Any games you're looking to pick up in the fall/winter sales that'll be popping up soon? I don't know if Ultimate General: Civil War will get a discount, but I'm definitely want to grab that, and then I'm hoping Rogue System gets a nice sale

And let's get to page 3

Not a recent game but I'll probably pick up Superhot in the xmas sales, been meaning to play that for ages. That and Brigador which looks pretty cool. Probably loads more on the list I haven't thought of just yet :p

Sounds like a great time. One day, I hope to check out one of these indie conferences and expos. PAX East would be easy, Boston is only three hours away.

NYU also has a really active Game Center, and they do game showcases and events every week. As expected a lot of talented students there; Soft Body was a project from one of the teams there. That's another thing I'd like to check out

I did not have time to write about the second day, but it was a great experience as well.

IndieCade Europe has been a really enjoyable 2-day event, and the crow was very friendly. Lots of cool stuff to see, talk and hear about.

I was at IndieCade Europe for the second day.

There was a nice talk by Audrey Leprince (Furi) about the choices made by the studio after each of their previous releases. Each of the game the studio has made so far has received positive reviews and praises, but managed just enough to break even. It turns out they fled from mobile because they did not want to (and could not) do freemium, which is the most successful business model on mobile these days. With Furi, they accepted to be featured by Sony on PS+, so that the game would be free for a month for PS4 owners at the same time of the release. It is a bold compromise (great visibility but no revenue) which might have hindered the sales on PS4 and PC. They will release the game on Xbox One in 15 days, and they will discount the game on Steam (as expected). She talked about 30,000 units sold on Steam so far. She also talked briefly about the next game, which should be i) a love story, ii) with the end of the story shown as soon as the game starts.

There was also an amazing talk by Michel Ancel (Rayman, Beyond Good & Evil, UbiArt), who is incredibly sympathetic and humble. What I did not know about Beyond Good & Evil 2 is that he deliberately put the project on hold because the consoles in 2008 were not powerful enough for his ambitions for the game. Crossing my finders to see the project go live with our current hardware, or maybe the next-gen of consoles.

I have also been able to try the Oculus on two games: 1) flying as a bird in a Minecraft-like environement, with Fugl, which gives good sensations of speed, and 2) "escaping a room" in I Expect You To Die, which was all the more impressive that there were some hardware for the hands which could recognize the movements of the hands in space, movements of the thumb, index finger, and other fingers as a group. Given that the game also recognizes the position and orientation of the body in the room, it felt really magical.

Edit: I forgot to mention: Psychonauts VR is amazing. I could not try it but watched the demo by Anna Kipnis (DoubleFine) and wow.

My only complaint is that the last episode is too short.

I would agree with this. It also railroads you a bit which is less fun. But I'm looking forward to replaying it and seeing different outcomes, which I never do with these sort of games.

Here are notable games at each tier. I'd say Capsule, Expand, Catacomb Kids, Four Sided Fantasy, We Are Doomed, Particle Mace, Sokobond, and A Good Snowman are all great titles, and more than make the top tier worth checking out.

Pioneers
Capsule

$8 and up
Blitz Breaker
One Show Only
Earthtongue
Arms of Telos (made by a GAFfer too)
Expand
Strawberry Cubes

$20 and up
Catacomb Kids
Read Only Memories
Four Sided Fantasy
Particle Mace
Sokobond
A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build
The Novelist
Orion Trail
We Are Doomed
Gone Home
Proteus

Not sure if this is the right thread to post this but recently there was an event streaming on twitch where they played this game that was side scrolling think Mario bros but competitive.
So one persons goal is to run to the right to reach the end but the other players goal is to kill him and run to the left to reach the goal with obstacles and each time the killed player spawns with another chance to kill the opponent and run to their goal again.

Anyone know what game this is and where it's available?
Had a strange name and I have no idea what it is.

Worth mentioning:
100% of the proceeds from this bundle will be split 50-50 between the ACLU ( American Civil Liberties Union) and Planned Parenthood.
That's nice.

Also, Vectorpark's Windosill in the $8 tier is great. I haven't played their newest, Metamorphabet, which is also in that tier.

Random question, where do they list steam keys on Itch.io? I brought that bundle and a few of the game say on their individual store pages that they give out keys on purchase but I can only find links to the drm free versions.

It seems that by default, Steam keys are not included. That may change for particular games.

Wow - started Oxenfree yesterday and finished it tonight. I'm a little confused how I got to the ending I did, but overall I really enjoyed the experience. Feel a little bad for taking this long to play it!

what - now i'm slightly terrified at what to expect. I briefly launched it and as Ren started his story, one of my first dialog options was
"this all sounds so familiar"
It elevated Oxenfree to one of my favorite games of the year. The walk-n-talk dialogue and the way they implemented a New Game Plus into a narrative adventure are the most innovative additions since the Walking Dead revitalized the genre

If you're wondering why I've been relatively quiet in this thread for the last few days, it's because I'm almost 40 hours into Witcher 3

Toma

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...

I finished Orwell. Everyone should play it, as Wok said the last episode is shorter than the others but at least there is an explanation to it. That game made me think about what I should choose, and I made a lot of bad decisions, though I think I redeemed myself at the ending.

The game is definitely in my GOTY top 10 contenders. It made me think.

I'm glad everyone is liking Orwell. Definitely in my top ten this year. I enjoyed the story itself but also how it made me examine the way I played the game.

The more you play it like a normal adventure game, (IE, clicking all the things) the more you can separate yourself from the fates of the characters. It wasn't until chapter 3 that I felt ashamed because Nina died due to my actions and it wasn't until the finale when the characters themselves called me out directly that I realized the brilliance of the game and how it depicts just how easy it is to get lost in the "job" of what you're doing, just like many NSA agents probably do.

I just finished Inside

The atmosphere and visual storytelling were great, but I found it hard to find a cohesive story in there.
Why were people running away from the blob, but at the same time helping it, at the same time trying to trap it? I appreciated the "fill in the blanks" but at the same time, so much is left up to interpretation that I feel like I'm the storywriter. Not really what I wanted from the game.
. Glad I got to play it though, was short and sweet.

Come by the spoiler thread. There are quite a few clues and stuff in the background that hint at a potential narrative

What was the name of that game where you play as the grim reaper, and you take out various monsters in a Gunpoint-like environment with firearms and the ability to teleport through vents?

Gorogoa announced for spring.

Annapurna Pictures, the production company behind ZERO DARK THIRTY, HER, and SAUSAGE PARTY, has expanded its operations with the creation of Annapurna Interactive, a division entirely dedicated to producing and publishing video games.

Annapurna Interactive is set to publish two games targeting Spring 2017 release dates: Jason Roberts’ Gorogoa and Giant Sparrow’s What Remains of Edith Finch. Gorogoa, by Jason Roberts, is a beautifully hand-illustrated story suspended inside a puzzle with a unique mechanic where the player moves panels on a grid as though arranging framed drawings on a wall. What Remains of Edith Finch, developed by Giant Sparrow, is a playable collection of short stories, each with different art styles and gameplay mechanics centered around the cursed Finch family.

As part of its growing portfolio, Annapurna Interactive will also release games from highly regarded industry talents, including San Francisco-based developer Funomena and Creative Director Keita Takahashi, creator of the Katamari Damacy franchise, and Mountains, which is led by Ken Wong, best known for his work on Monument Valley.

The new publisher will be run by a team of game veterans whose credits include Journey, God of War, Mortal Kombat, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Flower, and Fat Princess.
