While this is great news for a lot of folks, I understand why PS4 owners would be upset about parity with the Xbone, they bought a more powerful console and it's not their problem Microsoft gimped their console on purpose whithout giving a damn about their fanbase and stuff like this. I can't blame Bungie though, they have to scale things back for last gen consoles, I only hope the extra resources are used for a better IQ and a more stable framerate instrad of effects.

It's possible the PS4 version hasn't been "gimped" in any way.

I could whine and cry about every PC game I bought my 780 for being gimped by consoles...yet I'm not even mad...it is all good.

It's pretty much these kinds of posts.

I guess we only see what we want to.

Anyone could say the exact same thing about Colin Moriarty.

You do know this guy a few months ago tried to say that you couldn't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p?

Now he's frothing at the gash at the fact that this is 1080p. Colin has never been that bad.

So no, you can't say the 'exact same thing' about Colin Moriarty. Colin also didn't beg to feature in their E3 press conference.

I've spoken about parity before in other threads. This isn't like last generation where the PS3 was better than the 360 at some things and worse at other things (and vice-versa), to the point where - when everything was said and done - they ended up being very similar to each other. This time around the power gap between the PS4 and Xbone is much more significant and leaving those advantages on the table for the sake of parity is just unacceptable. Some people may not have an issue with that, and I can completely understand that viewpoint, but from my viewpoint this behaviour is something I'm not going to reward and throw money at. I have no problems voting with my wallet on this issue.

You're free to spend or withhold your money however you want, I'm just saying that not buying a game because it "isn't better enough" seems like more of an ideological stance than a pragmatic one. Refusing to buy games you enjoy because they could be doing more with your hardware is considered laughable and extremist even by a lot of grumpy PC gamers.

Think about that for a second: Do you want to be worse than our (not so) dearly departed Derrick01?

Everyone's got to know yo.

Wait what?

EDIT: Oh ok.The footage they've shown is 1080p, but the Beta will be 900p.

Why does it even matter? It's going to be 1080p on the PS4 and it will look great, who cares?

Xbox One owners who will be playing Destiny on Xbox (because that's where their friends are or they don't own a PS4)

Playstation 4 owners who feel they paid for a superior product and they need daily reaffirmation of this to the point where other people can't have nice things too.

This is Ryan McCaffrey, second from the left, by the way.

Holy shit what a bunch of uninformed clowns ( for real tho :/ ). How can these guys even hold jobs being so uninformed?

Fuck maybe I should get a job at a site like that. Just spouting random nonsense seems to work.

You determined that from a blurry "1080p" Youtube video?

So does this mean all the consoles are a joke? Or that they all aren't a joke?

Every console out now is capable of a 1080p game. They're also all capable of not running upcoming games @1080p at a respectable framerate without sacrifices.

No, I determined that from the IGN video

Edit: But maybe I just remembered the PS4 version to look better than it actually did. Just compared the footage to PS4 footage and it very similar.

As a third party developer, it's in Bungie's best interest to publicly assure all potential customers of "parity" regardless of whatever minor difference there may be upon release- it's business 101.

The xbone version looks as good as PS4 version in terms of IQ but the framerate isn't nearly the same. It'll be interesting to see if the 900p beta version is identical to PS4's beta in terms of framerate performance.

Perhaps PS4 versions of games should start costing more.

Want developers to take advantage of that extra power? Pay $20 more.

Xbox One players will pay the same for a copy of the game that PS4 players will pay. PS4 players aren't entitled to superior versions from a third party developer just because the PS4 is a more powerful machine.

They also paid less or the same amount currently for their consoles. We already paid less for a more powerful machine. I could maybe understand if the PS4 was a more expensive machine, but it was $100 less until very recently.

Can't have it both ways.

What is this nonsense? I don't remember superior 360 ports costing more than PS3 ports last gen.

I don't know, why did it matter to PC gamers that Dark Souls looked the same as the PS3 version? It's the same game so who cares, right?

TBF the gulf was far, far, far bigger than the XB1 PS4 ever was. But I see your point. But still this is a cross generation game the game was gimped from the get go moaning, about the differences in gimping seems a tad silly. They want sales not graphical showcases.

How does every XB1 thread turn into a PS4 thread about parity?

PS4 has nothing to do with the video shown

Seems to be normal. Most Sony threads turn into shit-tastic concern trolling and comparisons to the upcoming XB1 exclusive lineup. The console wars are in full swing.

It's also possible, as others have noted, that Bungie spend time enhancing the game rather then pushing the hardware as hard as is possible. Personally I'd rather have developers use the time the have to enhance the game experience rather then push the hardware to the limit. Not saying resolution/framerate don;t matter but I wish they weren't the primary focus.

I don't want hardware pushing to be the primary focus, but I really wish consoles would standardize some level of image quality. Say, SMAA, 30 FPS with no dips, 1080p, no sub-native particle effects, and do all your assets within that minimum. It's so weird to go from a perfect IQ game with a little worse polycount/less effects to super bombastic, polygons out the ass but so aliased and subnaitive it's hard to look at.

Has any team kept the same IQ on PS4 and Xbox One, but reduced assets or other effects? I'm surprised I don't see this, I guess maybe it'd be more noticeable in screenshots than 720/900p? I don't have to do this much anymore, but personally I'll hunt down any slider that isn't resolution or framerate when I'm performance optimizing.

Since it takes more work to make an XBO game due to the hardware design than the PS4, that doesn't make much sense.

By your logic, PS4 games should actually be cheaper than XBO games if you tie game price to amount of developer work needed.

Parity would mean that everything about performance and graphics are the same. If a game is 1080p on both platformers but one has a more stable framerate or better graphical effects there is no parity. Everyone should just wait for the DF report before celebrating/trashing bungie for "parity"

Jesus Christ at the dumbass Sony fanboys. Destiny on PS4 will probably have extra graphical bells and whistles, despite both versions running at 1080p.

In fact, it's probably worse for Xbox One owners that this game is 1080p. IMO it would be better to scale the resolution back to 900p and keep frame rate solid and the graphical effects improved.

This. I guess we are in the minority who would rather have the more advanced lighting, effects, etc. than stretching to reach that 1080p arbitrary requirement. Can't believe the embarrassing meltdowns though from the fanboys that can't handle the resolution parity.
Just because the resolution is the same doesn't mean all else will be equal.

I'm just happy to finally see some official Xbox One footage. It's about time.

PC games fly in the face of this type of logic, considering they're more powerful and multiplatform games cost less on their platform than any other.

So, how much of these resolution bumps are to do with the SDK update, and how much are to do with these Microsoft engineers going to Bungie to specifically help them out with optimisations? I heard about this once before on this forum too (not sure if it was regarding Destiny or another game). I wonder what the extent of support from this in-house development optimisation group is?

All we hear about is June SDK update, but 10% doesn't make 900p to 1080p, so most likely Microsoft really wanted this game to be 1080p and gave them some engineer support.

You are on a roll today. Did you forget the part that cost Microsoft some engineers to go and help them get more "parity"?

So why should PS4 owners have to pay more for that when that comes standards, as with others it takes more work?

In other words, Xbox fans should pay more for devs having to double down on their work hours because it's harder to program for.

Talk about asinine opinions.

y'all should be ashamed
I mean, this is very clearly a power play move by MS. This isn't necessarily Bungie deliberately doing anything. Consider:

-Destiny is one of the biggest games, if not the biggest game of the year.
-Sony has full marketing, DLC and bundle exclusivity on lockdown.
-MS releases the patch to unlock 10% extra resources on XB1 to help with performance.
-MS goes to Bungie, and agrees to send over MS engineers to help optimize the performance of the game in utilizing the new extra resources freed up to get to 1080p (confirmed in video), which otherwise would have caused the game to run in 900p like the beta.
-MS gets some nice press and coverage of Destiny for XB1 that not only downplays graphical differences, but gets the word out for the XB1 version that would otherwise be completely overshadowed by PS4 coverage (which will likely happen anyway as it gets closer to release).

This is not Bungie throttling back PS4 features. This is MS doing what they can to get to parity and get some Destiny coverage. A pretty smart move really.

They aren't? Actually they should be entitled to better looking games because they bought the better performing machine, and games that are purposefully held back just because another platform can't keep up sucks. And gamers have the right to not purchase that title in that case.

You are honestly just spouting nonsense nonsense nonsense bro. This might be the new worst post ever.

Looks good.

Also looks like the console war is in full force. Keep fighting that war :lol.

I don't think most people know what parity is. There's much more to graphics than resolution. Wait for the digital foundry article before you claim absurd bullshit. AF, AA, Particles, Shadow, Smoke, HBAO, texture resolution are just a few things to name that could be different between the two versions.

PC has always been a different beast, as there is literally no limits to it and it scales better over time. An older game you bought that struggled on one rig will be much better after an upgrade, and even further down the road you can crank it much more. PC versions ever not having full options to customize miss the point of the platform entirely.

However, did PC players have issues with playing better versions of all games from last gen? Not that I saw. And those are, again, already 'gimping' the version merely by existing. Exclusives are where the full benefit of platforms will always shine, and that won't change.

I'm kind of relieved about the whole situation. I'm basically being forced to buy an Xbone because all my friends have it and I'm going to be playing Destiny with them, so I'm glad it's going to be 1080p. I was afraid of having to play a sub-HD version of the game so this is good news for me.

I would've preferred 60fps at 720p or greater if I can't have both, but I guess more casual catering games like Destiny aim to look nice.

"Take advantage of that extra power" doesn't make sense anyway. The machine having better perf can make it easier to work with not harder. The PS3 and PS2 aren't easier to work with just because they're weaker systems, they're also super weird architecture with proprietary APIs unlike anything else.
