I've a PS4 Pro.
An X1X.
A Switch.
Vita, 3ds, etc..
They're great. But for the foreseeable future, any new game that is on Stadia will be my first choice.

Ok ok, I have amazing internet where I live. Ok ok, their library has barely just started.

But I'm telling you. Stadia is the future.

It works as a handheld. It works on my TV. It looks amazing.

I picked up a Samsung Galaxy S8 second hand pretty cheap on ebay. I bought an xbox controller clip for about 5 quid. Mortal Kombat 11+Aftermath bundle was €59.99

For the TV I just used my work laptop and opened Stadia.com on chrome browser (and add xbox controller as a bluetooth device).

I know people hate Stadia and I know why. But the fledgling Xcloud wouldn't exist without Stadia and remote play on ps4 never fully met the mark.

Sometimes playing a gory game on the family tv is not an option. Mortal Kombat 11 on my Switch is shoddy in comparison.
 
Well PS Now has streming based on Gaikai, probably even from the time when Andriod was in it's infancy. I am not sure how can you shout out for something which is payed and you have no guanratee how long Stadia is going to exist. If you are insider try Xcloud, because it's free so far and you have all the GamePass games on your device. Or pay mere 10 bucks for PS Now, I think it's way better deal.
 
You're way ahead of your time OP. As much as people hate to admit subscription based streaming services are the future.

It's not a future that i like at all but i also can't pretend that it's not coming.

Gamers will want it too once the publishers find the right bait.Or the right "sweet spot".The bait may be called Gamepass,PSNow or whatever and once the right "deals" will come gamers will start to bend over. Just like they did with digital.

Troll thread or are you actually championing a future where you pay a monthly fee and yet still have to buy the games at full price separately and where you actually own nothing and require always on internet connectivity and deal with lag and graphical artifacts? Hope that check from Google is a nice one buddy.

Don't care about Gamepass when I own a backlog 10x bigger. Tried PSNow free trial, and beat Spider-Man, The Last of Us and Red Dead Redemption, all under a week. My overall experience? It sucked. 720p max resolution, 30 fps, PS4 controller requirement, and stuttering gameplay, and my internet is fast. I also don't own the games, so obviously I can't replay them unless I pay monthly, but wait the games rotate so I can't play them anymore anyways! If this is the future of gaming, count me out forever!

You have your Xbox console "somewhere" in your house connected to your local network. Then you can play on the tv the console is connected to OR the other tv in another room OR the phone OR on your tablet and the latency is better than streaming from the "cloud".

My hope is that MS release apps for TV:s and AppleTV. Currently only Android phonr or tablet is available.

Same for me but i'm afraid we will soon be the minority.

As i said publishers sooner or later will find the right bait to make people open up their legs and accept streaming.

Do you remember the "outrage" with XB1's reveal. "Noooo i have the right as a consumer to own my games" they yelled. "Noooo i want to be able to sell my games" they yelled. "Noooo i want to be able to lend my games to my friends" they yelled.

And then Gamepass came and everyone was like that:

Their "consumer rights" went out of their window once MS started renting games for "free". Everything has a price and it's only a matter of time when the publishers will find the right way to own your ass.The same thing will happen with streaming subscription services and the majority who are against it today for x reasons they will open up their legs once the technology and the price proposition is the right one.

I'm skeptical of gamepass success, how can we know for sure it was a success, or Microsoft is just pulling numbers out of their ass to build hype around it? We know stadia bombed, at least google was honest about that, I doubt they would market their failure. Either way there will always be a market for some inviduals like OP here. Newbies and casual might jump on it since they haven't built a backlog, but beyond that I can't see how this is a feasible future for "gamers".

That same shit was trouted out for Netflix! Come on guise, cut the cable, look at this one cool streaming service, watch all these good movies and shows in one space. Fast forward half a decade, that good content is split up into 10 different streaming services, and the only thing different now from the Cable companies of old, is there is no middle man grouping those services as a package. No thanks.
 
Going to try ESO on Stadia when it arrives, if it works smoothly going to buy Greymoor through it. For me the service would be perfect... shitty PC but good internet connection where I live and am a KB/M player.
 
I hate to be that guy.... But... I'm deeply sceptical about this kind of service.

Imagine that your internet is down, there was a server issue and/or any other thing.... and your new love will disappear.

Also, good luck with buying a niche title and hoping that in 10 years you will still be able to play it on the Stadia.

If they can get it working well, doesn't have to be prefect for me as I don't play things that require twitch reflexes, I'm all for it.

I don't collect and rarely replay things so buying games is a huge waste of money. Realized the same with movies/shows and music years ago. So much money wasted collecting DVDs, Blurays and cds that were mostly never getting watched or listened to as my wife and I just prefer new things. Music has more replay. value, but really just the same few bands/albums and everything we listen to is on Spotify.

Streaming is way cheaper than buying or even renting so it's been a god send there. I put all our dvds and cds and all but a few absolute favorite movies on Blu-ray in binders a couple years ago. Haven't even unzipped those binders once since.

Games I still buy, mostly digital to avoid clutter or having to sell—unless it's a short game to want to play at launch and sell to recoup some costs. But I'd love a reasonably priced streaming or download rental service. Gamepass has been great for grabbing a month here or there when games is otherwise buy hit it. Selection is a bit limited for my tastes though since Sony and Nintendo first party games get a huge chunk of my play time.

I mean, honestly, it's great that there are people getting a lot out of Stadia. Options are good. Having multiple ways to play games is nice.

It's not for me but there's an audience for steaming gameplay out there. I don't think it's the future. I have a hard time seeing streaming take over as primary method of mainstream gaming

For those talking about xcloud and xbox console streaming, I have both (I also play PS4 in 1080p on my ipad with a dualshock). Xcloud is great but it wouldn't exist without Stadia - and sorry, but Stadia is fluid as fuck in comparison (and I'm not even using their wifi pad).

I dont know what kind of video encoding they are using but even being physically connected with LAN to my xbox and doing console streaming, Stadia is STILL faster.

Obviously if you've crap internet forget it. But I am sick installing 40GB updates. I wish Stadia would just jump past splash screens too (bane of my fucking life).

I'm not associated with them in any way except as a customer. They have committed that games are permanent and theres a free option to play the games you purchased.

Their library is pitiful for now and there is a risk it could all disappear but I do have backlogs on other platforms in my collection.

It's pretty cool that you don't have any download. Play anywhere is awesome too. I think there is room for this kind of service.
 
Hope you didn't buy any games there, this thing is nearly dead and once they shut it down...you'll have nothing left to play. No save file, not even a trophy or achievement. It's a bit of a waste of time.
 
I'm glad that you're enjoying it. Personally, I think it's the cancer of the gaming industry and will be dead in a year or 2, like a lot of google projects/products.

and how exactly is stadia the cancer of the industry? It's a new player on the market betting on new tech that may eventually take over, so far with very mixed results. Their business model is horrible and I'm sure they know it, especially now after the Valve and NVIDIA venture announcement they have no choice but to change it. I've never tried it, I'm not interested but I like the fact others are, all the hate its getting is just baffling
 
Not to bash on your parade but i rather have lower gfx MK11 on the switch then some internet depended service.

It's not just Stadia, it's streaming games in general and all the bad that comes with it. For starters, not owning the game. The lack of preservation, who's to say that after 2 years it'll still be available on the streaming platform of your choice? And many other reasons. That's my problem with it. And it will be a problem, especially for smaller obscure titles. Music copyright in the game expires and the game gets pulled from the platform. Who played it, played it. See where I'm going with this?
That's why it's the cancer of the industry. Not just Stadia but every game streaming platform. It's good to have a choice, but if this becomes the ONLY way to play games in the future, then it becomes the problem, imo. And streaming only opens up so many new way to rip off the consumer with microtransactions. It's like, a whole new level.
And also, most people hate changes. Myself included. And I also hate when people say that this is the future. Kinda like what these news outlets are saying for COVID, that this is the new normal. I wanna throw up when I hear that phrase.

So again it's mainly about content ownership and stability. I see where you're coming from but you're beating a dead horse. I once collected vinyl, then moved over to an ipad and now I'm streaming. And I love it, because I love changes if they're for the better. I'm afraid this is the future, and not a distant one. I bet you ten years from now almost all multimedia and related services will be subscription-based, all streamed from a cloud. Such licensing the use of the content without "owning" it - is the price of having a vast, affordable online library of cool shit for anyone with a sufficient internet connection to consume.
It's the opposite of cancer, it's a direction that will eventually allow this medium to prosper, our internet speeds are not yet ready for it.
 
I'm very happy to hear that someone is genuinely enjoying Stadia. Its certainly not a service which I'm the target demographic, but a team of developers put a lot of thought and hard work into Stadia. Fun thread, OP.
