How tolerant are you of fatness?

Looks good to me. Perhaps it's a flattering photograph.

By what objective metric?

in regards to what you find attractive, she may not be over the weight you find acceptable.

to me, she is.

objectively, her body-fat % is probably outside of the healthy range. she may be relatively healthy, but she would be healthier if skinnier.

I'm not concerned with others weight, eating habits, body types, and medical conditions unless it's to the point where they need help and I'll assist or give advice. Insulting or mocking others for it is rude and inconsiderate.

People are more tolerant of fatness than they are of thinness despite the former being more unhealthy, go figure.

Grew up and am still a thin person.

I love that girl.

I'd say she's in the thick category.

In all honesty: not that tolerant. I'm judgemental about fat. Nog that i really care if people are fat but I often think: how the hell do you get that fat? And why would you choose to carry soo much extra weight in fat.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not talking about Christina Hendricks' luscious curves, i'm talking obese fat.
A big influence on obesity is the fucked up food industry. There really should be a big change in what companies are allowed to put in products.

In the end, everybody should be allowed to get as fat as he or she wants. But i can't imagine why anyone would choose to be obese.

A large amount of fat bothers me, even if it's in the "right" places, it looks lumpy and gross. Anything over 20% on that scale is unattractive to me.

I'm not tolerant of skinny fat people. I dislike dishonesty. at least normal fat people have the decency to their fatness, skinny fat people though? well, they are probably some of the worst people on the planet.

And the criticism comes from pimply overweight guys stuck in their parents' basement.

I'm in good shape and have my own place (can't help the pimples D:), I just don't like seeing people throw away their health. A healthy body is a beautiful thing and it's not worth throwing away for fucking McDonalds of all things.

I don't think I've ever slept with a girl who had less bodyfat % than I do now. At this point I'm demanding enough on myself in a way that I don't project on my partners that I probably never will. I'm starting to really like how I look now that I'm leaner, but with where the female body stores fat, if I met a girl who was the same bf as me, she would likely be as skinny as a rail, which I wouldn't find attractive.

I don't think that "hating" fat people is cool - hate in general is not cool. Not all people are fat just because they eat too much, but some of them are because they have serious deseases. You never know why a person looks like he/she looks.

But those who can do something about it should at least consider loosing weight since it's just healthier for your body and maybe even for your soul if such thing exists. Like I said in the "How was 2012"-thread, I lost about 30kg this year and feel more comfortable than before. But that still does not give me the right to judge about people with a lot of meat on their bones. Everybody has their own body, everybody should be able to determine what's best for him/her.
If you are happy about yourself, the better! But never forget that you can get happier if you wanted to!

Now, women. In general they just have more body fat than men and I think a woman's bodyweight falls in the same kind of categories that the rest of her look do. It's just the overall package that really matters and bodyweight is part of it just like the color of hair etc.. There are woman with more weight that look beautiful to me just like Hendricks and Vergara because the overall package is just pretty great. Then there are more skinny girls who can look pretty sexy.

I personally never judge a woman only on her weight, never only on her skin/hair color or whatever: it's the overall package.

I don't think we're talking about hate here though.
At least.. I hope not

How could you ever guess the body fat percentage of a girl? What ridiculous to see things that way.

Hendricks is overweight to me. Not fat.

It's a personal barometer I have. Overweight girls can still be hot, which Hendricks is. Fat girls? Nah.

I don't know what kind of people you guys hang around to consider Christina Hendricks not fat. She is fat by average standards.

If you're fat but can't help it for whatever reason. No judgement from me.
If you're fat, but trying to change, awesome hope you succeed. Respect that a lot.
If you're fat because you stuff nothing but fat into your body and refuse to do even the basic of excercise, wel you're pretty low on my respect meter. And if you pass those habits down to your children, i would even call you an awfull shitty person,

I don't think of fat people as attractive, but I hace no problem with them, although I do think very, very fat people should at least try to lose weigh.

And Hendricks isn't fat, she's overweight, and lawdalmighty I'd sink my head there.

I'd say Hendricks is probably overweight but damn she carries it well. I'm sure there are plenty of women her height and weight that don't.

In terms of tolerance, for a partner my tolerance is definitely low. I'm the right sort of weight for my height, and I'd want a guy who was similar. No need to be super muscley (actually I think that would make me feel insecure) but overweight is a no-no. I dated someone who was and honestly, that was part of the reason it didn't last long (oh god that makes me sound like a terrible person).

For the general population, I don't really care if people are a bit overweight but when it gets to being obese and morbidly obese, it kinda makes me sick. I honestly don't understand how you could let yourself get like that. But hey, if it makes you happy who am I to judge.

Id love to see the results of a survey on the country people live in and whether or not they think Hendricks is fat.

/digonAmerica

Hendricks is fat. I bet I could grab 2 handfulls of rolls.

I'm not tolerant of fat people in the following scenarios:

- They cry about being fat but keep eating everything they see except vegtables
- Cry about being fat, but not even trying to go to the gym or whatever.
- They are sweating all over the place on public transportation
- They cry when there aren't getting any special treatment
- They take up more than 1 seat
- They cry because somebody tells them the truth about their weight / habbits.

I see the lack of empathy for fat folks similarly to that pull yourself up by the bootstraps crap republicans use. Some families are nutritionally ignorant and kids have grown up in that environment. It doesn't help there is processed and fast food everywhere nowadays, especially in poorer neighborhoods. It is harder to find healthier food options even in the supermarket in poorer areas (much less variety).

This internet thing is still young, all this how to eat and live right knowledge wasn't out there 30yrs ago. I got schooled on nutrition 9yrs ago because of an internet discussion board. Even with how easy this life saving info can be spread, fast food has doubled down like a motherfucka.

And a sidenote, abused kids are more likely to be fat than ones that haven't been abused. You don't even know someone's story and you're judging them based on weight. Not everyone was born with a gym membership and eating eating walnut salads for dessert. Do something productive and try to help your fat friends and family members live a healthier lifestyle.

none of my business except if they're family, and even then it's just subtle things because I'm concerned for their health (mainly my mother)

Considering I run a lot and go to the gym often I am probably not very tolerant of fatness, on myself and on others.

I think GAF members often seems to be particular harsh on the obese, whereas we are often particularly lenient on the poor, or those who are poorly educated, which are also both conditions which are partially self inflicted and which can similarly be remedied just as obesity can.

Hendricks is chubby. Fat, whatever you want to call it. I'd prefer that to skinny enough to see ribs. Ideal though is "fit"

I mostly get upset at people who are heavy enough to have health issues because of it. Knee pain, joint aches, diabetes, headache, heart disease, depression... it frustrates me.

However I am sympathetic to people who legitimately try hard to lose weight and fail. There's a lot of bad info out there that makes it more difficult than I think it needs to be. There's also no reason to be cruel about it.

If "your" bad at analogies...

I agree. What we're looking for are things that are partially genetic but also significantly amenable to life choices and willpower.

Things like education, alcohol intake / alcoholism, job performance, intelligence, financial responsibility, and good parenting.

All of those are in significant part caused by forces outside a person's control, but also in significant part by things which are. Obesity seems to get significantly fiercer criticism than any of these amongst many GAF members, even though at least a few of these failings (good parenting, financial responsibility, education) are almost certainly more important. I suspect the reason for this is not logical: I suspect, instead, it's simply a consequence of physical repulsion. Even if we would mostly agree that stupidity is much worse than obesity, stupidity is not viscerally repulsive to many people in the way that ugly, fat people are.
