Honestly, I think with the push for online, either Nintendo takes the reigns and steers the boat, or jumps in the water and gets cold feet.

Wireless connectivity fine, DS link, fine, GBA 2 link with Rev and DS, fine, but if there is no online component to their next system (Rev) I believe Nintendo is forcing themselves to whore out Metroid and Mario on other systems.

I don't see the hardware sales of the Revolution doing near what the Xenon and PS3 will do, even if Nintendo continues in the handheld market, that's fine, but home consoles, I think they're finished.

I still don't get why this is the next logical step to so many people. Nintendo, regardless of market share, is most likely turning in a far higher profit now than they could as a software only 3rd party. To me, it seems like they're going more into an Apple-style route, a company that, despite all the negativity for so long, still has enough of a market presence to put out its own hardware and do its own thing.

As it is, recent quotes from Reggie, Iwata, etc make it seem as though they have learned from many of the past mistakes. It's far too early to judge a lot of things, no one even knows what Revolution is even really attempting to do yet.

they're profitable enough and have enough money in the bank that they can go on releasing unsuccessful consoles for some time yet. but after psp takes the majority of the handheld market and revolution continues their ten-year slide in the console space, i think nintendo will be at a point where they should go software only, or risk devaluing their brand and franchises.
