Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Be An MMORPG, According to Job Listings

Honestly, a Hogwarts MMO has some serious potential behind it, but why change up a successful formula when the first game sold 35m+ copies?

If they make a 2nd SP title and it bombs, then consider the MMO-route.

They would miss my sale if it was some MMO

But yeah, if something works, as a company, change EVERYTHING up about it and totally destroy it. Smart move lol

If true, I'm out.
gaas 😡
fu middle finger GIF

Dont worry its gonne be canceled

As long as it follows FF14 in that it's really a singe player narrative with multiplayer dungeons/raids/PvP, then I'm all in.
God no, that's probably the most boring ass MMO in existence

The first game wasn't perfect, Hogwarts was too rushed with no real learning stuff, Quidditch was cut, the gear system was Destiny-like trash as well as boring loot and exploration. Story was meh at best and dialogue options might as well just not exist cuz it doesn't matter at all what you do - you'll always get what was planned by devs all along and characters won't do shit in terms of changing their opinion about you etc. Combat got repetitive very fast as well as puzzles.

So here's a bunch of stuff to improve in the sequel, make way better game and what are they doing instead? GTFO with this shit WB if true! Fuckin' brain-dead morons🖕

New job listings for Avalanche Software may hint at Hogwarts Legacy 2 making a major shift from a single-player story-driven experience to a massively multiplayer online role-playing game with a live service model. Hogwarts Legacy was a major critical and commercial success, so it should come as no surprise that parent company Warner Bros. wants to move forward with a sequel. However, fans may be surprised to see the growing evidence that Hogwarts Legacy 2 may be leaping into the world of MMORPGs.

Previous job listings have teased the potential for a Hogwarts Legacy sequel to become a live service game, with career requirements like "knowledge of the Wizarding World" overlapping with the need for experience in games-as-a-service operations. While there has been no official confirmation, repeated job posts by Avalanche have mentioned a new "Online Multiplayer RPG," including brand-new postings that once again share similarities with hiring descriptions that make direct reference to the Wizarding World.

Will Hogwarts Legacy 2 be an MMORPG?

Both a job listing for Designer, Narrative Systems and a listing for Lead Designer, World line up with other career posts that could give players fresh insights into the potential Hogwarts Legacy MMORPG. The Designer, Narrative Systems description mentions a need for the applicant to be able to "create within an established franchise" and have a "deep literacy" in film and literature, plus "a love of fantasy." Despite not directly naming the "established franchise," it can be concluded that this particular position will be working on a new project for an existing IP and not a wholly original game. On the other side of things, the Lead Designer, World requirements include knowledge of "open world gameplay...[and] progression/reward systems," along with experience in "live-service games" for an "Online Multiplayer RPG."

Of particular note for the Designer, Narrative Systems job details are the frequent requests for expertise with "interactive storytelling" and "narrative choice," which just so happen to bear a striking resemblance to an older career post that suggests Hogwarts Legacy 2 may have branching narratives. There is always the possibility that these new postings are unrelated to one another and that they are not even for a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, but many find it unlikely that the same development team would be working on more than one online multiplayer RPG at the same time and that the job posts would just so happen to involve an established fantasy franchise that spans both film and literature.
Interestingly, job listings can often hint at unexpected directions for a studio or company. Just like recent Avalanche postings are sparking discussion about the future of Hogwarts Legacy, companies in completely different industries are also expanding their teams. For example, a new cosmetologist job at PUNIN GROUP in Cyprus highlights how growing international companies are actively looking for specialists as they scale and innovate.
It is key to keep in mind that job listings are never a guarantee of a finalized product, and while speculation of a Hogwarts Legacy sequel game may be exciting, fans should always await an official announcement from the developer before making too many assumptions. That said, the increased hiring by Avalanche and Warner Bros. does indicate something is being worked on, so interested players may want to follow along for any updates on whether Hogwarts Legacy 2 will in fact be an MMORPG or something else entirely.
Feels way too early to panic. Job listings don't automatically mean Hogwarts Legacy 2 will become a full MMORPG - it could just be expanded online or co-op elements. Hopefully they don't lose the strong single-player story that made the first game so successful.

ARR: Possibly the most boring MMO experience ever
Heavensward: Possibly the best Final Fantasy main story in a very long time
Stormblood: Very obviously a transition and stage setter. Making it somewhat clunky after how great Heavensward was
Shadowbringers: Probably the overall best the games ever been. Great balance of amazing story, and fun gameplay
Endwalker: Amazing conclusion to one of the best FF stories ever told
Dawntrail: Unfortunate lull after their 10 year narrative ended

Where did you stop?

I think that'd be smart, IMO

I don't care about the first game though, I got it for my wife but she didn't have the disposition to learn a 3D game. However, I do think there is potential as an evolution.

I finished Hogwarts Legacy this weekend. About 60 hours of total playtime.
I did not 100%. But I did alot.
I got 100% of the field guides. I got enough of the Merlin trials to upgrade the inventory all the way, and a few more trials beyond that, but there were way too many in total that it became tedious and frustrating. I did find and pop all the balloons, that was fun. Killed 100 goblins. and however many spiders they wanted me to zap.
All in all I enjoyed the game.
Short main quest/story but lots of side quests. Lots of stuff I did not bother with, like potions and star charts, I also did not bother outfitting the room of requirement beyond what was required.
The only animal I did not find was the Unicorn, though I had a side quest that involved one I never started it. I should go back and do that one at least.

As for playing more in this world, I don't want an MMO anything. I did my time in WoW jail, MMO's are not for me.
Any new game needs to get rid of the Revelio spell entirely. That got old. I never want to hear that spell again.

Shadowbringers.

It's just not a game for me. I find FF boring ans its nothing more than FF with co op elements.

I know it's probably obvious for FF fans, but as a MMO player first, it's pretty boring.

If you like traditional MMOs, then yeah, I can see how you would find FF14 boring. Especially if FF games are not your thing to begin with.

An MMO/MMO-lite would actually be interesting to me. Hogwarts in any sequel needs to be far more dynamic.

Just... please don't do another generic ass lazy Ubisoft-like with redundant quest structure and incredibly limited chatter dialogue. It was charming for all of 20-30 hours and in hindsight I realize that was all nostalgia fueled.

God I hope not :pie_open_mouth: . They should be reading what players are saying online, and I'm not the only one who wants it to be less Ubisoft open world and more Hogwarts Simulator.

I doubt an MMO.

Probably more so in the co-op department with friends.
See, this I could get behind. I'd actually love to mess around the open world with a friend. On the other hand, they need to build a little more variety and dynamic interactivity into their world or it'll get old twice as fast. Maybe some co-op dungeons or even raids to give players more to do.

How to ruin the original game, make the sequel a GaaS. These executives behind such decisions seem to be holding in their farts far too long, so their heads are filled with GaaS ideas.

Sequel should be taking a student through years 1-7 at Hogwarts. Basically, follow the beats of the books with school life being the primary focus (modern version of Bully, essentially) and the world getting darker/more adult as you advance grades. And keep most of the action in/around Hogwarts instead of random generic Scottish countryside locales.

I just beat HL and enjoyed it, but it felt like 30% Harry Potter and 70% generic open-world action RPG (with completely useless loot). A sequel sorely needs a more linear experience, or at least more constraints per grade.

Well I prefer tight SP games but of all the games that makes sense to be an MMORPG, a Harry Potter game makes most sense. There definitely should be atleast one or an attempt.
Really looking forward to this one. Some of my female friends would kill for this.

Agreed. The entire time playing the first one, I felt it screamed that it would've been even cooler with a buddy along on the journey.

Fucking 'ell...

WTF is wrong with WB Games??

CLEARLY this strategy worked out so well for you already with Suicide Squad...

I don't know how these execs can keep fucking through hundreds of millions of dollars, burning down exceptionally talented studios in the process and yet they get to keep their jobs...

Probably more so in the co-op department with friends.
I'm thinking a lobby system-style MMO. Like PSO or to a lesser extent Guild Wars 1.

Meet up at the Hogwarts School, or Hogsmeade, or Brocburrow, etc. then gather a group and go out on a mission.

That way you can still see and interact with other players but it won't be all over the world.

That would actually be pretty awesome, except for the lobbies. It'll be a sea of neon Fortnite emotes from wall to wall in the common room. I guess Diagon Alley or, as you say, Hogsmeade could work.

I loved GW1 back in the day.

Man, they never learn do they? Hogwarts Legacy has sold almost 40 million copies. I'd really like to meet the muppets that make this decisions and ask them what the fuck they are thinking.
Honestly just do some hybrid where you see other players doing stuff like playing quidditch or doing side activities. No reason for this to be an MMO, the time for that has long passed

I'd play the shit out of such a game.

I really enjoyed Hogwarts Legacy when it came out and even earned the Platinum trophy. My wife played through it too, and even my brother, who rarely games, spent quite a bit of time with it. While I think it would've been fun to play together and help them explore or tackle tough enemies, a full MMO would be a mistake. We don't need another GaaS. Just give us the option to play solo or co-op, and that should be more than enough.

The game was enjoyable but felt oddly lonely. Not because of the lack of co-op, but because missing class had no real consequences, and the absence of companions was noticeable. Harry Potter was as much about Ron and Hermione as it was Harry, so not having a party system felt like something was missing. I think that's what the game needs, a party system and a closer approach to Bully's structure with meaningful class attendance and schedules.

My dream Harry Potter game would balance completing objectives with managing school responsibilities, similar to Majora's Mask's tight schedule system. You'd have a set number of days to accomplish certain tasks, and if you mess up, there are real consequences like detention or failing classes. That's really what the movies are about anyway, juggling the mystery-solving and adventure with actual school life while sneaking around trying to unravel the larger plot.
