It's darn early into Just Cause 4. I've barely taken over any territory, and I'm given a mission where I have to get three sets of codes. After I gather the codes, I learn that the data is encoded, and I have to decode it or the data is worthless. A transmitter antenna is raised, and I'm told that I need to defend the transmitter. I quickly grapple into the air, and then come the drones. They start attacking, and I start to shoot them. I'm parachuting around, and attempting a "death from above" approach. Every time, I'm running out of ammo, and they blow up the transmitter. Making matters worse, the previous sections had weapon crates I could access, and this part does not. Mercifully, there's a checkpoint right before the transmitter part, so I don't have to get the codes every time.
After several failures, I decided I'd mostly use my grapple. I equip explosive balloons, and start to take out the drones, but they're just too hard to hit that quickly from the air. Then I realize that the transmitter is a tower, and it has two platforms that I can stand on. Now I can quickly tie the drones together, and deal with them that way. Then come the helicopters. They're a little more resilient, but I can still deal with them. Then come even more waves of helicopters and drones, and then things get really unfair. As I'm standing on the tower, the enemies start attacking from so far away that my grapple can't reach them anymore, my guns don't do enough damage quickly enough, and I can't refill my heavy weapons because there are no darn weapon crates anywhere!
At this point, I've tried fighting from the higher transmitter platform, the lower transmitter platform, tried shooting enemies while above them, tried to grapple the enemies together, tried to shoot the enemies that are too far away to be grappled to, tried to parachute and grapple to the enemies, and I'm just never fast enough. I've failed what feels like at least a dozen times now, and I'm pretty sure I'm just done with the game. I'm not having fun anymore, and this seems to be a ridiculous task to ask of players who are only a couple hours into your massive standbox game.
As a last resort, I had to at least see what a successful run for the mission looks like. So I typed "Just Cause 4 defend the transmitter" into you tube, and that's when I saw this:
