Horizon franchise (from Guerrilla) has reached 40 Million units sold

It had promise, but they made a game with a completely insufferable main character. I really loved how they channeled their inner Dragon Age: Veilguard at the end of the DLC for Forbidden West and said, "She's gonna be a lesbo whether you want her to be or not." I won't be playing the third game.

Burning shores if you remove the lesbo scene was an amazing dlc. Technical showcase for the ps5.

Maybe in the 3rd game she'll be non binary and get boned by a big metal dildosaur machine.

I only was in because of the hype of the first one. Having played the first Horizon made me really think that I want nothing to do with this franchise ever again.

First game was hyped to hell.

Played maybe 10 hours, and quit.

I really don't know what differentiates this game from the other 50k open world games that have been released to date.

imo one of the worst franchise ( if not THE worse ) Sony has put off in the last 2 gen, i just cant stand this game, fucking Killzone died for this.

it took me one year to beat the first game ( bought on launch day ), played the second one for 2 hours and droped out, game is pretty but soulless

And many others believe one of the best things about the game is the gameplay and the fun you have. So........
For sure. And typically I don't like referencing reviews, because I think game reviewers tend to be not so great at their jobs. But these games did review in the 80s even with the usual bump that I think exclusives tend to get.

There just isn't a lot to the series. Everything is spelled out for you. There isn't much room for creativity or discovery because the gameplay is kind of limited, and points of interest are revealed before you're anywhere near them. I forced myself to finish the first two but I'm not gonna touch the third. Time is definitely better spent elsewhere imo. Like at NeoGAF! 😛

The big draw was how impressive the robot dinosaurs looked when the game was first revealed. They looked incredible. But just like robots, there simply wasn't a lot of meat on those gameplay bones. If some think it's great, then awesome. No problem here, that's simply my take.

Nah, I am good with sales, but your comment that many were thinking Horizon is best Sony game on Steam.

GoW 2018, TLOU 1 and Stellar Blade be like:

Animated GIF
I would probably pick Spider-Man 1 as traversal, combat and vibes were excellent. Then yeah, GoW and TLOU and only then Horizon 1 would follow. I haven't played Stellar Blade yet, to be fair.

Edit: Forgot about Ghost 1 and I liked it more than Horizon as well.

Oh, come on, don't be so insecure, man. A game developer made their character a lesbian, big deal. It doesn't threaten your masculinity, your relationship status, or your precious gaming experience. It's just a fictional person in a story. Take a deep breath, touch some grass, and maybe realize the world doesn't revolve around your discomfort.

Ofcourse you'll play it. FOMO is real among gamers. Especially when it's got those jaw-dropping graphics Guerrilla is famous for and great reviews drop. Same thing happened with Ghost of Yotei.

after playing breath of the wild and the next game. i got into zero down and I am currently playing forbidden west. i have been enjoying them a lot. i am close to finish the latter. it's fucking g great and a technical master piece. i will try burning shores. It's been a great ride. i understand those 40 million

Did you miss the part about the insufferable main character? That wasn't due to the forced lesbian storyline. That's the primary issue I have with the game.

As far as the world not revolving around me, I didn't say anything about how other people should feel about this series. If you love it, good for you. I stated my opinion, nothing more. I also elected to pass on Ghosts of Yotai.

Your condescension isn't going to impact how I feel about a game or series. I don't care to try to convince others that they should or should not like something, and I don't change my opinion when others try to convince me that I should or should not like something. Don't get so butthurt that someone didn't like something that you liked.

The gameplay was refreshing to me, and placed a little more emphasis on how you approach the fight tactically rather than just relying on reflexes. Oddly for a console franchise, the gameplay feels like it was designed with a mouse in mind, with how you can precisely dissect the machines. That's how I played them (mouse and keyboard), which I rarely do for console games.

For the next game I'd like the world to be less static with regards the machines standing in their assigned location forever, but it would be difficult to do with how some of them work.

Horizon really needed that deep RPG design for that world. It would've gone toe-to-toe with the elder scrolls series on top of having an incredible combat loop.

I really loved the Setting. Human against technically advanced Dinosaurs are really Cool.

But then they ruined it with their lesbian Propaganda!!!

All Sony Characters are ether Lesbian or Gay :D

Why can't these Game Designers not stop talk about the sexuality of the Characters?

I like the Horizon games enough, but it's weird seeing anyone defend Aloy as a good protag.

She's a boring void of personality, where the only thing interesting about her for 2 games is uncovering the past around her creation, and it's usually answered by finding some macguffins.

The world/setup of Horizon is neat, the games are lush graphics showpieces, the gameplay is fun enough when you're fighting robo-dinos with traps...but the characters are not even in the same stratosphere of execution.

She was never great but I thought she was decent in the first one. I really disliked her in the second one.

I think besides the characterisation she just wouldn't shut up while walking around.

What I played of that (multiple hours) I found very boring and with too many additional things added to the combat. It felt massive and bloated.

I just stopped playing and never went back.

I wish they changed her a little in the 2nd game. She's stoic as a personality for a reason. The game's story kinda explains it. But they should have added more personality to her in the 2nd game. I haven't played Burning Shores yet though.

I enjoyed both of them, they are good but not great. If they actually had good characters and better overall story and writing they've be way better though.
To me they are basically Ubislop comfort food but with a really cool setting and much better combat.

Fair enough, if the main character rubbed you the wrong way, that's your opinion. And not every story or character resonates with everyone.
And no, I didn't miss that part. But instead of reflecting on why you couldn't accept or relate to the character, you immediately shifted the focus to the game's "wokeness," referencing another title known for that label and bringing up the lesbian storyline. So your main emphasis seems to be on calling the game woke.

Someone who played both original games and their DLCs but refuses to play the conclusion doesn't exactly strike me as having solid reasoning.
You jump straight to assumptions. I enjoy the Horizon games, but nothing more than that. My criticism is aimed more at people who see "woke" everywhere and, because of that, ignore what actually matters: the gameplay, graphics, sound design, and overall craft of the game itself.

I mean the story and world setting alone differentiate it. What's the other open world game with dinosaurs taking over the world because of AI?

I think she's better in the first one because you're getting her direct origin story, attached the premise of making this entire weird world filled with humans going tribal again next to machines.

The 2nd game loses the novelty of the premise, so they have to actually fill the world with interesting events/people to contextualize it, and make it feel lived in. I think they tried by overstuffing the game with things, but in that Ubisoft way where not much of it is compelling on its own. Definitely agree there was more yapping, the internal monologue these characters do reacting to things could be toned down.

I am sure that had nothing to do with it being bundled with a Playstation console... Series sucks.
You are acting as if TLOU, Uncharted, Gran Turismo, Spider-Man and so on wouldn't be bundled. They have been too, and didn't sell that. Plus unlike Horizon they didn't include the first big sequel super early in PS+.

How many of those were given away for free? I know I have the license to a free copy.
None. It's units sold, which means sold standalone or in a bundle with the console. Not units downloaded via PS+ or given away because these aren't units sold.

Reason for this was memory issue on PS4.

Maybe the PS5 super sexy SSD can solve that for future games.

Who actually likes that series? It's like all the worst parts of a Ubisoft game.
Horizon sucks dude.
The combat and enemy design is some of the best and most unique in the industry.

They overcomplicated the combat in forbidden west though.

Unfortunately they listened to idiots crying about the melee system in Zero Dawn. They spread themselves too thin trying make a game that you can-

"play how you want"

They should have simplified the melee and coached/forced players to use there incredible 3rd person shooting mechanics.

You can't have best in class melee and shooting mechanics in the same game.

The combat is serviceable. Let's not go crazy. The melee is downright awful, so the game ends up just being using your Ropecsster to tie down big machines and then obliterate them with your Blast Sling.

One of the best in the business? Come on lol.

it still sold well.

Blatant bigot whining. Omg gay looking character comes out, I am so angry that someone wrote this and put this in something that I will protest like a whiny cunt. Males that don't mature past 12 are sad to watch.

Since a large portion of the audience is superficial in tastes, the Horizon saga is a perfect product for them. It's the paradigm of beautiful and shallow.

- Its main character: after +80 hours of playtime of the first Horizon, I wouldn't be able to tell any personal traits in Aloy other than her ethnic or sexual identity. She literally has no personality or aspirations. It's a character that goes from point A to point B because reasons.

- Combat and other mechanics: this is the part that frustrates me the most. There are so many cool things you could do with Aloy's arsenal and dinobots whose armors and cannons can be removed. Everything's so basic and the melee combat is retarded. The hacking happens automatically, when you could have something like in Pragmata, for each dinobot a differnt hacking system. The same applies to climbing. It could be very challenging or involving some skills but nah, just follow the yellow paint. Braindead stuff.

- Exploration: You have a beautiful apocalyptic world supposedly full of secrets and your only rewards are some data logs scattered around. Since the traversal is so limited in options there's nothing to explore or rewards to do so. If there are snowy mountains, make the character vulnerable to cold temperature so she has to kill a certain type of dinobots to get a warm plate for the armor, for example. There's zero thought in the world exploration, just empty beautiful vistas.

Horizon could be truly great if their devs were invested in making a fun videogame instead of pretending to be a woke version of Kojima with a nonsensical story.

Read better.

I'm allowed to not like forced romances. Baldurs Gate 3 didn't force my character to be gay and I didn't bitch about that game even though multiple characters in the game were gay. Take a break from the internet for a bit while you tend to your hurt and gaping butthole.

No, it's one of the best in the business. The melee needs work but the fact people complain about it so much says more about them than the game.

The game is so obviously a 3rd Person shooter, it's melee doesn't need to be deep, just functional. It's on the same level as other 3rd person shooters/first person shooters, like uncharted, resident evil and doom. Although admittedly it is definitely more janky than those games.

The depth in its shooting mechanics is categorically insane. The amount of options you have and the complexity of the enemies is unmatched.

Sure you can abuse certain mechanics but name me a game where you can't? Frankly you can go about taking down the big machines far more efficiently than you described using all the game mechanics.

What games do you consider best in class? (3rd person or 1st person shooters). I'm getting a huge feeling I'm gonna get a bunch of overrated Japanese slop fired my way!

Thanks, Hermen

I enjoyed both games tremendously, more than any open-world game on PS5. I want a part 3, and then a new protagonist with a possible new setting. The last game that gave me the same feeling of satisfaction were Red Dead Redemption and Elden Ring.

Melee is trash, but there's a good amount of complexity to the combat I'd say. You might not have to engage with it, but it's there if you want to.

I own both games, after 10 hours of the first one I got so bored and dropped it. Graphics are amazing though.

Graphics are a 10, but the gameplay for me was very average and generic.
