Inside the secret world of Nintendo

Toma

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
LINKS POTENTIALLY NOT SAFE FOR WORK AS THERE MIGHT OCCUR PORN POPUPS, I plan on revising this later and am probably going to change the image uploader to tinypic. Please bear with it for the moment.

Over the course of several threads which might not look like it we saw quite a few interesting pictures related to Nintendo. Mostly related to concept art and early screenshots (you know the things that make you "Wow. This is how it looked like before?") there are also other very interesting insights on what the secret world of Nintendo looks like.

The reason for compiling a new thread for these pictures are:

1. Giving these pictures the attention they deserve. Searching for hours through the internet yielded quite few results regarding the pictures/booklets/information you are going to see in this thread, with the most interesting certainly being the "Nintendo Pamphlet" 2009 scanned and uploaded by mehdi_san, now to be seen here complete and in high resolution.

2. To have a place to collect all these kinds of information as there is no kind of database for these information yet. There is probably a lot of more of these things out there and there are surely quite a few Gaffers which might be able to contribute with some interviews they have bookmarked or pictures they saved.

Lets collect and share everything about those secrets!
Things I can think (there might be more) of which are to be included in this thread:
- Concept Art
- Early Screenshots
- scrapped Logo/hardware/case designs
- Pictures of Nintendo as a work place
- Interviews
- and whatever else comes to mind

Everybody is free to suggest new names for these categories. I am currently thinking about whether to include artwork or not, as it will probably be on of the biggest categories and could very fast turn into the problem that everyone is posting artwork they love without checking the 1000's of already posted ones. This could get slightly contra-productive. HOWEVER if you know of a certain rarely published artwork you would like to share you are free to post it as these things are still very interesting and possibly not well known enough.

Click the link if you are interested in what has been linked. The Pictures are supposed to be only an example of what you might find in the link.
Things we have so far:

Nintendo Pamphlet:

A small book for the recruitment of new employees at Nintendo for this year. Every company here in Japan makes these kinds of pamphlets to attract universities students to apply for a job at their company. These things come out yearly and we would love to have them all gathered here. If anyone has one of those, please share it with us.

Oh and if anyone is up for creating a banner for this thread, I'd take it when its finished :)
And as you all can see the OP is clearly not yet finished. And I probably won't update it further today as I need to do some other stuff. I guess I need to overthink the whole concept of this OP to as it clearly gets too long. I'll probably only link everything I am putting in the OP sooner or later.
There are a lot of gold coins to collect which might be interesting for this thread. There are other Nintendo World Handbooks, other Nintendo Pamphlets and thousands of interesting interviews. Lets get it all together :)

2nd post grab.

I am especially looking for concept art and Nintendo Documents as the free Nintendo Pamphlets given out by Nintendo every year. Pleeeeease share them.

Nintendo World Handbook 2006:

This is an excellent idea. I've followed the other threads, but I'm excited to see what new stuff people show up with for this one!

A compilation of all of the Iwata Asks would be pretty nice, I think.

Cosmonaut X is working on it.

Pretty interesting stuff. I wanna see the secret world of Sony and MS as well. Someone infiltrate their base and upload the goods.

Wasnt there just a thread and entries on most major blogging sites a couple weeks back of the original Zelda map concepts, hand drawn? That should certainly be added. I think it was part of the Iwata asks stuff, which someone already mentioned above.

And great OP and idea!

Nice!

Why didn't you put up the Pokemon things by the way? People flip out over those.

Everything from those threads is going to be added. But it takes a whole lot of time creating these OP galleries. Not sure whether I find the time today. If anyone wants to help reposting the pics from the other thread is somewhat a necessity, since there are always people reading the thread, not the updated OP.

It's probably too late to mention it, but: the links are NSFW.
Imageavenue has porn ads, don't forget that!

Sometimes pop-unders from stuff like Live Jasmin and Adult Friend Finder come up for me.

Strange as I dont have any pop up blocker and had no popups after clicking on 100 images.
If other Gaffers experience the same problem, I'd go the extra mile of changing every link to tinypic URL's. But please make sure this is really a problem since this would be a full load of work.

I got a pop-up with only the first link I clicked (and recall the same in the last thread), but didn't wait to see what loaded.

Oh man, tell me he's not putting together a PDF compilation of Iwata Asks....that would just about be the sweetest thing ever and required reading for fans of videogames. :lol :lol

Sigh. Well I am going to update that later. For now a NSFW Warning needs to be enough.

Yup he does.

Further to a post upthread, I've been working on compiling all Iwata Asks interviews to date into a single PDF for ease of reference. It's going to be a little while longer in the making, but if it's of interest I'd be happy to upload it somewhere for download (can't see a problem here - the interviews are free to download, and simply reformatting and repackaging them in PDF as a free download shouldn't cause any difficulties) when it's done.

On the same note, does anyone have a complete list of the IA pieces posted on the UK/US sites, and a list (and translations?) of the ones on the NCL site? My count so far is:

Ethnicity is not a race!
Careful, Toma. While most of the stuff that you're posting is pretty harmless, you show a picture of someplace within the inner bowels of NintendoCorp, or happen to show notes from a game or hardware that is or was recently in development, you could find yourself... in an unfortunate situation.

I mean, yes, we all joke about how shiny, happy Nintendo has ninjas that will make you disappear rather abruptly.

However, if there's one videogame company that I would NOT want to have displeased with me... it would be Nintendo.

I'll be extra careful when sneaking out of Iwata's bedroom next time.

These booklets are available at universities in Japan I think. Just to show people what kind of 'dream work environment' Nintendo is. The other artwork is from various interviews and Iwata Ask's you won't get anything new but it is cool to see what concepts they've made for their shipped titles.

"Just internal promo material"? On which blessed side of this planet do you live? I never had the chance to look at those pics in the Nintendo Pamphlets. If you, with all your wisdom, have any possibility of letting me know where we can find the other complete Nintendo Pamphlets be sure to let us know.

I love this stuff. I saw most of this in that one thread but the Super Metroid map is worth owning on it's own.

Yeah well one of the major points for creating this thread was to gain more attention. I hope more Gaffers share the pics they found this way.

How big would an original download be of ALL OF THIS?

Well all pics in this thread are right now approximately 16mb :lol

Somebody invent a machine to turn me Japanese. I want to work for Nintendo. Such creativity and charm that goes into their products.

-edit- And I get a live jasmin sex cam pop=up for every damn link I click. Not sure if it's a bad thing though...

What a great thread. Can't wait for the Iwata Asks compilation; I truly feel those are the best interviews in the business, especially if you're any sort of student of this industry. Puts so-called journalists to shame each and every time.

Imagine having a place we could go that delivered content of that quality with an expanded scope covering the entire industry? Pipe dream.
