I'm way too lazy to write up my own report, so here's one I read earlier:

In the latest ironically named "Best Damn Podcast Ever" (yes that guy who spawned THIS goldmined thread) Justin Fic reveals that on the Xbox Live PartnerNet (the developer only Xbox Live area for testing beta builds of games and content packs) there is a downloadable version of Ikaruga, the Treasure developed Dreamcast and Gamecube vertical scrolling shooter. (13:40 minutes into the mp3)

Justin goes on to say that the version downloadable currently on PartnerNet crashes on startup. This leads to questions like "Is someone attempting Dreamcast or Gamecube emulation on the Xbox 360?" or "Is Treasure porting their classic shmups to the 360 for download on XBLA?"

Back in January Treasure spoke with 1up.com and was quoted to say "At this point, we're hard at work on our Xbox 360 title." They also state in that interview that they are working on an original title for 360. Are we looking at possible multiple releases from Treasure, a barrage of XBLA games to go with their new game? Or perhaps this Ikaruga is an alpha-build of an unlockable extra for their new game?? RADIANT SILVERGUN COMING SOON ZOMG???

Justin Fic also talks about playing Alien Hominid on PartnerNet around the 40:00 minute mark in the podcast. I would recommend NOT listening to the entire podcast, it is quite horrible.

You wouldn't believe some of the weird shit up on Partnernet, a lot of which seems like something, but is really nothing at all. Could be true though.

And the first rule of Partnernet is, you do not talk about Partnernet.

What's the second rule?

Please put Radiant Silvergun on XBLA.

Then the ebay premium will die and maybe more people will see what a mediocre game it really is.

Uh, what?

There's a reason why the game demands the price it does. It's a great shooter.

PartnerNet has more loose lips than a
over
70's porn movie.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
I'd love to get excited about this, but in reality...vert shmups + widescreen display = not a lot of fun.

I'd kill for a TATE'able 50" plasma tho. :drools:

When the hell did Ikaruga get to be such a giant deal? I mean, shooter releases on more platforms are always a good thing, but it's out already on both Dreamcast and Gamecube. Have those releases suddenly become incredibly scarce or something?

i'd love to see how they're optimising it for a widescreen display. i mean, i used to tate my flat panel monitor when i was playing it on the cube, but i can't exactly tate my 50 inch widescreen set. guess i'll just have to scoot a bit closer.

This can't fail in any way at all if its released, if not emulated you got the game, if emulated you also got a gamecube or dreamcast powered emulator, and if its the later then omg

This would completely rock. Hopefully Sega releases a 360 Virtua Stick so games like this can be played properly. Plus for paperboy.

Mmm nah I'd more say the price comes from a lethal combination of actual scarcity with years of slobbering praise from game journalists and Treasure fanboys.

I found nothing enjoyable in playing it. The ship moves 100 times too slowly. The only way to figure out which parts of the background are harmful to you is after the fact. Being able to freely choose 6 gun types mean nothing when they're all gimped in some fashion. The game rewards you for choosing which ships to shoot and penalizes you for trying to simply shoot everything, which last I checked is the goddamned point of a shooter.

I had RS years ago. Someone wanted it and had an Intellivision. We traded and both got what we wanted.

Oh I'm actually fine with Ika by the way. At least the ship doesn't move like it has a pole wedged in its ass on that one.

The fewer consoles you have to have plugged in to the TV the better it is. DC games on XBLA would be awesome. And the disc held like 1 gig of data so the downloads wouldn't be worse than some of the newer demos. Ikaruga, Powerstone, Chu Chu Rocket on XBLA. Make it happen MS! :)

Very, very nice if true - I still got my Dreamcast, and this is one of the top games that I don't own...

I'm glad we're getting classics like Root Beer Tapper and Paperboy over Ikaruga

Quality post as always...

It becomes a big deal because we are getting bad stuff like Root Beer Taper and Paperboy on XBLA.

Silvergun isn't scarce at all.
I stand corrected.

There are an overwhelming abundance of copies of Radiant Silvergun in the world - your local thrift store might have one or two laying around; check in the used sofa cushions.

The ebay premium comes from people whose zeal to acquire the game is only exceeded by their paranoia of the outside world and their income. Clearly this is why each copy that goes on auction is bid to such high amounts.

If this comes out... I'm going to say right now that I won't rebuy it, but I'll probably rebuy it anyway.

And then I'll realize that the scoring just isn't for me and I really don't like the game that much.

all over again

Eh, it really is time for me to give it another chance, and my Dreamcast is miles away, so bring it on.
