How long do you plan on staying a gamer?

Thread title says it all. I think I'm gonna grow out of them once this generation dies. Unless they can convince me they'll still come out with some good and interesting original titles I'll probably stop there.

I'm almost 33, so I'd say probably my whole life. I can definitely see myself being less interested in them when I get older, but I can't see myself not playing them at all.

As long as Mario or Sonic is being made, there is no reason to stop. They both bring a smile to my face most of the time.

Does anyone plan on giving up gaming for good? Sure you might not play games for an extended period of time during parts of your life, but why should gaming be treated differently from other entertainment mediums? When do you plan on giving up movies, reading for entertainment, music, television, etc... ?

If I lose my interest in gaming, I will acknowledge that I never knew myself and probably try to develop a new persona, change my name and all that jazz. I will then realize I don't know that self, once again becoming another person. At this point, I will realize I am a master of disguise, becoming in the process the "man with a thousand face". But who is the real me? Even I won't be able to figure that out.

Not losing interest this lifetime

Hopefully till I die or somehow I get Alzheimer's or any other disease that fucks me over

Would love to see myself start up a game and the Alzheimer kick in

Screen Flashing "Press Start", press start, alzy kicks in, stare @ screen, game resets, Screen Flashing "Press Start" repeat x 100

I never really understood this question. Its kind of like, "how long do you think you'll still be watching movies" for me.

As long as I have the time, and there are still good games to play, I'll still be playing. That's the plan.

Given the modern definition I turned my card in long ago. I just want to play games and talk about them. But the technology shit I'm done with. Hardware says absolutely nothing about the software that runs on it. I guess I'm casual now.

I guess it depends on the context. To be someone who keeps up with newer stuff, it's a far more expensive endeavor. I could see myself at some point no longer buying new consoles for one reason or another, but that wouldn't mean I no longer play any games I've already bought and still have the hardware necessary to play.

Not much longer.

This generation is fucking shit.

Lots of uninspired shit on the shelves.

Capcom selling out to the polygon whores.

Wayyyyyy too much follow the leader in terms of game design. We're still copying Resident Evil, Halo, GTA, and God of War for too many games.

I'm really counting on this being my exit point. At least for TV consoles. Portables are getting many more games that are relevant to my tastes; and I believe that's due to hardware limitations and budgets for portable games.

They have to make a good game. Not some piece of shit masquerading as a Michael Bay fuckfest. :|

Having said that, I'll still keep my Saturn and PS2; but everything else can eat a dick.

Might as well ask how long someone will be a book reader, or a tv watcher, or a computer user, or a letter writer, or a sports enthusiast. Until they get bored of any of them I'd imagine. Games aren't some special category that people should grow out of or suddenly stop at some point in their lives any more than those other things.

Great thread! :lol

Yeah seriously, does anyone really set a firm date or something when they plan to "quit" gaming? You might drift in and out of gaming due to various stages of life, but to actually plan to quit sounds weird to me.
