Is No Man's Sky still worth it?

I never really bought into the hype and I've seen the negative receptions to the game after its release but with its recent update I was wondering if now it's the time to jump in?

Thanks guys.

The update was decent and people liked it before the update but it just depends on if you like exploration a lot.

Give it four or five more updates on the level of the Foundation Update and then...maybe?

I'm waiting until Elite Dangerous is available instead, haven't played No Man Sky but mulled over the prospect a few times...

I didn't think base building would fit in well at all in a game that's all about exploration but I thought it was executed pretty well and added to the experience. That update added a lot of QOL improvements too.

edit: Forgot about Survival mode, too.

No not at all. Avoid at all costs unless several major content patches drop. Game is insultingly simple and shows it's seams very quickly. The best part of hopping from planet to planet but once that wears off the game has nothing to offer.

Haven't played it (and don't yet have a desire to based on all the hubub) but i'd highly recommend Astroneer if you're looking for something similar. Still in EA but it's $20 and a lot of fun!

There is a good 30 hours of discovery and upgrades in there that is worth the trip IMO.

Not full price though.

No. It's easily the worst game I've played this generation. Even after the update. It's conceptually broken to its core.

All depends what you wanna. If you like exploring different enviroments, just for relax, is cool. The base building you give things to do, but still kinda of pointless because the end game is not fun. I played around 100 hours because was in the mood for this.

I shouldda bought it when it was $20 during the holiday sales.

Bring that price point back for just like, a weekend or something, please.

If you just like the idea of exploring different planets and upgrading your gear then it's worth at least 15-20 hours of playtime. I haven't played the new update yet but if you like building then that could add the value to you.

The ability to fly from one planet out into space the touchdown on another planet seamlessly is really awesome the first couple times and still enjoyable even after I put in probably about 40 hours.

Games probably not very expensive anymore but I think it's worth it for at least 30 dollars but I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority.

Got it for my son for Christmas for £15, he's 10. We've both sunk hours into it. I wasn't expecting to get anything out of it, but it's been a super chill experience (on normal mode) and turns out that was just what I was after to unwind with. The limits of their procedural generation are clear and the lack of emergent gameplay is also true, but it's still got something compelling about it that keeps me coming back.

Just bought it during the recent PSN sale for 25 EUR. I like exploration games, so I guess I'll wait one more update and will give it a go. Still busy with XCOM 2 and The Last Guardian.

The Foundation update really improved the procedural generation engine for planet terrain. They look much more natural now. Stunning at times. For walking around exploring landscapes, it's a great chill experience. Space combat is okay, but could use improvements. If you're looking for more than that, I would wait until the next update drops. No one knows what will be in it though. I think the majority of complaints center around there not being enough short-term directed goals, like a job system. The base building added some missions, but in general you really have to make up your own goals as it currently stands.

I enjoyed my first 25ish hours or so with the game but I always enjoyed it simply as a survival game and didn't expect too much. I think that's the key: low expectations. Like, super low.

I actually thought the game was fun at first. I would say it's worth it at a cheap price.

I was eagerly awaiting the foundation update but I had already platinumed the game and just didn't care anymore. I have not tried any of the base building even though I really wanted it.

I will probably come back after they add a bit more.
