I didn't like launch DIablo 3. Should I buy the Ultimate Evil Edition?

Just adding my noise to the wave of opinion: Yes, absolutely.

I hated launch D3 too. Loved D3 on PS4. Improved in many many ways. It's still no D2 but I ended up actually getting platinum on it, which surprised even me. Highly recommended!

Wait wut. Console D3 already has season 2 loot??

Yup, I have the Wizard ring Halo of Arlyse (Your Ice Armor now provides 50-60% Melee Damage Reduction and automatically casts Frost Nova whenever you take 10% of your Life in damage). I haven't used it yet, since I need to find a good build for it. Maybe Explosive Blast with Wand of Woh. And I got the Monk bracers Gungdo Gear (Exploding Palm's on-death explosion applies Exploding Palm) as well.

Here's a list of the seasonal items:

Season1: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/15487814/patch-210-now-live-8-26-2014#seasonalitems

I put thousands of hours into Diablo 2 and I bought Diablo 3 for PC at launch and thought it was utter garbage. Couldn't even play it past Nightmare.

Recently got ultimate evil edition on PS4 and it is like an entirely new game. It doesn't hit the highs of Diablo 2 but it's certainly now a worthy successor. Also super refreshing actually having good items drop and more interesting end game content after having played the turd that is Destiny right before it. D3:UEE was one of my favourite games of last year.

For what it's worth, I beat Act 1 on PC at launch (vanilla) and found it to be boring.

Played through the entire Ultimate Evil Edition on PS4 in like a week, including Reaper of Souls. It was my GOTY for 2014.

This is the kind of turnaround I experienced, as well. Had an awesome time with RoS!

So what's improved in ultimate evil/reaper of souls? Does it make the base game more playable?

What ISN'T improved?

Level 60 cap (new skills! more gems! better items!)

Loot drops are more related to your character (e.g. Barbs get more STR items, Wizards get more INT ones)

Speed boost for breaking stuff (fuck barrels! and tables! and gravestones!)

Different difficulties selectable from the start (you don't have to go through the story THREE BLOODY TIMES like in the original)

Adventure Mode (endless amount of enemies! higher chance at getting legendaries on the rifts!)

XP bonus for killing multiple enemies in a row

Enchantress, with the ability to change the look of your gear AND one of it's propieties (don't like vitality? try getting more attack speed!)

Related question.

I played it on ps4 and finished the story. I then levelled up a bit and did some rifts and such up to T2.

Is there any more to it I was missing or do the new changes add anything significant like a new boss or something to grind towards?

I was always enjoying it, but it seemed like grinding to grind more and I wonder if I'm missing out.

Repeating what a lot of others were saying, it's really night and day. Sure you're doing act 1-4 again, and if campaign is all you care about, the expansion did add a whole ton. But that experience is improved by an immensely overhauled loot system. End game on pc is wonderful, and so much more satisfying than it was before the expansion. Diablo 3 was only passable prior to the big 2.0 patch, even after all its improvements, now it's one of my absolute favorite games.

D3 on the PS4 was a much better experience than the PC launch version. Me and my buddies spent ALOT of time on the PS4 version even though the we all have machines that can monster D3 on windows. D3 just works better with a controller and a controller scheme.

There are Greater Rifts but it's really more of a high level thing for you to test your gear and maximize your DPS + EHP. The whole point of the grind is to get higher on the rankings.

You are only really missing out on Legendary Gems and some bosses (which are really just regular enemies suped up with some special attacks that you have seen before). There is also the Treasure realm that might pop up as well as Uber bosses to craft the Hellfire Amulet (best in slot for a lot of classes).

The game is always grinding to grind more and that's what Diablo has always been. If you are having fun doing that then the game is doing its job.

I would say the main thing to work towards in D3 which is now really easy is to get the full class set of your class and play that build. It's radically different than what your character is normally capable of... you will destroy most lower Torments and at a point even crush T6. Everything after that is min maxing that build.

From what you describe I do not think you should buy it.

You stopped playing at at normal. Definitely, because you do not like core game.

In RoS , core game is quite the same but chapter V is better than chapter I-IV and you have quest mode and rift which is dungeon that random location and mob spawn.

Boss fight is the best in RoS but other than that it is the same grinding with more location/mode to grind.

Speaking of which, is there anything to see in the treasure realm? (besides general strange stuff)
There's a unique boss and you get a unique Legendary Gem plus a shit ton of gold (like in the 100 million range, something silly like that). The loot drop also is also pretty good, you get multiple Legendaries from the final boss most of the time. But it's still rare to get that portal.

Hmm, must have missed that boss, thanks.

I might dive in again with a new class, it really is a good way to chill out.

D3 is a good game, but suffer from a severe flaw: the builds are far too much centered around some key items. In a game without trading, it is possible that you will never get to try the combo you have in mind.

I'm playing through it now with a friend. I don't think we could possibly be more bored with how ultra pathetic easy the expert play through has been. Pretty bull they we have to wait until Torment to find some fun with it.

Normal through Expert literally make no difference. They were made for rabbits who mash controllers. Ridiculous.

i played it on ps3 originally and stopped playing after beating diablo. tried it again on PC and just didn't like the keyboard/mouse and also my laptop couldn't run that great.

bought UEE on PS4 and i'm enjoying it a lot more. i'd say the story is just a warm up until the game really gets started after you complete the story. once you hit lvl 70 and start doing paragon levels it's much better. i'm lvl 70 paragon 20 just now. trying to work my way up to T6 but i can only manage T3 at the moment. T4 is OK but just takes too long to kill monsters.

i'm enjoying the game more on PS4 than PS3/PC.

I agree with many have already said.

I bought the game at lunch. Found it very boring and didn't completed it.

Got it as a gift for ps4 and now it's one of my favorite games from 2014. Just playing with controls makes it a lot more fun.

I also found Diablo 3 boring and I've just finished Diablo 3: UEE on PS4.
Go for it!

Controllers >> Keyboard + Mouse for Diablo 3.

D3 on consoles can be played offline, that fact alone already make it the superior version

I always laugh at posts like this.

Considering you made this post and 8,180 other posts like it you had to be connected to the internet. yet somehow because one version allows you to play for the 5 minutes you're not connected to the internet in a year, it makes it superior than the one that has actual gameplay stuff.

(your post would be accurate if Diablo was a Valve game, but Blizzard is competent and keeps their servers up almost all the time. Steam on the other hand goes down every 5 minutes)

Not if you like being able to aim your spells and abilities.

I had no trouble playing with wiz...played couch co-op with friends who had never played the game and they had zero problems too...
Blizzard adaptation for the controller is flawless....

Doesn't the console version nerf the number of enemies or something? That may be completely false, but I'm almost confident someone on gaf said it.

It's not about having trouble, it's about wanting to do the aiming yourself instead of have the computer do it for you.

IIRC console enemy density is still a bit lower on PS4/XB1 than PC, but much higher than the last gen console versions. I'm guessing that control differences (harder to pinpoint enemies) and the closer camera also had something to do with it.

First, I'm a huge d2 fan. Bought it launch day and my last playthrough Was just last year.

I bought vanilla d3 on launch day on pc. Played it through once and put it away for good. Really disliked it.

Bought UEE on black Friday and have been playing regularly since.

I had a moment around a week ago while playing where I just sat back and said to my brother over Skype "you know, this just might be better than diablo 2."

He agreed.

I'd say no. D3 in it's current form is not quite so terrible as the initial vanilla D3. But a lot of the issues are still there, and while blizzard did some good like remove the AH, they fucked it up immediately again by having no trading in the game...

One of my friend had Diablo III on ps3 while I had UEE on PS4 and one day when he came I showed him the game and since he always wants to play the utlimate evil edition.
He got it a few days ago and doesn't regret it.
The addition of an adventure mode
-the templar
-more legendaries
-one more act
-since a few days 3 new races of gobelins
-blood crystals
-schemes are much easier to learn
-Breach and major Breaches 'if you're on ps4 some are the last of us themed or shadow of the colossus(sorry i'm not quite sure it's the good name for it)

Believe me jump on it you won't regret.

Diablo 3 ROS is basically a totally different game from vanilla D3, but it will never live up to your perception of D2.

This is true. From my understanding the "real" game doesn't even start until the higher difficulty levels. I pretty much steamrolled the first difficulty.

Absolutely. It's a stellar game now.

Not even close comparing to vanilla. Yes the gameplay is exact the same but this was never its demerit but everything around like bad legendaries, crazy loot chance, lack of end content, RMAH etc. (okay not on consoles but on PC)

Everything got addressed with Reaper of Souls and now it´s a blast to play. So much fun when you play coop couch with friends or just rushing through greater rifts with your overpowered class. There is ton to do now when you hit lvl70 so this game will keep you playing even after months you beat the campaign.

I got D3 at launch and was disappointed. I couldn't get into it. After the patch and with the release of RoS I beat the game 3 times. Great stuff.

To be honest i'm quite surprised so many are tolerant of the insanely low difficulty of this "2.0" patch. Thank god we're almost level 60 so I can jack it up to Torment to hopefully have an ounce of fun. This is almost like the scenario with FFXIII where people found it boring until Pulse.

To quote the Simpsons: ''It looks like ketchup, it tastes like ketchup, but brother, it ain't ketchup''

It's not even the same thing anymore, they pretty much refined the whole thing, in a good way.

You should have seen it coming though. The bitch fit at launch about Inferno was deafening. I think times have just changed and the average gamer doesn't want that brickwall difficulty level anymore. As soon as they made it really easy, people loved the game again.

Its still great fun to play, but it doesn't last. Once I reach the point where I can stomp through high Torment, I just wanna wait for a new season to start over. Sucks..

My GOTY of 2014. We have to thank Josh Mosqueira for this it was him who had the momentum to build up to where we are now. That guy and off course the whole team redefined and shaped what Reaper of Souls is today. If you have watched Blizzcon last year they told how it went 2 years ago to now and what a bumpy road it was.

Vanilla Diablo 3 was just a mess and yes even i agree with that but i just stopped because the game was no fun at that point. Doing the campaign over and over again isn't fun, also i was doing more stuff for getting gold instead of getting phat lewts. The Auction House was a mistake i knew it and everyone else knew it. The game wasn't about having fun in killing monsters at all. Also the loot was just terrible in those hours i played i never saw a Legendary drop..ok i did see one legendary and it wasn't even for my class and it had the weirdest stats that didn;t even make sense!

So fast forward to now clocking over 400/500 hours on PC and now back again with patch 2.1.2 for Season 2. I can say yes buy and play this game,i do own it also on PS4 but i play it more on PC because i prefer mouse and keyboard. They did a excellent job on PS4 but different folks different strokes.

Adventure Mode is where the heart is of this game...the story well yeah it's there at least Act 1,2 and 4 are good 3 is uttershit blegh..act 5 is better a lot more diverse and a lot more to do. Matheal is at least more interesting but after you unlock Adventure Mode then the real game begins.

Everything is open from every act, there is no interruption where you go it's do what you want like Bounty's to begin with. Then it's off to do Nephalem Rifts and then higher difficulty with even better chance on legendary's. Greater Rifts for even more difficulty and better loot also new goblins in patch 2.1.2. The Vault where it rains gold and loot because you want it! And killing many many monsters in 1 blow is just amazing. Also all the classes have been rebalanced and changed since 2.0 for the greater good and hitting a enemy giving more a extra oompf.

So yeah get this game you will not regret it and play with friends and create a clan!

I plowed through the PS4 version this past week, though it was my first Diablo game.

I have to say, playing on the hardest initially available difficulty is a joke. I rolled Crusader (which is apparently overpowered, I guess) and died twice. Once was due to an attack from the boss in Act 3 that cleared my entire health bar in a second after a solid like 10 minute battle, and the other was just being overwhelmed by a mob and not paying enough attention.

I beat every single boss in the game including Diablo and Mathael by spamming my primary skill and holding X whenever wrath ran out. I could have probably one without looking at the screen. The health regen is nuts.

Are health potions supposed to be nearly pointless? I used <5 in the entire game and finished with something like 89 total.

I did enjoy the game though, Destiny should have learned from it. Hopefully in a year Destiny resembles the second go-around for Diablo 3.

I still think the drop rate for ledgendaries that are truly worth something is complete horse shit. "Here, play Diablo 3 for another 70hrs to get one Legendary that MIGHT give you the boost you're looking for"

A lot of legendaries drop than ever before, but the majority are worth jack shit.

It's possible that you'll like it, but they didn't turn it into a proper Diablo II sequel in case that's what you're looking for.

D3 UEE is the perfect example of how to re-release a game on current-gen systems - it's not just an HD port, but an improvement in every conceivable way.
