Is it confirmed that Splinter cell: Double agent will be released on PS3?

psycho_snake

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
The introduction of Splinter cell has been one of the greatest things that has happened this gen. The first one was great. the gameplay was breath of fresh air for gaming and especially the very limited stealth genre. the game had its faults, which didnt seem to be fixed in the second one, which was a shame, but Ubi got it spot on in Chaos Theory, which has to be one of my favourite game this gen. The slow camera and movement that was in the first was much more imporved, which created very enjoyable gameplay. What also made Splinter cell so great was Sam Fisher, who is arguably one of the coolest videogame characters.

Since Im not planning to purchase an Xbox360 anytime in the near future, i was hoping that I would get the chance to play Splinter cell on a next gen console, so i was hoping that it would be released on PS3. As far as I know the game will be released on PS2, GC, Xbox and Xbox360 but im not too sure about PS3. Does anyone know wether Splinter cell: DA release on PS3 has been confirmed, I really want to play DA on a next gen console without having to pay for another console.

Ubisoft hasn't announced any PS3 games at the moment. I don’t think a PS3 version is in development cause the director said he would love to work on it if it were in development or something along those lines.

I am hoping that Blazing Angels and Splinter Cell Double Agent come to PS3.

eeek.....Project Assasin is already announced for ps3.

gamespot have it down as a PS3 title, but they seem to be the only site that says it. Im just hoping that gamespot are right.

Well that sucks if there has been no official confirmation, although I do expect some news regarding Splinter cell: DA being released on PS3 sometime between now and E3.

Don't know, it could come out for PS3...

As for Project Assasins, that's not the final name of that product and has no platform. So it could come be multi-platform or it could probably be not multi-platforum. No one knows except for Ubisoft. :)

Has it been confirmed that Splinetr Cell: DA will be released on all the consoles which are currently released? i once heard a rumour that there were no plans for the game to be released on PS2, but that just sounded like BS.

They announced it for PS3 at TGS.

They also announced Killing Day at E3. It seems they're targetting launch with that one. Oh, and Brothers In Arms 3 is also confirmed for PS3.

Well if all those games have been announced for PS3, then there is a big chance that DA will be heading to PS3 too. All those other Ubi games look great, but I'd rather have just DA on PS3 than all those other games.

But from what I know it could be multi-platforum... I'm just spreading the good news for all multi-platform fans. :)

How could it not be on PS3?

If it's on PS2, a PS3 version may seem..redundant, not least to Sony. There was even a rumour going around that this was the case.

Of course, I mean I think Project Assassins at least has been confirmed for 360 also. Just saying that these games do have announced platforms.

Wouldnt the same thing apply if it was released on Xbox and Xbox360?

Ubisoft don't do exclusives do they? I mean Killing Day and Project Assassin have been announced for 360 and PS3 so I would expect Double Agent to get a release, possibly a "Special Edition"

Not necessarily given 360's BC situation.
Even so, a PS3 release would not be redundant because the game will look better on a stronger system and there are people who are willing to buy the PS3 version rather than the PS2 version because of that.

They do exclusives. Far Cry, Far Cry 360, Blazing Angels etc.

It would makes ense if DA was released on PS3 since all their other next gen titles are being released on both PS3 and Xbox360. It was probably never menioned before because PS3 was in the early stages whilst Xbox360 was close to being released.

farcry was eventually released on Xbox, just like Spliner cell was eventually released on PS2.

It would not surprise me if Sony was averse to tarted up ports of games that are on their previous system, that can even be played on PS3 (presumably). I don't know though, what their policy is, it just wouldn't surprise me. If I were Sony, I'd be wanting them to work on new titles for my next-gen system, not for my old system but with nicer graphics.

How do you "pay for another console" before the first one is released, or even priced for that matter.

If you are as interested in the game as you appear to be, maybe you've got some decision making to do.

think its down to the fact these games would struggle on PS2.

Far Cry would be so downgraded visually it just wouldnt do the game any justice.

Well releasing DA would mean greater profits for Ubi, gamers get the chance to play DA on a next gen console and i cant see how an improved port of a game on the PS2 could hurt sony. Its good for everyone really.

well i know im definately buying a PS3. i was talking about having to buy an Xbox360 just to play DA. So far DA has been the only game that has appealed to me on Xbox360, Its not worht having to buy another console just to play a next gn version of DA.

Probably. Xbox got a fair number of default exclusives (at least, console exclusives) by virtue of its technical superiority.

If all content on PS3 was simply ported up PS2 games, it'd tank ;) Maybe if a game like DA was originally a PS3 game ported down to PS2 it'd be a bit different (we did see a few PS2 games being ported down to PSone for a while, for example)

I don't think they're totally closed to these things, but I'm guessing you need to make a strong argument beyond just visuals - the game, I think, would have to be pretty significantly different.

Again, though, it's just my guess that Sony is going to prefer "natively" next-gen content, particularly when the PS2 is already enjoying natively current-gen content.

If PS3 is going to be released after DA is, then i can see Ubi adding in some extra content for the PS3 version which would satisfy most people and actually give another reason to release it on PS3 other than the game having improved graphics.

I just can't see ubi not releasing it on PS3. Ubi have released most of their games on PS2 such as beyond good and evil, the prince of persia franchise and the other SC games. They're also releasing their next gen titles on PS3 so its difficult to imagine that Ubi would not release one of their major franchises on PS3, wether the game is significantly improved or just graphically improved.

We'll be round to the next SC game by the time PS3 comes out, so i doubt it.
DA is scheduled to be released during Q4, which is around the time that PS3 is rumoured to be released.
