Saying it's more powerful than PS4/Xbone when one is already ~40% more powerful than the other is very weird wording. Which one is it?

We need a detail and oriented leak of the specs right down to the innerards of this thing. Saying it's going to be as powerful or more powerful than console X is useless unless we get leaked specs...blueprints specifics upon specifics!

I know of this person and they don't really seem like the type to outright lie, but also not the type to get a bunch of insider info either.

I thought the nx was based on a system where you could increase the power of the system by adding multiple modules? It was very akin to cloud computing.

Nintendo's last box didn't even allow 3rd parties to easily port over X360 and PS3 ganes, like any sane person would've expected, due to going cheap on the memory and CPU. It's no wonder they "shaft" Nintendo when Nintendo phones in efforts like that.
A lot of developers have said it was easy to port last-gen games to Wii U.

It's not news that Nintendo hasn't been on the good side of third-parties since the N64. But at least a lot of niche games were made for Wii despite its power (thanks to its install base).

nintendo really needs to release a console thats easy to develop for, because im not seeing developers scratching their heads to port games to a console with a small audience

i dont know man, last time i check all the games ported to wii u or run like shit or didnt have almost any advantage over ps360 games

They have a patent for that but whether or not they really end up using that technology is anybody's guess.

I guess when the tweets say technically more power and optimized for gaming is that if you develop the game well enough on the NX, it is possible to get more out of it than the XB/PS4. I guess more unlocked power instead of like the PS4/XB where an amount of resources like a certain amount of CPUs is not available for games or some amount of RAM is reserved for the OS.

That makes sense. If you feel the thread should be locked for any particular reason, then feel free to do so. (I apologize in advance.)

For what it's worth, she is usually in regular contact with people who handle indie relations at companies like Nintendo and Microsoft. And she does talk to a lot of indie developers who may or may not be in a position to have NX dev kits in their possession. That was the main reason I posted the thread.

(Although, that doesn't mean she's right on this rumor either.)

If she works within the industry, then it wouldn't be hard to believe that she's heard rumblings from other people/friends who also work within the industry. Hell maybe she's been told something by Nintendo directly and hasn't been able to say anything yet (NDA).

But then again that one Journalist from GI heard something from someone about the NX controller not having any buttons, but that turned out the be bullshit ( I think?).

We have plenty of stories from devs complaining about the cpu in the WiiU making it difficult to port PS3/360 games.

Deus Ex, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, Need for Speed, Call of Duty, etc... there's not a lot of third-party support, but what's there doesn't run badly unless you try really hard to screw it up. Does it have advantages? Depends on the budget of the port.

I ain't defending the Wii U's third-party line-up by the way. It's the fault of the third-parties for bad budgets and poor development time. I can tell you that no one is putting serious money into Wii U development.

The leaked controllers were bullshit, but the GI guy could still be right in the end.

I should hope so, the ps4/xb1 are several years old now.

To be fair, since the shift between process nodes has slowed down significantly, it's not like much has actually changed between the release of the PS4 and XBONE to now. We've only just gone from 28nm (which the PS4 and XBONE are on) to 14/16nm, and honestly the performance per watt gains from that jump are moderate at best. So that means Nintendo would have to be on the bleeding edge to really eek out a measurable performance advantage at a similar silicon and thermal budget. Otherwise if Nintendo just settles for mature node, like they normally do, they'd be on the same 28nm node as the others which will physically limit what they can do.

Just one example. She knew Dan Adelman (Nintendo's former indie guy) very well when he was working at Nintendo. She use to talk to him all of the time about Nintendo's indie relations.

And after Adelman left Nintendo, she interviewed him.

Max TDP for the Wii U is 30W if I remember right, versus 150W for the PS4/Xbox One. With Nintendo focusing on bringing together their handheld and console it makes absolutely no sense to go from 30W to 150W. They have also shown no signs that they're interested in the audience that plays games like Destiny or The Division.

Just seems like wishful thinking to me, from people expecting the NX to be something Nintendo hasn't made since the Gamecube. Just enjoy Nintendo's console for their games and get a PC/PS4/Xbox for that other stuff.

"Easy to develop for" has been something thrown around for every system released after the PS3. Is it even quantifiable by this point?

But what about the XBox 1.5 or the PS4K? Lol
that is why a xb1.5 and ps4.5 exists. nintendo is going all in on their NX platform. i imagine they will have the SCDs too. they also been hinting at going to a more apple like structure. so maybe we will see new nx devices every 2 or 3 years.

hence sony and ms doing the same.

No no no. You increase power by taping more Gamecubes to the side.

Easy to develop for doesn't really matter that much for indies, to be honest. 70% of indies are on Unity, 25% are on Unreal, and 5% have weird delusions of grandeur, as far as I'm concerned. As long as those engines support it, no one will see much difference.

Daaamn, I really hope so. I'll gladly ditch my PSVR preorder if the NX delivers.

Has anyone ever said a new console is hard to develop for?

And more than one way to control? Since the Wii every single console has had more than 1 way to control it. Motion controls, cameras, sensors, moves, kinects, pro controllers, gamepads, joysticks, wheels, etc etc etc.

Shitty rumors.

Didn't Wii U not support Gamemaker easily? Maybe they added support for it.

XB1.5 and PS4K really have no bearing on anything with the NX. They really offer nothing more than the same software running a bit better than their 1.0 counterparts.

They are basically the very thing gamers have been bitching about for years that consoles should never do but suddenly will be widely accepted.

Like I said in another thread, if it's on par with PS4/Xbone, then clearly the third parties will target PS4.5/Xbox1.5 and point out the NX is still way too weak.

You seem pretty sure about something that wouldn't make a lick of sense.
