Is it possible to patch that piece of shit Devil May Cry 3 sold on Steam?

The patch installer can't find the game due to Steam and the way it installs games or something, and without the patch the game just sits at 640 x 480. I've tried running the patch installer in the same folder as the game, c+p'ing the game to a path with no spaces, tried both things etc. It seems as if the patch only works on the retail version.

I'm running windows 7 64 bits if it makes any difference. I don't think it does though.

I've got no idea, but it wouldn't surprise me if you can't patch it. DMC3 was released in the time when Capcom were doing some of the worst PC ports imaginable.

forgot to mention i tried both us and eur patches. i think mine is the eu version since the warning in the intro is in 5 languages instead of just english

should've used that money to wipe my ass, fucking capcom

Not to my knowledge, I got the game as a gift on my birthday, on disc.

And I finished it with a keyboard, beat that. The easy version of course.

From what I have read about the PC version it's not even worth playing, runs like a dream when emulated.

You would expect that a PC port would run better than the PS2 version emulated. The PC port was handled by Ubisoft so I guess that's where things went wrong.

Sorry about your troubles OP.

That's weird. I thought that Steam version was the patched version, actually. I have it, but I don't remember how to get it patched. If you actually installed a patch online, that may have screwed with the existing patch. Maybe try reinstalling the game?

Keep in mind, if you want to use a 360 controller, you'll need a combination of Joy2Key (or other remapping program), as well as rewriting one of the config files in the install folder. And unless your rig is really powerful, the game will chug without the removal of certain sound files... a list of which can be found online, but it is extensive.

DMC3 was before Capcom got their shit together with PC re-releases.

Anything regarding DMC3 on PC is going to be tough, but people with good rigs and have downloaded an ass-ton of stuff and patches have gotten it too run kind of okay (not quite 60 fps though, not sure.)

I personally would just wait and get the HD collection instead of deal with the headaches.

If you got DMC3, at least tell us that you picked DMC4 up, too. D:
i have it

i changed my monitor's resolution to have a 4:3 aspect ratio and then i could edit the game's resolution to something stupid like 1152 x 864

I investigated it on the Steam Forums when it was on sale, and apparently there aren't any fan patches that work with the Steam version. In other words, you're stuck with a terrible port. Glad I held off.

No patch "fixes" DMC3 PC. It's an awful mess no matter what.

However, there is a patch for some joystick functionality and resolution issues. And I believe that's already in the game.

You can get it to work correctly, but unless you have a powerful rig (yes, even by today's standards) and remove sound files, it won't stay at 60fps for you.

well i only saw it up till the second mission but it seems to be running fine on my machine and it looks like what you'd expect it to. the only real problem is the resolution as far as i can tell. i haven't tried my controller yet though

i recall seeing someone say you could hex edit it to have the right res. i should have bookmarked the page when i saw it. i'll see if i can try it later

Its your fault for buying that piece of shit port

You should have got it for PS2 and emulate it, or even better, wait for the confirmed HD collection /captain hindsight
