at launch especially with the continuous updates.

Ah, makes sense I suppose. Thanks for answering.

A film set
would make a perfect Hitman level. Imagine all the possibilities

It's not free if you have to pay for it.

I think you know what I meant.

Yeah I went and watched the demo of one of the levels, and if they're all that big, I'm not worried.

If it's seven Blood Money sized missions then that's great, I was worried it would only be three or four. Might actually pick this up close to launch now if reviews are good.

So this is like going the Splatoon route? I'll probably get this day 1 because it looks like an advanced Blood Money, which is my personal favorite and I'd love to support that direction.

Interesting that what's shaping up to be possibly the best game in the series is having possibly the worst reception =P

At least here on GAF.

Hopefully they are successful if the game is indeed that good.

I still don't know if I'll get it though. I'm not really a Hitman player.

So you can pay 60 for 7 at launch. Or wait for a price drop, and by then have probably 14 missions for 30. I don't really get this plan at all.
