A narrative strategy game eh? The narrative game ideology is starting to bloom a little in the board game scene with recent legacy style games like Pandemic Legacy, Seafall and more recently Near and Far. I wonder if this is going to be something similar to one of those type of deals with all digital like.

Kingsway came out yesterday, I remember reading/listening to really positive impressions of it earlier in the year when it was at PAX. Seems really cool.

I know this isn't exactly on topic since the two Indie games I'm about to bring up aren't from this year I don't think. I'll delete if its seen as too much of a derail.

So I absolutely fell in love with Spelunky the second time I picked it up. I hated having to start from the very beginning but then once I discovered the tunnels and what you need unlock them. Ending up playing it to death.

Just recently I started playing Downwell and damn is it an awesome game, I like the upgrades and the strategy, and also how simple it seems at first glance, but the more you play the more you realize it is a very well crafted game.

My question is are there any other games along the same vein? Semi quick game sessions, easy to pick up, but not the easiest to master. Graphics are a complete non issue for me all, in fact I often find more simple looking games better,

I cannot thank you enough! Looks like I got some games to be playing.

Edit: Decided to start right at the top without looking into any of the others. Awesome so far and it was exactly the type of game I was looking for. This one in particular reminds me a bit of Spelunky which is a great thing.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...

Towerclimb is really awesome. I'm so bad at it right now but I feel like you just end up getting a lot better over time. Also Rogue Legacy is gonna have me addictive with all those upgrade and armor.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know anything about Super Cloudbuilt? I think it's coming out on PS4 and Xbox next week and looks pretty cool.

Cloudbuilt was pretty nifty, with some cool movement/action mechanics and interesting level design. Not sure what the super version adds, but I cant imagine the game got worse.

Sundered is getting close too. I'm excited for it but may wait to see how it reviews to decide if I jump in right away. There's something about it that looks a bit off to me that I can't quite put my finger on.

I finally finished Wuppo and I absolutely loved it. At first sight the art style my bother but as I played through the game it grew on me. The game starts with a very simple plot with the protagonist being thrown out from his apartment and wanting to get back in. As the game progress you start discovering more about the world, the different races living there and how they interact between themselves.

The combat is simple, with you just shooting the enemies but it's not the focus of the game even though it has various bosses battles.

One thing that the game does really well is the world feeling alive like the weather changing, day and night cycles and you needing to wait in lines.

The last time I posted about the game I was still in the middles of it and all I had to say was praise, having finished I keep my instance as before, had I played it past year Wuppo could easily be in my GOTY list because I enjoyed it a lot.

It's currently the Alpha build, there's already a page on Steam with the release set for October 2017, since it's in alpha I think the game is getting to be released as a early access title.

Blackhole is coming to PS4 in early August. Seems like a fun mix of platform and puzzle with a surprisingly deep story. I might pick it up. Hopefully it ends my lack of motivation to play games lately...

Anyone played it (it was released early 2015 on pc)?

I read good stuff about this game, and I have played the demo on Steam. You can try it too:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/322680/BLACKHOLE/

It was okay, but the mix of platformer and puzzles make it a bit too difficult to my tastes, because, if I remember right, I could not really tell whether I failed at platforming or puzzle solving, and ended up repeating the same mistakes and being frustrated.

Oh wow, this looks amazing. Though I have to wonder if this means the Environmental Station Alpha sequel has been shelved for the time being. If I recall correctly ESA was a one man project, and it looks he's doing a lot of the pixelart and design for this.

I am the level designer for the game so I guess I know a couple of things. :)

We've rewritten the entire code for movement control so that it should feel a lot better as well as work much better with controllers this time for our console release.
I've done a passover on all levels and done improvements on them, even scrapped one or two that didn't feel right and rebuild them from the ground up. Also improved the graphical assets of the levels to make them look better and more distinct.
We have now a whole new way of selecting levels instead of through a menu that should feel more atmospheric.
Added new options for less hardcore players so that more people can play through the game.
And a bunch of other things, it's not a completely new game, but it is an improvement on the original based on feedback we got and wanted to address.

Hope that answers the question. :)

I can't believe how good Dead Cells is. Doesn't feel like an EA game and it is owning my life rn. It pulls so much together juuust right, and the controls are godlike.

I normally stay away from EA games, but I am SO glad I jumped the gun on this one. The gameplay loop is so satisfying that replayability won't be an issue for me for a loooong time, and I will gladly double dip on a Switch version.

Everyone should play this gem. It's a GOTY contender already imo, and that's saying something in 2017. I stopped playing BotW because of this motherfucker (and I LOVE BotW.)

It's also very pretty.

Dead Cells looks and sounds awesome.

I have a bunch on my wishlist but I'm trying to be good for a couple of months.

I pre-purchased Destiny 2 like a sucker and grabbed Fortnite so my gaming funds are limited...

Having said that, how is Pyre?

  1. The End is Nigh
  2. Pyre
  3. Kingsway

Guys can anyone help me identify an indie RPG? I can't for the life of me remember the name of it, but it had almost PS1 style graphics and the whole thing was heavily steeped in 90's nostalgia. I think it was confirmed for Steam and Switch.

Unrelated to that, Hollow Knight looks so good. Not seeing what sets it apart from the glut of other Metroidvania games aside from aesthetics, but I don't even care. Already feeling the itch to buy and play it, but just holding out for the Switch version to finally drop.
