If it is like The Hunt it will be awesome.... If it is like For Honor.... For me it will be a big nope!

Games been in development for 18 months by the studio that gave us Eve Valkerie. Coming to PS4, PS5, XBO, SX, and PC in 2021.

Here's what the games creative director wrote...

"This is a PvPvE game that pits two 4-player teams against each other as they attempt the same daring heist in environments populated with enemy AI guards. Without going into spoiler territory (this is a reveal, rather than a deeper dive – more to come soon), we have a wide range of game mechanics and features that can be used to help teammates or hinder rival players.

Stealing a treasure chest from a State stronghold is your main objective, but locating and escaping with it will require teamwork and tactics. Our game world is realistic, with believable interactions and consequences. Treasure chests are heavy and must be carried. Ammo is limited to what you can carry, salvage, or recover from your fallen enemies. Noise attracts attention, both from the AI guards and rival players. Combat can be brutal and deadly, so using stealth can often be the optimal approach.

Using the unique and varied playstyles of each outlaw will be key to your success. Some are specialised in ranged combat, while others are far more deadly up close in a melee brawl. It’s entirely up to you how you configure and combine your skills. This is a heist after all, and no heist would be complete without assembling the gang to discuss the plan before cracking the vault and making good on your getaway!"

Multiplayer-only games usually tend to live or die on their initial impact and player base, because if they don't attract a sufficient and stable player base the chances of a return on long-term support are basically zero, and the publisher immediately pulls the plug to cut on their losses. And the more complicated, unusual and different from a baseline FPS they are, (sadly) the higher the risk to crash and burn with the general public.

I don't even know if in this day and age making a game like this as a paid release is sustainable at all, considering the gazillion f2p and heavily discounted older games available for the same target market. Because the serious risk of the game failing and dying or immediately going f2p 6 months after launch makes people more hesitant to spend money on it at launch, and it all becomes even more of a vicious cycle.

This looks like an interesting concept, but it all depends on how well it was implemented in practice, how much staying power it will have with players and how quickly you will run out of content. Many competent and highly advertised games (see Evolve) still effectively died in less than six months because the largest share of the player base got bored and dropped them.

I'm REALLY curious about this, but I'm super apprehensive. I kind of wanna see how it performs before I bite.

Truer words have been spoken like this before. Someone who actually understands how the current MP and F2P market works. Kudos.

The potential issue I see with the game is the emphasis on PvE type gameplay. If 90 percent of the combat is taking down predictable AI, and it doesn't do that well, it'll be DOA.

Still remember playing Splinter Cell co-op modes, and finding that one player pushes the pace while the other player tags along way too often.

The IGN article referenced teamwork being vital when searching for chests, but hopefully it's vital throughout.

This game looks pretty interesting, will there be any sort of Beta?
Been multiple ones already. Not sure if they'll do another but me and 3 friends got in pretty easily. I was even able to get someone else access simply by asking through the official discord.

Not sure if I'll pick it up on day one. I like the game but it can be brutal if you're up against pre-mades so I'm just going to wait and see if any of my e-friends are grabbing this themselves.

Am I correct in assuming the first 2/3rds of every match is essentially PvE with the last 1/3 being PvP?

Not sure if you can answer.

I guess if you're talking percentagewise sure. That said I've played matches where the PVP is just basically non-stop and people don't even bother with the AI heh.

I thought this would be like a multiplayer heist or assassination game. Is there anything like that? Like a multiplayer Hitman?

This has potential for sure but I worry it will be one of those games where the designers built the game to be played a certain way which ends up becoming the least efficient way to play and instead players just rush through and cheese the AI.

Looks chaotic but ok and a perfect fit for the next game to co-op with some friends I made online in GoT:Legends, I'm kind of worried about the pvp component tho...
It comes in a month and it's cheap, in this rare case I'll be watching reviews.

I was really interested in this until it turned out that crossplay is just for matchmaking and you cant actually play with friends on other platforms. Now I'm on the fence leaning towards a pass.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends unveils Commented Gameplay video offering an in-depth look at the teamplay-oriented medieval heists!

Hood: Outlaws and Legends, the multiplayer PvPvE heist game from Sumo Digital and Focus Home Interactive today releases an in-depth Commented Gameplay video of its unique medieval heists. Matchmaking in opposing teams of four, choose your character based on your preferred playstyle, or what best fits your team’s strategy. Whether your gang prioritizes a stealthy long-range approach, brutal close combat or a combination of both, cooperation will be key for victory. Watch today’s Official Commented Gameplay video for a deeper look into how the different characters play out and combine during critical stages of a match.

Stealth in service of action

Stealth is your best way of gathering enough information about enemy positions, the vault location and map layout to plan and execute your heist. Beware! If any enemy spots you, your character becomes outlined in red, revealing your position to the opposing team and the rest of the guards. Charging in mindlessly can be fatal, unless creating a diversion was your plan all along. Use stealth to move around undetected, distract or assassinate guards, steal keys, retrieve treasures and, most importantly, choose when and where your team enters open combat.

Four Outlaws with unique complementary playstyles

In this Commented Gameplay video, discover how each character can be customized with specific perks to emphasize certain playstyles. For instance, you can equip the Ranger with special melee and burst damage perks to make your way to high ground and cover your team from afar. Although known for his support abilities, you can equip the Mystic with a fast movement perk, slipping past guards to steal keys and silently unlock doors for your team.

Pre-order now for early access and cosmetics!

By pre-ordering today, you’ll get early access to Hood: Outlaws & Legends starting May 7, as well as the Forest Lords cosmetic pack for free. The Forest Lords pack includes a skin for each character and weapon in the game. The Year 1 Edition is also available for pre-order, giving access to Hood and three Battle Passes due to be released post-launch, after the initial free Season.

Pre-order now on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One to get exclusive bonuses and early access to Hood: Outlaws & Legends from May 7 - three days before the official release on May 10.

*Gameplay captured on PC.

Damn that's bad.

Such a bad decision from them... I hope that they change it.

I got it this morning and moved my Xbox to NZ. Played a couple matches, seems pretty solid. Kind of like a mix of Ass Creed and Hunt, with none of those games extreme monetization (yet).

Favorite moment so far: I’m the tank guy fighting two enemy players, the bow guy (Robin I think?) and the guy with the chain weapon. I murder Robin and then me and the other guy are in a back and forth, both low health. We’re sitting there kind of just measuring each other waiting for one to make a move and I notice an NPC Knight walking up behind him. I stall the player long enough for the Knight to stab him through the back to kill him.

My only complaint so far is the map I’ve gotten both times, a castle, seems impossible to navigate.

Watched a few streams of this. I think I'm going with Knockout City this month. It just looks like a game I would've really liked pre Battle Royale. Too many little intricacies to learn for a short, round based, team v team game.

Picked it up yesterday and played via the NZ method. I actually quite like it, but my session were pretty laggy, most likely due to the playerbase being so spread out. It definitely plays like a small budget game, but I think it has the potential to be pretty fun long term.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends reviewed by Travis Northup on Xbox Series X. Also available on Xbox One, PlayStation, and PC.

Hood gives you glimpses of a new and exciting multiplayer concept, but its many, many design flaws keep the game from delivering.

Despite many nods to Hood: Outlaws & Legends’ source material, the densely-packed progression mechanics and fun gameplay are the star of the show here. It stops short of being a total showstopper, but comes far closer than you might expect.

If been playing it quite a bit and it has potential but a lot of things need to be addressed and fast.
Like the matchmaking. I asked for a refund because I'm my first game I was level 1 going up against somebody who was like level 94.

Matchmaking also takes way too dang long. At least people dont drop out every match like rogue company.

Watched a decent amount of footage this past weekend. It seems pretty fun to play, though, you'd def. want a team to play with and if you can't get that group, I'm not sure I'd want to even play. It has some really great ideas, but it's execution could be better. It looks like a great base-line to start from, but it def. looks like it needs some more work and could easily grow into something unique as long as the devs/publisher don't give up on it.
