If I buy one JRPG for the 360 what should it be?

I kind of have a hankering for a jrpg on the 360. Haven't bought one this generation so far so I'm a bit in the dark on how the current ones stack up so far this gen.
 
Strangely, I haven't bought any jRPGs for my 360 yet. But when I have time for jRPGs I'll be picking up Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia.
 
Tales of Vesperia was the only one that held my interest the whole way through(multiple times even). Just an outstanding game.
 
scary, I was JUST about to start this same thread.

But mine was going to include suggestions for the PS3 and Wii too. I won all 3 and I WANT to try and get into JRPGs.

I didn't mind the Blue Dragon demo.

PS3 - Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea 3, Folklore.
Wii - Fire Emblem, Tales of Symphonia
 
I had the most fun with Lost Odyssey. Vesperia got boring quickly for me, the story just felt childish. Lost Odyssey felt much more mature, especially the flashback stories. Best writing I've ever seen in a game.
 
Tales of Vesperia is the best, but if cost is a factor, Lost Odyssey has been popping up at $30 from time to time during the holidays.
 
Seems the consensus is Tales of Vesperia. Haven't played it but I saw the combat and it looked interesting. Not that it matters as I don't demand epic length from my rpgs's but curious how long it is.
 
Blue dragon or Lost odyssey. Cant go wrong with either and can both probly be had for the price of Vesperia. Get 2 for the price of 1 and just wait for the newer RPG's to drop in price

The Vesperia demo sucks. But yeah, it's the best 360 RPG I've played so far (haven't opened TLR yet) by a large margin. The game reminds me a lot of DQVIII, except with non-terrible combat and characters.

Demo is what made me not buy the game. Combat and everything was horrible! Im hoping ill change my mind with the full version when its resonably priced. But yea the demo isnt a good idea.

Same can be said for Blue Dragons demo. Really bad.

Thanks, I should have mentioned though, I'm not interested in anything TOO hardcore.

The only RPGs(more tradiitonal)/JRPGs I've played AND enjoyed were Record of Lodoss War, Grandia 2 and Skies of Arcadia.

Yeah I like Fable, and I like Zelda, but I consider those adventure games, not RPGs.

So knowing that, does that change your suggestions at all?
 
If you want old school RPG awesome with a great turn-based battle system and a good-albeit-cliched story, get Blue Dragon.

If you want a very interesting and somewhat mature story with great cinematic presentation and solid gameplay, get Lost Odyssey.

If you want something more action oriented, and like colorful graphics, get Tales of Vesperia.

If you want more squad-based RPG with an interesting battle system and don't care about technical problems like texture pop or load times, get The Last Remnant.

Depends on what you do, but anywhere from 40-60 hours or so.
 
Lost Odyssey.

I'm still in the beginning of Last Remnant though, so I haven't really formed an opinion of that one yet, but so far Lost Odyssey has it beat IMO.

Out of those, Disgaea 3 is probably the most "hardcore" but beginners can still enjoy it. Plus, it's just hilarious XD

Valkyria Chronicles and Symphonia: Dawn of the New World will probably be up your alley, among those choices.
 
Tales of Vesperia.
I enjoyed Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and Enchanted Arms, but Vesperia just had an amazing grip from start to finish. The battle system is so much fun too. I gave up on Eternal Sonata pretty quickly as all the enemies were the same and it was quite slow. Not tried Infinite Undiscovery or The Last Remnant yet.

I haven't played Tales of Vesperia yet so I'd have to go with Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon is a close second.

Basically. Both are at the very least "great" games. I think Odyssey edges Vesperia out a bit, but Vesperia is not a bad choice at all. LO is probably cheaper, though.

I suspect most people here haven't gotten around to TLR, so they can't speak for it yet. But out of all the others, those two titles would definitely be the top ones to try.

At least until SO4 and FFXIII are properly received.
 
The Last Remnant! Seriously! Don't read any reviews, make sure you have NXE and enough space to install it to minimize loading drastically. Oh, and you need lots of free time or leftover vacation leave.

Due to finals I haven't been able to dive into it too much yet, but I do like what I played, despite the already-stated-many-times technical issues. Looking forward to seeing how it shapes up, though.

The demo is very unrepresentative. First, they don't explain enough of the battle system. When you actually understand it, it's pretty fun and engaging, whereas in the demo I basically just button mashed because I didn't know any better. Second, the story and voice acting is a lot better than the demo suggests. Really, the demo makes the story and acting seem terrible, when they're actually good. They also cut out some of the story scenes and removed all the skits that actually occur in that part of the game.
 
I haven't played any other 360 RPGs yet, but I have played about 300 games in my life across all systems and Tales of Vesperia sits atop the pile as my favorite.

I know you said not to look at any reviews but I did (:D ). What is better about it than what they are giving it? Honest question. I have an open mind.

Every reviews knocks it down for technical issues but honestly, after installing, only the texture pop-in remains and even then it's not a big deal (i think i notice it maybe twice as often as i noticed pop-in in Gears 1). I was 15 hours into Vesperia when I got TLR 3 days ago and now I'm probably 15 hours in TLR and don't intend to touch another game outside of RB/GH until I finish this.
