I think I was accidentally racist today

#1
I made an error of judgement. While I was conversing with a (indigenous) friend today, they happened to notice a group of people forming a circle which obstructed anyone from seeing what was inside of the circle. My friend asked if I knew what the group were doing and I casually remarked that it was probably a drug deal or something. This was before I actually fixated my eyes and noticed that everyone in the circle was black. I also noticed the scent of marijuana in the air at the time and that is more than likely where the "drug" aspect came from. The marijuana most likely resulted in a 'second hand high', which I have often found myself susceptible to-- likely resulting in my brief lapse of social judgment. The friend in question did not laugh and ever since I have been receiving stern disconcerting looks from others among our social circle.

How do I go about expressing my approval of other races at a subconscious level? Are there any articles of clothing that would accomplish this?

This honestly doesn't seem like a huge deal at all, perhaps you are projecting that your friends disapproved of comment? It's more likely they thought it wasn't funny because it wasn't funny. You made a statement, not a joke.

....You didn't catch a contact from walking by a group of people...trust me.

But anyway...eh, you said yourself that you didn't even realize the people in the group were black until after you said it, so....while MAYBE your friends MIGHT think you were making a racist comment, in reality, your comment was not in fact racist.

Hmm I haven't smoked weed in ages but can't say it ever made me racist. Sounds like you maybe made a racist stereotype and are trying to soften the blow.

This could have been an interesting discussion about trying to break away from nurtured prejudices but instead we have second-hand highs and anti-racist clothing queries.

I can't tell if this is a joke or not.

Theres no way this isn't a troll post. Please someone. Please save me.
Like, the past week has thrown me for a loop. Normally I'd say it is, but people are showing me that I've been giving them the benefit of the doubt way too often.

This sounds like a plot in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

To be honest, this just sounds like bad judgement. At least you're aware of this unlike many people who ignore it.

What the hell am I reading? Why do you write about social interactions like an official statement from a human resources department?

Is this a video of you, OP?
