Is it possible to keep the creator a Web site completely private?

I have an idea for a Web site that I think meets a certain kind of content need that isn't being met. Just a blog.

I have never looked into this and I'm wondering if it is even possible to run a website and anonymously in this day and age. It used to be that a site owner could register and host with masked whois information. Is that even still possible?

There are companies who can register the site for you on their name, specifically to make the owner on the site anonymous. This is used all the time in (guerilla) advertising.

I can't believe there is a certain type of sexual content not being met on the internet already.

sure but it will still be linked to you in some way. Bluehost does offer domain privacy if i remember correctly.

set it up, then ask someone else to be the public face?

Though I don't appreciate the prudishness of your workplace if you have to ghostwrite a pornsite you make in your spare time.

if you register through dreamhost you can keep your whois info secret.

also, you can just use a wordpress blog or something and just have a name on there that is anonymous

It's certainly possible, but depending on where you live, it might be illegal. It's definitely illegal in Germany for example. Just something to keep in mind.

Why do you want to be anonymous?

It's just a quick idea I had for a recovery blog. Addiction recovery - with which I have some experience unfortunately. I want to elaborate on some of my experiences and I don't want people I work with to find out. Originally I said it may have some sexual themes and it could if I decided to talk about that part of my process. But you know, the first few posters couldn't control their quick wits, and so I took the fun parts out because apparently it was just way too much to handle. Lately on here it seems like on here it's a mad dash to the quickest quip with those first few responses. Some kinds of posts and posters just make mincemeat out of the most straightforward shit. Seems like it was a pretty dry question but I was getting avatar quoted by the time I checked it - the very first time. I don't think I had that strange a question.

Thank you, to those of you who replied. I really appreciate the help.

Then you should be ok with the general anonymity provided by hosters. They can't stop somebody determined(or law enforcement) from finding out who you are but it would be a stretch to think people at your workplace would connect the dots and go as far as to seek out the means to break the anonymity. Good luck.
