I'm starting to have convulsions while playing games.

Started around 4 months ago, but they were very mild, short and seemed to happen only when I was very tired or drunk. I've had a busy last few months, and as a result haven't been able to game very much at all, but recently I've been able to allocate myself some time to playing games, and I've noticed that it's seemingly gotten worse. Just today I got them so bad when playing Shovel Knight (great game btw) I had to turn the game off because they were getting to the point where I was convulsing for 5ish seconds and then when they stopped I'd look back at the screen and be super disoriented ludically, having no idea where I was or what I was doing in the level. The second time this happened to me, in the span of about 2 hours of play, I got scared and quit playing the game for fear of me having a full blown seizure.

Prior to a few months back the only history with seizures I had was due to something irrelevant when I was a year old, and to the best of my knowledge I have no family history of epilepsy.

So yeah, this is kinda got me pretty frightened...thinking I should go to the doctor if it gets any worse and/or happens again.

Seems like you have have epilepsy. Are you playing different types of games lately? Maybe with many flashing colors?

PS: You have to stop gaming until you see a doctor!

Why post on gaf? We aren't doctors. Hell, most people here can barely string a sentence together. Go see a doc.

Well, and I really didn't want to start this argument, but I lost my health insurance benefits about a month ago and I can't really afford to go if it's something serious, so I'm honestly really afraid to go because I don't want it to end up being something serious and me having to put a lot of financial hardship on my family that they can't afford to have right now. Hence the thread. I thought it'd be easier to make the right choice if I had some positive reinforcement to tell my ass to do the right thing.

Epilepsy.

You'll have to stop gaming until you get help regardless.

This is one step up from "my house is on fire, what do" posts.

Get to a doctor.

Yeah the cost might suck but this is something that could be really serious. See a doctor ASAP.

Move to Australia, enjoy free health care. But seriously, if you can somehow get to a doctor that is the best course of action.

Well talk to them first. Epilepsy can be fucking serious untreated and can build up in people. I think they'd go through worse hardships if something terrible were to happen.

The last thing you need to be concerned about is cost right now. Also, I'm sure there are options out there to help with cost in emergencies

A medical bill or two isn't going to kill you, but not going to see a doctor might. You can always pay whatever off over time.

The thing is you really can't mess with your health, I'm sure if you spoke with your family they would say the same thing as the folks here on GAF, and that would be to see the doctor.

As difficult as it is, ignoring stuff like this is never a recipe for anything good :-/

I feel your pain, but your well being should be the priority here. It sounds serious, and Im sure your family will agree with us all. Nothing is more important than you being alive for your family. So I give you all the positive reinforcement you need to get going.

Money is secondary to your life dude. Always. Fairly confident in saying your family would agree.

If it is epilepsy, then the majority of treatment will simply be to avoid things that trigger it. If you start feeling odd then just stop, immediately. But you have to go get it checked out.

Holy fucking shit, get to the doctor now.

And if you must watch TV or play a videogame do it in a well lit room, sit far away from the screen and take 30 minute breaks.

Or most of the rest of the civilised world. But yes, SEE A FUCKING DOCTOR. And then ask your government for what we take for granted.

Damn dude go see a doctor. If that happened to me ONCE i'd be there the same day.

Hopefully it's a simple fix and may not be anything serious. I know I've had a history of migraines in the past that have had a weird effect although not as bad you described.

Could be something as simple as dehydration or a vitamin imbalance. You'd be surprised what small things can really effect your overall health.

... but not wanting to put the fear of god into you, I lost a brother in law to epilepsy/seizure a few years ago so my advice is to not put a monitory value on your well-being. Also I'd stop gaming for a while. Games will still be there, waiting for you when you return.

This is terrifying. I'm so glad I live in the UK. Still, go see a doctor!

Don't play when you are tired
Don't play in the dark
Take 10 minutes rest every hour
Make some more space between you and your screen

Go see a doc

Sorry for your financial burdens, but you really gotta get that checked out. Especially if you drive a car.

I smell a troll. "gee I'm having convulsions (for any reason) what should I do about it?" the answer is obvious, as many in this thread have replied similarly if not identically.

OTOH, if I've misjudged you I'm sorry. and for god's sake, get to a doctor.
