Itoi says Mother 3 will be out this Spring...

That is old by about 2 months.

Starmen.net was the first to translate it off his site and post the news about it back in november. Plus the Official Japanese Mother 3 main page saids that it will be out this spring as well.

The threadtitle made me COME in here.. and now I realise it's old. :|

I'm sure Mother 3 will happen over here. Only question is the prequels... before the November event I pretty much would have given up on ever seeing Mother 1+2 here, but given the fact that the system is poised to become an RPG powerhouse over the next year (Tales of Phantasia, and FFV and VI), I'm thinking it's a possibility now.

I would rejoice.

You just made my day.

Hmm... any chance Atlus would pick it up for a USA release if NOA didn't want to release Mother 1&2?

I'm still curious what NOA would -call- Mother 1&2 for a USA release... I'm almost tempted to think they'd call it "Earthbound Collection" and refer to the two games as "Mother" and "Earthbound".

That was my thinking as well. It seems clear that Nintendo wants to sustain sales of GBA hardware and software, hence the announcement out of the blue that NoA would localize ToP, and the announcements of new SNES ports (additional software sales without additional dev resources). If NoA is bringing Phantasia back from the grave for a localization in order to keep North American GBA sales strong, Mother 1+2 seemed like pretty good candidates, too, especially since that would easily tie into Mother 3 (increased sales for both games).

I'm sure it'll come over here with the strong fanbase the series has. Nintendo has brought most of its quirky games overseas over the past few years, with only a handful not making it. Hell, Brain Training is coming over...

I will learn Japanese to play this game if I have to, and that is no lie.

With that said, if it does come here, I plan on buying the GBA Player for GCN just to play this game, and I shall not stop playing until I beat it.

Why not call them Earthbound (SNES) and Earthbound 0 (NES)? I know I've read about "Earthbound 0" before. Then Mother 3 would be Earthbound 2 over here, which is what it would have been anyways, since our EB was their M2.

"Mother 3 will come out at N64's launch."
"Mother 3 will come out in 1997."
"Mother 3 will come out in 1998."
"Mother 3 will come out in 1999."
"Mother 3 is canceled."
"Mother 3 will come to GBA soon."
"Mother 3 will come out this Spring."

Sure.

Mother 1+2 never seen the light in USA/PAL even if Mother 2 was already translated.

The hopes to receive this Rpg in english are very low.
And for a game like this, import is useless.

NOA is not going to name a release after the pirate/hacker nickname for the game.

Yeah, if anything I'd expect retroactive numbering, a la Final Fantasy 2/4 and 3/6. Or they could change Earthbound into the subtitle... calling it something like Mothership 2: Earthbound from here on out. Then we could get Mothership 1 and Mothership 3 without any sequencing problems.
