How Are People You Know In Real Life Responding To Xbox One?

My small group of friends who game were already on PS3, but my 360 only friend wanted to make the switch mostly because of PS3's lineup towards the end of this generation. The lower entry point and positive buzz around PS4 will be a big factor I think at launch and into the first year, but as usual, games will still do the talking.

As much as MS has fumbled, it will likely only have an impact for a brief period, whatever system has the more popular exclusives early on will likely lead in that territory.

Everyone I know who's a gaming enthusiast thinks it's a bag of hurt, except a Halo fangirl I know, who's in denial.

you friends who aren't really into gaming don't know anything, and probably won't know anything until they start seeing ads on TV or in billboards.

Every single person i know IRL who plays games has said its absolute trash and they will avoid it all costs. My brother who has not played a game since SF2 in the arcades as kids, asked me if i heard about the BS Xbox policys blocking used games and forced online. The mainstream isnt left out in the cold anymore, social networks are real time, news travels INSANELY fast and word is getting out.

Yup, my sister was surprisingly clued up on all the issues. I had a little chat with her and her boyfriend while at their house and she seemed to know all about the various issues. She mentioned hearing about them from her kids (she teaches).

Her boyfriend had no idea, and said there and then that they'd probably end up getting a PS4. Apparently it'll be his first Sony console since the PS1.

My wife has never cared for the Xbox brand so she laughed and laughed. My brother-in-law and some of his friends are big on the 360 and they're basically confused and disappointed.

Not well. I have one friend that wants one but he's been incredibly defensive and forgiving about every shoddy move MS has ever made, for example doesn't care at all to pay for Live, doesn't mind tons of ads, doesn't have a problem with Kinect, etc.

The Xbox has gone down like a lead balloon with people I know, My kids and their friends have been bemused since the original launch and the comedy of errors that followed have turned them off it completely.

My girlfriend and a few of my friends were diehard Xbox fans. Now they want xbox to die hard. All grabbing Ps4s at launch.

A lot of friends replied on my topics what Xbox One does on facebook. Most of them will go PS4 or PC. Consumer rights here in europe are high on the agenda. And also at work a bunch of collague's are not going to buy the Xbone for sure when i told what was happening.

Most people i know think it's dog shit and most are getting ps4s. The few among my friends who have ps3s rather than 360s are thinking of going pc.

One friend of mine on Facebook said he was an Xbox guy and would be continuing the tradition. Shortly thereafter, I explained to him the whole used games situation / digital only strategy / and DRM policies they had in place and he quickly, though begrudgingly became a soon to be Playstation 4 owner.

Well both systems will require a fee for online now so I can understand someone not caring at all to pay for Live.

Most of my friends were PS3 only this gen and are sticking with the PS4. I know one guy that only has a 360 and sent me a message immediately after microsoft's press conference that he will definately get the xbone, even though he thinks its policies are ridiculous. After seeing the Sony conference he is still going to stick with Xbox because he can't leave his gamerscore and Halo behind. He will consider getting a PS4 later on if he has the money though.

This is so bad for Microsoft... The crazy thing about all of this is I have a feeling that 80% of people converting from Xbox to Playastation still have no clue about the 1st party exclusives that they'll be getting over the years... I honestly think if the ps3 and Xbox 360 launched at the exact same time, the ps3 would not only be doing better off, but people would have been more aware of the good exclusives instead of "ps3 has no games"

If ms are watching this they must be gutted.

Well, they would be if the realised how it isn't just a few geeks but that the public as a whole have turned their back on the Xbox brand.

One friend which has a 360 is not happy about it and even considering getting rid of his 360 and going for ps4 next gen.

Other friend who is a PS3 user is happy with the situation and will gladly continue his business with Sony with the PS4.

Everyone I know is buying X1. Nothing has changed from 360 years. Alot of people care more about the media features and MS exclusives. They have stated the hate on facebook is stupid. I don't use facebook so no clue.

Everyone I talked to was positive. Some where still confused about trading in games at authorized retailers, but most of them buy new games and play online. Not that big of a stretch I guess.

Nearly everyone I know is getting both, but is just deciding which to get first. Many are leaning Xbox due to the more appealing launch window games.

Seems to be sticking pretty much the same as this gen - people who had a 360 first are getting the One first. People who had a PS3 first are getting the PS4 first.

germany here.

guys who are into gaming and now the crazy stuff they have been doing say ps4 will be bought.

one guy says "i dont care i was on xbox, 360 and i will get the one" he sees the flaws but stays true to the X. my parents heard about the stuff xbox one is going to do and could not believe it.
also my brother and even my brothers girlfriend knew about it and were like "gtfo xbox one". both of them are not into gaming that much. fathers going to buy a ps4, too.

if this topic comes up i tell people what ms said and none of them said "ill buy it anyway." most people thought i was joking. and were asking "why? why are they doing this?" i wish i could answer to that.
at a club on friday there were some pretty nice gamerladys because i overheard one of them say: "the xbone sucked so hard on the conference and halo is a good point but i will go with the ps4."

Prior to E3 it was complete indifference. Since E3, I've actually been surprised by the awareness of the policy controversies. Anecdotally, that event was a PR disaster for MS.

Everyone of my "gamer" friends thinks its a shitty deal Microsoft is trying to sell us but have one or two games they might buy one for.

What I think has been fascinating is non games who are hearing second or third hand info and just how off base it is. I was doing a radio interview last tue and once we were off the air the two host who don't play video games, but one of them owns a Xbox 360 for his son, started asking me about the Xbone and thought it was way worse then it is. I tried to set them straight but then stopped since that's Microsofts job and not mine, and because I hate being that nerd who says things like "we'll actully the Xbox one...."

So far I've managed to convince five 360 owners to abandon ship for PS4. These were all friends who only really play sports games, racers, CoD and GTA so hadn't really been caught up in the Xbone shit storm.

Two other more serious gamer friends have also decided on the PS4, one of whom was quite anti-PS3.

I've literally not heard one person say they're going for Xbone, nor say anything positive at all about it. I'm happy that people aren't falling for Microsoft's bullshit.

Of the six or seven that I've talked to, everybody mocked the Xbox One. I'd say two or three of them are pretty deep into video games. All of them say they are going with PS4.

The ones who have been die hard Xbox fans have all switched their tunes , from die hard Halo fans to typical ones who just were used to it and stuck with it...except one, and his sound bytes were "Lumaroom looks awesome, it is like my tv but bigger", " games come with books?"
When I asked about being able to buy used games or sell his games he has never even thought of anything other than Gamestop, never worried about case or anything.
His Ps3 opinions were based on hear say from the type of rumors that went around frm Xbox fans during launch.

You know what no one anywhere is hearing about? A PS3 owner switching to Xbox.

Given that the river is flowing in only one direction, Sony should easily win worldwide marketshare, and maybe even US for the first year. After that, who knows, as MS will likely drop the price and backpedal hard.

The opinion is almost completely one-sided, most in my real life circles gravitate towards PS4 and WiiU.

In the dev team I'm in, we're not even going to bother trying to get our game on the X1. In my music circles, my friends were on Xbox since the first one came out, one of them especially shocked at the direction Microsoft is heading in. He plans to get a PS4 this or next year.

I do know two or three peeps who still want to get an Xbone, they are the only MS loyalists in my circles who don't plan on converting once next-gen hits.

Was at a party/gathering with a bunch of fire fighters/EMTs last Thursday night. Only 1 of them had heard about it, but once I told them it had a 24-hour check-in, they all got pretty pissed since a lot of fire stations here don't have internet and these guys work 4-5 day straight shifts. Most of them are hardcore CoD/BF3 fans, and they play a lot of local coop at the stations. By the time we were done talking about it, they were all pretty much sold on a PS4 future.

I work at a local gaming store (exists since 1990) and the customers are mainly hardcore gamers. Almost every single customer including the two other employees (which are big Xbox 360 fans) will get a PS4 and they all are starting a shitstorm of conversation about the Xbone while shopping/selling like all the time. Pre-orders: PS4: 20 (max. day 1), Xbone: 0

which is great, but then they face lower marketshare, potentially worse 3rd party multiplatform games - so even if they turn off all the DRM and match the price they still have a weaker offering.

If they really are serious about keeping gamers on board, they need to invest massively in first party titles - not just for the launch year or two years, but for the entire generation. Keep giving people reasons to buy an Xbox.

Coming from South Africa, a pretty big country with a ton of gamers and shoddy, expensive internet, most people are switching their 360's for a PS4 when the time comes. Not to mention that we're not getting the X1 on launch. So yeah...

Not very good. I'll ask and tag some people who I know are huge Xbox fans, I'm pretty curious.

Guys at work are running with the "don't run second hand games" so they are thinking about getting a ps4 instead.

I mean, with the confusing policies of MS, who couldn't expect that? Serves MS right.

I use GAF and various other forms for news insight etc for years and usually relay to them any upcoming games or console info but yestdsy I went back and forth on twitter with some of the most staunch Xbox fanboys all FIFA! COD gamers and they are unsure of the One and suggests the PS4. I've paid for both but did say if I heads choice it would be the PS4 this gen all the way,

They purely know the bad policies in place from word of mouth in the UK. Usually they don't know anything other than when the next COD is gonna be released. They have been a PR disaster MS. Know one knows what policies are in place or how they will work.
Sony were and are mo prepared and its ally showing big time.

All but one of my friends hate it. 2 of them were hardcore 360 fans and are now siwtching to ps4.

The one that likes it gets personally offended when no one agrees with him about how great the "features" are. He makes stupid points that do not even make sense when arguing about it.

I heard some dudebros talking about it and defending the used games policy like 'oh well I don't care about it I never lend games to my friends anyway' and how 'sony sucked' without giving any reason at all, legit or otherwise.
It gave me physical pain just to be near them :(

My brother who only plays Gears and Halo isn't going to buy Xbox One. He only knows what I've told him about it.

My friend (who plays with my brother all the time) is a big Halo fan and says he's going to buy Xbox One when the next Halo comes out even though he doesn't like the online requirement and all the other anti-consumer thing MS is forcing on people.

My co-worker is in denial. He said all that stuff was rumored. Then when it was confirmed he ignored it. I don't bother telling him any more because its no use. He seems to be an Xbox fanboy despite only playing games like COD and sports titles. He already pre-ordered Xbox One and Ryse.

There are 5 IRL friends that are hard-core gamers (myself included)

1 is getting a PS4 an is talking massive noise about the Xbox One. That's not super surprising. He hasn't owned a non-Sony console since the OG playstation and has fanboy tendencies. I typically avoid talking to him about games in real life as a result. Listening to someone speak in real life as though you are on a forum is a bit off-putting coming from an adult.

1 is getting the Xbox One for sure, but his brother works in Microsofts Xbox division. So his is kind of a given.

2 others are probably going to get an Xbox One, just probably not at launch. One has a kid on the way and the other is supposed to be getting papers published to get his tenureship finished. One of these will likely wind up with a PS4 at some point down the line as well since he normally winds up with all systems. One is stoked about KI, the other likes the Skype integration.

I'm also getting an Xbox One. I'm mildly annoyed about the used game thing, but don't really care about the 24 hour check in. I also like the non-game stuff and the Xbox One looks to have plenty of games to entertain me.

We are all 30 somethings that play semi-regularly (I probably play the least of all of them.

Yeah, I agree.

Worldwide, I can't see how Sony loses this time.
