UPDATE: NOW WITH GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE ZOMG!!! (at bottom of OP)

Summary from GoNintendo: http://www.gonintendo.com/s/239272-...rs-trilogy-for-wii-but-the-project-was-canned

Direct link to video (Nintendo Voice Chat podcast excerpt, not gameplay footage!): http://www.ign.com/videos/2014/10/10/more-cancelled-star-wars-games-revealed-nvc-podcast

The trilogy would have included Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, and Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, all updated for Wii.

- originally in the works for the Xbox
- Factor 5 became interested in motion controls on Wii
- the team decided to resurrect the Xbox Star Wars Trilogy project for Wii
- the team salvaged the code and started bringing the game over
- the project was 50% done on Xbox
- all control schemes were supported, including GameCube controller and various peripherals
- you could even use the Wii wheel to control your X-Wing, using the balance board for pedals
- revamped content included speeder bike racing levels, third-person action sequences, and lightsaber battles
- lightsaber battles used 1:1 motion controls
- all-new graphics engine running at 60 frames per second
- the project was completed, but then cancelled
- cancellation is blamed on the financial crisis of 2008
- other publishers tried to help out
- unfortunately, financial hardship, legal snafus and budgetary restrictions killed the game

- Julian Eggebrecht, former president of Factor 5 loves the Wii U, but its unpredictable trajectory and licensing troubles in general make a new Star Wars Wii U game unlikely

Now excuse me while I go cry in a corner.

Why would the trilogy have to be on Wii/Wii U? Does Nintendo still own a stake in that franchise?

Imagine a shooting at tie fighters with the Wii U game pad like the 'don't get cocky kid' bit in the Millennium Falcon. Could be really cool.

Disney loves the Nintendo brand; I'm sure they could work this out for the Wii U much easier now than it was back then. It's just getting the project to the right decision maker.

Doubtful since they were working on it for Xbox originally. It's just that this is from a Nintendo-centric podcast/interview so that's probably why it was talked about in that way.

IGN does video podcasts? And no footage of the actual game?

They post segments as videos over the course of the week until the next episode.

Yeah....this doesn't make any sense. A completed, great Star Wars game for the most popular console in the world was cancelled? seriously, if any game would sell good during a financial crisis, its probably legit good Star Wars games. Whoever the exec was that made this decision was not smart. the whole star wars game brand situation has just been a clusterfuck for years now.
