And it sucks, since it is needed for social events.

My father was an alcoholic and growing in that enviroment made me despise the smell and taste of it.

Had like 1/4 of a beer in my entire live and 3/4 of a Piña Colada. I'm 30 y/o

And society constantly pushes for me to drink. I want to experience getting drunk without the shit taste sometimes tho.

What beverages do you recommend? are you the same as me?

It tastes good, not so hard to understand.
Also getting drunk with friends ends up in awesome stories

If you want to try it out once I suggest going to a place in your area that specializes in cocktails and beer. Tell them your situation and I'm sure they'll gather some cocktails and brews to your liking and go from there.

If you really want to try being drunk though, just get some wine coolers or a bottle of vodka and some orange juice.

I love drinking beer. The smell of it. The sound of beer pouring into the glass. The first beer buzz hit. It's all good.

First, it is absolutely not needed for social events. Only those with undeveloped personalities find that they need these substances to relate and engage with others. This is very much a sign of pathology. You understand the dangers of alcohol and its effects on society and your family, I certainly don't think you should follow in your father's footsteps. My advice would be to stick to your initial instincts and respect the fact that the poison is disgusting and absolutely unnecessary to a fulfilling social life.

Just get a club soda with lime. No one will be the wiser and bother you about not drinking.

I like drinking, but I don't drink much.

Don't drink. No one is pushing you.

I drink at social events, and I truly do not care if someone is drinking or not. If you're that worried about it just get a water with lime, and put a mixing straw in it.

And if I could read, I'd say if you're not into drinking now, no reason to get into it.

2 parts vodka, 1 part kahlua, 3 parts irish cream, mixed over ice. Your path to understanding begins now.

Seriously though, you have to drink because you yourself enjoy it, whether it be the taste or the mood alterations. Drinking because of social pressure is absolutely the wrong thing to do.

If you want to get drunk, then i'm sure there are plenty of alcoholic drinks out there which you will like the taste of (or at least not mind).

Personally, I like Pepsi Max, it's cheaper, tastes better to me, and doesn't make me wake up with a headache. That's just my personal preference though, people obviously prefer different drinks for different reasons. Though, i'm no fan of clubs (or similar), so don't have to deal with any pressure to drink alcohol.

I don't drink, mostly because I have a liver condition, but I can once in a while. I usually get like a mojito or something mixed. Cannot stand rum, whiskey, vodka, even beer. Some of my friends drink every night. I think it all tastes like shit and doesn't really benefit your body. I've heard one beer/wine a night is good but people do way more than that.

Plus it's expensive as fuck.

I buy a crate of Budweiser if I'm drinking usually, I'm a student so it's cheap, and tastes less bad than Fosters, Carlsberg, Carling etc. I don't really buy the 'acquired' taste bullshit, if it tastes shit now it will forever so try something else.

For actual drinking, try

- Ciders (particularly Rekorderlig)
- Wine (Wine is sick)
- Guiness
- Amaretto and Cranberry
- Vodka + Your favourite soft drink
- Irish Liquors (Baileys)
- COCKTAIIIIIIIIIIIIILS

It's an acquired taste, which means you have to drink more than 1/4 of a beer to acquire it.

Yeah Budweiser will always taste shit, you're not wrong there.

You sound like my friend before he started to drink. Also it's not needed for social events, it just makes engaging in them easier. The biggest thing about drinking is knowing your limit. I usually touch my nose and if it's slightly numb, I know that I'm tipsy enough. As far as the taste, you'll just have to try different things. I find vodkas and their ilk to be the smoothest drink and you can mix those easily with fruit juices. Also bacardi and OJ is pretty good too.

EDIT: Also I think beer is terrible, but it may be because I've only had bad ones. It's so disgusting.

the buzz is only fun during the first hour, then it starts to go downhill into sleeper ville after that.

Alcohol is a depressant and it totally sucks on 2nd, 3rd and 4th hour.

the buzz is ONLY fun in the first hour.

And lest not forget the damned piss breaks. I gotta go pee, i gotta go pee, I gotta go pee

fuck that shit

Somewhere between here and there.
You never need to drink for social events. Just drink water. If anyone asks, just say it isn't your thing.

But if you want to know the sensation of being drunk, research some fruity or sweet drinks to make it easier. But to be honest, just avoid it. Alchohol is addictive, and its a long dark path if it gets the best of you.

Yep. The big beers all suck. I do love craft beers.

Guinness is like the textbook case of acquired taste for alcoholic beverages.

I don't really drink. It does suck getting the looks and vibes you get from people when you tell them you don't drink but fuck it. I don't enjoy it so why should I force myself. I used to drink back in my early 20s so I had my fun with it. I just hate how it makes me feel afterwords even if I only have a little.

I have a sensitive stomach so that is the main reason honestly.

Drunk =! Drinking

You just can't say no to a good cuba libre, a fernet or a scotch, amazing drinks and you don't have to get drunk but enjoy a different taste.

If indeed by social convention you have to be drunk, just act like many people do.

Try more 'girly' drinks. A strawberry daquiri is a good place to start and something very few people would say doesn't taste good.

If you like soda, try a rum or whiskey & coke. If making it yourself, only use one shot per 10-12oz. If ordering it, ask for a weaker drink(they'll be happy to oblige!).

If you like orange juice, try a screwdriver(vodka and orange juice) or a tequila sunrise(orange juice, tequila and grenadine, one of my favorites).

These all mask the taste of the alcohol a huge amount, if not completely. A few drinks in and you'll be feeling good. People that have never even so much as gotten a little buzz can feel proud of themselves all they want, but they have no idea what they're missing. Not saying its something everybody will enjoy, but its at least something worth trying to see if you might.

Because somebody used to piss-weak beer is probably going to have a hard time with a Guinness their first go-around. I love the stuff, but I've noticed a lot of people don't at first, sometimes never.

You're not wrong about cheap beer, though. It exists because sometimes cheap beer is better than no beer.

I don't like how a lot of our culture is based around drinking (particularly in the night life and at social events) but I don't have any issues with alcohol as a beverage and I don't have issues with occasionally drinking some to either enjoy the flavor or to "loosen up" in certain circumstances.

People just rely way too much on it, and our culture seems to obsess over it which can be annoying.

I enjoy an occasional mixed drink (my favorite being the frozen margarita, but only when done right) and a few select types of beer, but I'm hardly drinking all the time and I don't often get full on drunk at all. Sometimes a buzz, but nothing more.

If people were more focused on the pure fun of activities rather than the augmentation of said activities through inebriation, they'd be better off.

You don't have to drink in social situations. Alternatives I guess would be virgin versions of drinks.

Or just soda or water or juice. People aren't going to know the difference. And if they do, so what? You don't drink. Not something they need to worry about. Not something you have to apologize for either.

And I say this as an avid social drinker.

Uhh, I think strength is another issue entirely. I'm fairly certain that any Guinness drinkers will always have liked the drink, that or they're trying wayyyyyyyyyyy to hard to fit in/be Irish.

Alcohol is a depressant and it totally sucks on 2nd, 3rd and 4th hour.

Not in the way you think it is.

Because the activities are shit sans alcohol. The amount of bullshit parties that have been saved by getting drunk... can't count.
