Knack was a big AAA first party launch exclusive? :pie_thinking:

(feel free to post Knack memes)

yea I'm 99.9% sure that was a launch game. I got that deal at Target where if you bought 2 new games, you got 1 free for next gen and of course I got Battlefield 4, Killzone SF and wanted Knack......they sold out of Knack (likely cause Sony sent in very few knowing it wouldn't be as big as Killzone). Holding out for Knack 3 lol

Crazy, its almost as if selling out doesn't mean something is wildly successful, simply that the store doesn't have any units as the publisher could have sent in very few....crazy

Kenpachii Kenpachii Nah, I wouldn't say all that. It questions why we have a difference of 115 million to 40 million... Someone is making that choice to go with one system vs the other for a reason.

Not the same game, its not even the same engine.

From RE2 and FFVII you are also talking about games that are from PS1, not from PS3. The gameplay in the Souls series is its main feature, it must actually support the standard concept, RE2 and FFVII's gameplay is more so conceptual, it can be altered greatly and still drive hope the main idea.
I appreciate the work wants been done but its the same. If i compare Fifa 2008 to Fifa 2020 its the same game as each other as in its football with nicer graphics and refined. I don' think i could say that about FFVII or RE2 in comparison to the old titles other than story.

Those are also games from PS1 to PS4.

The point you are making is moot....

As far as I can tell the big PS5 exclusive is supposed to be Demon's Souls?

My original point was that although PS2 didn't have many/any decent Sony exclusives at launch either it did sill have decent third party exclusives and therefore the PS5 launch isn't comparable to the PS2 launch.
but the question was big first party exclusive not third party. I know everybody likes demon souls but isn't it a remake? I am looking forward to MM Spiderman though

It was.

My point is, was it also big and AAA?

I'd have no issue calling it a AAA title, as the game simply doesn't fall in the indie category like Resogun or something. Its no Call Of Duty or Killzone, but most games are not, for the type of platformers that come out, in its respective genre...I'd have no issue saying its AAA.

But its the same game, football. Like DS is DS from 2008 with a new engine and graphics.

Nope. Same genre like same sport, but pretty sure Fifa from PS1 to now is not the same fucking game.

Different engine, different mechanics, assets, features, gameplay etc.

So DS from 2008 to its remake is a new engine, its also new assets, gameplay features etc.

Simply not the same things.

Yes, and same goes with AC Vallhalla or Watchdogs Legion. And well, looking at Spiderman sales, I bet Miles Morales is going to be huge on PS5 too.
I feel like immortals: fenyx rising will be very popular this Christmas amongst the young crowd and a good portion of everyone else who enjoyed Breath of the Wild.

True.

I wish I had the time to play it, but this fall is so packed. I can see that game doing well as a series.

Yeah, definitely feels like the start of a series of games...especially considering the "Rising" in the title. I'll be picking it up for Christmas along with a few more games.

Setting a bad precedent for what exactly?

Exclusives exist to keep people within a platform holders' ecosystem.
Microsoft have demonstrated time and time again recently that they're not interested in being a platform holder. They want to be a service provider.

There is a large and fundamental difference between the two.

Funny old game isn't it.

It is acceptable and no, it's not an issue.

This is the PS4 launch line up:

Sony Computer Entertainment WorldWide Studios Titles
Flower
Killzone Shadow Fall
Knack
Resogun
Sound Shapes

Third-Party Titles
Angry Birds Star Wars – Activision
Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag – Ubisoft
Call of Duty Ghosts – Activison
DC Universe Online – Sony Online Entertainment
FIFA 14 – EA Sports
Battlefield 4 – Electronic Arts
Just Dance 2014 – Ubisoft
Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Lego Marvel Super Heroes – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Madden NFL 25 – EA Sports
NBA 2K14 – 2K Sports
Skylanders SWAP Force – Activision

Indie Titles
Contrast – Compulsion Games
Pinball Arcade – FarSight Studios
Super Motherload – XGen Studios
Tiny Brains – Spearhead Games
Warframe – Digital Extremes

The best exclusive was a small game, Resogun, everything else was meh to bad.

The PS4 is my favorite console by far.... This bad launch (in my opinion) didn't affect it in the long run. The PS5 has at launch 1 exclusive that I care, that is Demon's Souls, a remake of a game that I completed 100% 3 times (Japanese, European and US versions) and even being incredibly well made, it's just a remake....

Is that acceptable?

Yes for me... The same way for the SX, that's not an issue.

Have any of the greatest launch games of all time ever been on a Playstation?

My personal list...
1) Wii Sports
2) Super Mario 64
3) Halo
4) Super Mario World
5) Sonic Adventure
6) Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader

Jumping Flash, Bouncer, and killzone: shadow fall I don't have nearly the legacies of those games.

So is it really an issue? Also I don't see any killer apps regardless of quality of the games that change that will be revolutionary and sell systems. my guess is that fortnite will be the most played game on these systems for a bit lol

This is probably the first Sony launch with 1st-party that'll actually be good beyond just being tech showpieces: for all the attention Killzone Shadowfall and Knack got at launch, they were poorly designed games (particularly Shadowfall) and not fondly remembered for their actual gameplay.

Miles Morales and Demon's Souls Remastered fit the bill of games that should be both visually impressive and with gameplay to stand the test of time (more or less), but also consider neither are 100% original games. One's essentially a DLC campaign expansion to a base game that had the bulk of its work set up years ago. The latter's a remake of a 13-year old game that, again, had the bulk of its design done way, WAY long back.

Not to knock on anything either of those games are doing but it just shows how much more impressive they'd be as launch titles if they were 100% being built from the ground-up as original experiences not leveraging from design templates of well-established games they're either expansions or remakes to.

Also I don't get this idea a launch is only good if it has AAA "bangers" there. One of PS4's best launch titles wasn't even AAA; it was Resogun, a very well-polished indie hit. A lot of PS4's early library was basically being propped up by really good indie games while it took a bit for actual next-gen AAA to start coming, and especially for Sony's 1st-party to really start hitting high marks, starting with Bloodborne (Second Son a bit less so).

MS's lineup may not have any exclusives with the brand identity of SpiderMan or Demon's Souls, but that doesn't mean they don't have some really good launch exclusives coming. Scorn and The Medium are two off the top of my head I can think of. Bright Memory Infinite is 2021 tho I believe, probably the same for Exo-Mecha, but those are two other strong ones. MS seems like they'll be following Sony's initial strategy from the PS4, but Sony is taking MS's early XBO approach of pushing on big AAA exclusives out of the gate.

But we saw how those strategies eventually panned out. This time I think MS more than has enough talent in place to keep their 1st-party AAA momentum going once they start dropping their releases. Sony has a fair amount of high-quality studios themselves but we can already tell some like Insomniac probably won't have a new release for a good 2-3 years from now, and hopefully none of their other studios suffer from the creative rot/burnout Naughty Dog went through with TLOU2 (which I think for a lot of people is probably the most disappointing sequel of the generation).

Actually isn't the Series X launching with 4K Gears 5? OP didn't say "new" game in the title so that should count lol.

Voted nothing wrong with it. At worse, it's disappointing but no biggie. PS, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, NES, Gamecube and Wii U had nothing at launch. Overall, not a big deal at all.

I have a 9 game list for November/December so im good as I will have plenty of games to play.

- Assassin's Creed Valhalla
- Bright Memory
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Gears Tactics
- Immortals Fenyx Rising
- Marvel's The Avengers
- Ori and the Will of the Wisps
- Watch Dogs Legion

It's more like 8 games since Bright Memory is an hour or two demo/prologue as Bright Memory Infinite is 2021. None of the above includes Wasteland 3, The Outer Worlds and the entire mainline Halo series that I have never played. So for me, I have a shit ton of games to play.

True but Quick Resume will only be used for one game as I play one game at a time until completion. My current gaming schedule is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, The Avengers and Watch Dogs Legion as the first 3 games that I will be playing. It's afterwards that becomes a question mark. Probably Bright Memory now that im thinking about it.

Yeah first party wise I don't think Sony ever really have a strong PlayStation launch.

Ironically I'd say the best first party launch they've ever had was PS3 with Motorstorm and Resistance and that launch ended up being a bit of a disaster for the PS3 (although that was def to do with the price rather than the software).

Cyberpunk is the only game Im getting for the rest of the year. Even when I bought the Switch with Mario Odyssey and Zelda I still felt like I jumped the gun because it was just two games. I have learned that it is just better to wait for 1 year. Console launches suck in general.

Now that consoles are backwards compatible, I'd much rather wait a few months post-launch for a great game, than to launch with a half-baked good game. I don't think it would really stop me pre-ordering so long as it offered some substantial upgrades on current gen stuff.
You make it sound like bc wasn't a thing in this generation

It's been so long, I can't even remember if I can put a PS3 disk into a PS4 or not.

I thought Xbox only had very limited back compat on release, and PS4 has zero.

A big majority of 360 games can be played on one, even with enhanced graphics. Even some of xbox games could be played on Xbox One.

So bc has been a full feature this gen depending on which platform you play on.

See the list here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_backward-compatible_games_for_Xbox_One

I needed Halo or Forza at launch to buy this day one. However, the bigger factor is not the lack of first party games. There are plenty of games that will be significantly improved over Xbox one (first and third party) for launch. For me, having an Xbox one X which already plays nearly all games at 4k, I need something more. If not for the midgen refresh, I’d be all over this. I think this is where we are at. More incremental updates, forward/backward capability. The step change from generations is no longer the same. On the upside, all our games and peripherals work moving forward. I think that’s a win.

Yeah but remember that fake video of gameplay for motor storm , was meant to be on PS3 but no way was it

Nah, I want our games to stay in the oven. I want to be blown away and the only thing I have seen so far that has done that is Hellblade 2 trailer. We got Game Pass to get us through 2021 and Halo Infinite so I am good. 2022 going forward is all about Xbox Studios.

oh they have psnow,i know that gamepass embassators and console warriors act like it doesnt exists, but its a decent equivalent at cheaper price

Apparently DS remake doesent count, because some people here have played it before on PS3. Nevermind that PS3 is a dead system and Demons is a 10 years old game very few have played.

Reminds me of when people said BOTW would not sell on the Switch because it was also on WiiU...

I think you misunderstood me.

What I mean is: it doesn't matter if the console gets a triple A exclusive at launch, if that game ends up being a freaking KZ SF.

I rather have a remake of a Ps3 game or a small budget game like Resogun, than a shitty AAA game.

So the SX not having a triple A exclusive game at launch, shouldn't matter and it is acceptable.

That's my opinion.

Also, if you think that I am downplaying Demon's Souls Remake... I am not.
