On November 12, an explosion ripped apart buildings at an Iranian missile base near Bid Kaneh. Although it remains unclear whether the site was sabotaged or -- as Iranian officials claim -- merely damaged in an accident, new images have emerged showing the the base before and after the explosion.

The Institute for Science and International Security issued a statement on the blast, noting that it occurred "as Iran had achieved a major milestone in the development of a new missile."

The Guardian reported that the blast was so powerful it rattled windows in Tehran, 30 miles away. 17 Revolutionary Guards were killed, including Major General Hassan Moghaddam, the "architect" of Iran's missile program.

According to AFP, a Guards spokesman said the explosion happened as "ammunition was taken out of the depot and was being moved outside toward the appropriate site." However, General Moghaddam's brother reportedly told an Iranian newspaper that the blast occurred during testing of an intercontinental missile.

Some have speculated that Moghaddam, who was instrumental in Iran's missile program, was targeted by Israel's intelligence agency Mossad. According to The Guardian, "Western officials would not comment on the claims, but would not rule out Israeli involvement." A Western intelligence source warned Time Magazine not to heed Iran's claims that the explosion was accidental. "Don't believe the Iranians that it was an accident," he said.

But what was the explosion today?

Those Mossad are some badass mofos. I remember reading a detailed article on that assassination they did last year or whatever. God damn.

Boy, that's an exceedingly large accident. Maybe they should let the IAEA help them with safety procedures.

I wonder if Iran is just gonna play this shit off. I mean anything the leads to war is basically the end of their run running the country right? Wouldn't they rather stay in power and pretend like nothing happened.

Israel have been doing a number on these fools for the past year now, all covertly. Quite brilliant really.

At this point Iran is all over the place, I am curious as to what they are going to be doing in the next few weeks.

Wonder what that recent explosion was, then.

Its hard to distinguish between accidents and actual strategic bombings but there have been car bombings of certain Iranian military figures throughout the year, the stuxnet malware and now these bombings of certain facilities.

Sounds pretty dangerous to me.

Israel sees Iran's continued development of their nuclear program as dangerous.

As does much of the free world. So.....

IF this wasn't an accident, then isn't this really bad....?

No because Iran isn't going to do shit. As others have stated, they don't want war. This will be a game of cat and mouse. Iran may be set back a bit, they'll get close and something will happen until they do get a nuke. Then they'll just be like NK, use it for defensive purposes.

Except for the fact that Iran is run by religious nuts who have stated they'd like to wipe Israel off the map.

That is the key differentiation about Iran having a nuke, and all the other countries that currently have nukes. As we all know, religious nuts can be the most dangerous people, as they might think they've got a religious reason to do something crazy, that "god wants them to do".

THAT is why so much of the world does not want them to get a nuke.

Seriously. "We can set your program back by at least two years with the most sophisticated malware ever created. Also, we can just blow your shit right the fuck up. We have several options."

Except these religious nuts are also about survival, just like any ruler. They won't be using any nuke nor any bomb on Israel since they realize that doing so would equate to their own extinction. They can talk a big game but they're not doing anything. Sure, they may financially support groups against Israel but they'd never give a nuke nor use one themselves.

Is it not true?

Trust me, I'm far from being a big Israel supporter. This is just the truth, and it's exactly why most of the free world doesn't want Iran getting a nuke. Have you noticed that even countries that don't like Israel all that much, still agree on this point.

Why do you think that is?

I disagree. You would assume that is the case, but religious nuts are nuts. They're unpredictable.

Bin Laden was a religious nut but he was about survival. Why didn't he walk on to the planes on 9/11 and kill himself? Simply, he was more concerned with his own survival. The Mullah's of Iran, including the Ayatollah, are about survival. They're not going to do ANYTHING that would risk that. They'll do as much as they can to incur the least response from the international community. A nuke? They'd be dead quicker than you could say 'Mussad'.

Why do we still bring religious nuttery into discussions about having WMD's? No offense to anyone but the U.S.A has plenty of religious nuts in charge of WMD's and I see very little complaining about that.

Because when dealing with WMD's you have to ask yourself WWJD?

Honestly though, Iran as a government has more control over the actions of the country than Iran the religious front. It will not give up the minor strength it has gained in recognition by other countries in the world for the joy in taking out a few enemies.

If it was really an accident they would have blamed Israel. If really Israel they would claim it was an accident. I'm guessing maybe Israel did this.

Also, what was the timing between this explosion and the British embassy getting overrun?

17 days.

Edit: unless you're getting at that explosion yesterday.

And Pakistan isn't?

Plus, even if they're not 'religious' (The cult around the great leader is really just a religion) North Korea are hardly paragons of sanity, but as yet neither country have seen fit to use their nukes on say, India or South Korea, 2 countries that both most definitely would like to see wiped off the map.
