IGN made a list of the Top 100 modern games

69. Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise
74. Cut the Rope
75. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

Every click of the next page it just gets more and more laughable....

Ugh.... I knew what the top 2 were probably going to be but I still wasn't ready for it... I hate game journalists and their obsession with those two properties.

Is AC2 that good? I played AC for a few hours and liked the movement but wasn't really digging the boring game. Then again they do have Brawl up there...

It depends what you're looking for, combat is the weakest part of the game, but there are a few things enjoyable and variety outside of combat, there's not a whole lot of progression as you fight the same enemies type over and over with more gadgets, but once the novelty wears off you will probably get bored of it, I never played AC1 but find 2 enjoyable for the first couple of hours, then it sort of drags on. I enjoyed the tombs the most as they involved more platforming and a bit of puzzle solving (kind of).

The map and world was nicely designed though, it's quite nice to run around the map and climbing buildings, albeit it gets a bit easy due to the nature of the controls (hold down buttons and push towards a direction), same could also be said about other mechanics of the game.

The top 10 is alright. I disagree with a few of their rankings, but I generally agree with the 10 games that they chose. And yes, I do think that ME2 is the best game so far this generation.

The list from 100-11 is random, though. No MGS4 despite the fact that they gave it a 10, and Viva Pinata making the list period is just... ugh. I'll never fully agree with the opinion of someone else, but some of these choices and rankings are ridiculous.

Well look at that. IGN is apparently wrong, even though it's their opinion, but everyone else is right with their own opinion.

I don't understand how this works.

No, I think you understand it perfectly. Imho of course.

Well aren't you the Debbie downer.

Pretty funny and sad how many sequels there are on that list.

Sequels are usually better than their predecessor, in some way. It would be retarded if there weren't sequels on there.

I can't help but find it funny some people are happy than IGN put games they like on the list.

Yeah, it's like IGN posted an opinion and then people posted their opinions in here. It's weird.

I didn't realize IGN came on these forums and called posters out saying they're absolutely wrong.

Lists like these always suck (X is better than Y? Riiiiiiight), but the top 10 is certainly solid.

Needs some more Twilight Princess though.

I was just thinking how I played, and adored, every single game in the top 10. Awesome time to be a gamer.

IGN has changed. It's no longer about games, ideologies, or hardcore gamers. It's an endless series of proxy battles fought by casuals and trolls. IGN - and its consumption of life - has become a well-oiled and retarded machine. IGN has changed. Xbox Live ID-tagged gamers carry ID-tagged achivements, use ID-tagged motion controllers. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefiled control. Everything is monitored and kept under control. IGN has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control...All in the name of getting hits from simple minded idiots who feed them attention. And he who controls the battlefield...controls history. IGN has changed. When the battlefield is under total control...IGN game journalism becomes routine.

I'm loving the ME2 hate in here, despite it was one of Gaf's GOTY as well?

For me, it would definitely be in the top 3. Heck, it may even be my #1 too thinking about it, despite me preferring the story in ME1. But then again, I have not played 100 games this gen. I bet most people haven't.

I also bet that top 10 will change pretty damn quickly when Skyrim and DE:HR are released.

For reference

10) Super Smash Bros. Brawl(#9 2008)
9) Batman: Arkham Asylum(#2 2009)
8) Assassin's Creed II(#5 2009)
7) Uncharted 2: Among Thieves(#1 2009)
6) Fallout 3(#3 3008)
5) Portal 2(NA)
4) Super Mario Galaxy 2(#3 2010)
3) Red Dead Redemption(#2 2010)
2) Bioshock(#3 2007)
1) Mass Effect 2(#1 2010)

So.... based on that alphabetized list.... Minecraft is not on there. Neither is SpaceChem. There's no Audiosurf. And according to this thread, Demon's Souls is #100, meaning that it barely made it. And ignoring all but the most publicized PC titles is a MASSIVE oversight.

Yeah, that's a pretty shitty list. Console-only folks should largely be pleased though.

WTF is Angry Birds doing anywhere near the top 100?

and Valkyria Chronicles better then Valkyria Chronicles 2 its not set in a school

I am oddly at peace with the top 10, apart from Mass Effect 2, which should be knocked down by... I dunno, a few dozen positions? The rest of the list is pretty bullshit.

I'm all for the Mass Effect topping the chart, completely agree. Though I was most happy with the inclusion of Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow which is one of my favorite portable games ever. Great title to represent an era in gaming that is quickly fading away.

Hey, VP:TIP deserves higher than 69! :( Totally one of the best games this gen.

It makes no difference. You're just whining, for whatever reason, maybe someone dissed a game you're aligned with. It doesn't really matter.

SMG2 should have been number one.People complaining about MGS4 are ridiculous, that game is in the same boat with RDR, bloated trash.

your opinion of his opinion is entirely subjective

don't act like your opinion of his opinion is a fact, please, IMO

It actually does smell. Put your nose up to your monitor and sniff his post. Disgusting!

Demon's Souls @100.

No Vanquish.

No Bayonetta.

And no MGS4, even after they were all over it...

I never complain about lists done by other people, and I always try to be respectful. But IGN is the #1 gaming website on the internet. They should do better to properly represent the medium.

Maybe they are #1 because they are so shitty.

Trust me, it makes sense.

Angry Birds
Cut the Rope
Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP
Tiny Wings

Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Brain Age
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Elite Beat Agents
Lumines
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Mario Kart DS
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Meteos
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes
New Super Mario Bros.
Picross DS
Pokemon Black & White
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Tetris DS
The World Ends With You
Valkyria Chronicles II

22 handheld games is respectable for any modern Western publication. There's no sense to the list or a point-of-view, but that was nice of them.

I'm not sure I could take a site seriously when Mass Effect 2 is ranked higher than Super Mario Galaxy 2. Hell, I'm not sure if I could take them seriously if Mass Effect 2 was considered to be in the top 50% of games in general.

Yup, handhelds are here to stay. More peeps should just support it.
