I've actually gotten more use out of PC Gamepass than I have Xbox Gamepass

PC Gamepass and gaming from Windows 10 store for many is considered an afterthought compared to Xbox Gamepass, much of which is due to the bad rap due it gets from the awful (although I never personally had a problem with it) Games for Windows Live.

BUT there are compelling reasons to check it out if you have a decent PC.

My personal favorite reason is that many of the games present on the platform allow you to earn achievements, which can be use to boost your Xbox gamerscore and allows you to do it with all the bells and whistles provided by PC.
Games such as Gears of War 4 and 5, The Outer Worlds and all other Microsoft exclusives.

I recently played Metro Exodus, Metro 2033, Metro Last Light and just today Dishonored 2 and had a blast.

It's not a perfect system, in that you can't really mod the games and you can't back them up. Most importantly, the overall lineup pales in comparison to other platforms like Steam, GOG and even Epic.

I'd love to see other games end up on the Windows 10 store with achievements.

I just use it as a demo service for games outside of Microsoft's first party.

Ori will of the wisps was great, one of my favourite games of the year so far. Gears 5 I'm about half way through but not compelled to finish, it's average. I still need to dig into gears tactics properly but not been in the mood for turn based stuff lately.

Bought a plague tale, deliver us the moon, gris and children of morta on Steam after trying them out on gamepass because I felt the games deserved a permanent place in my library and to support the devs.

On the other hand it's saved me money on games like rage 2 and Wolfenstein youngblood which I thought I'd like but turned out to be mediocre.

The Xbox beta app is better than the Windows store, but it's still not perfect. Overall it's ok but I'm not invested enough in the Xbox ecosystem to care about stuff like Xbox achievements.

Not all gamepass games have achievements by the way. I completed deliver us the moon on it and didn't see a single achievement pop up.

I mean, I have Gamepass Ultimate until 2022 only for the PC Gamepass, but fucking achievements would be the last reason to get it.
I got it because for 90 euros I will have almost three years of day 1 access to full versions of all MS games, plus some 200 extra third party games. I already played some 8 games on it so pretty much got my money's worth already.

That's pretty much the opposite of compelling.
This makes no sense. Considering that there are tons of websites, youtube channels devoted to earning achievments, I'd say it's a pretty popular feature. Not to mention if its a feature you don't care about, you can ignore it.
Saying it's the opposite of compelling is a pretty dumb statement to make.

you can mod games, but not every game.
Halo MCC for example has a completely separate modding launcher, where you can use mods.

the issue is that mods were an afterthought and only slowly seep in now. when the new store version is coming to Windows and when they bring more and more modding features into the launcher it could be a really good store. after all it is the only store on PC that has family sharing and user reviews aside from Steam... which is kinda sad really.

also they recently changed their rules about .exe apps. before only UWP apps could be on the WIdnows store, but now any normal windows executables can be submitted, and windows executables are also easier to mod of course.

I hear what you're saying but it's a habit I'm trying to break
Thinking I should play on Xbox/PS because I don't get "credit" for playing
Trophies/Achievements are a gift and curse

The client still needs a lot of work, but it's such a crazy good deal. Going to be an amazing service with all of the upcoming 1st party Xbox content next generation.

Me too. Finished Alan Wake and looking forward to playing Wasteland 3 at the end of the month.

PC gamepass is great.... When it works. I despise the windows store which the pc gamepass apps uses in the background so there is no escaping it.
It's a sluggish buggy mess that will stop working with no feedback as to why.

When it works though there are some great gems on there. Playing Undermine now and enjoying it

So you're equating 'popular' with 'compelling.'

Got it. So I guess "50 Shades of Grey" must be one of the most compelling novels of all time. Justin Bieber? One of the most compelling musicians. Madden? One of the most compelling videogames.

Just because there are websites and YouTube channels dedicated to completionist bullshit doesn't mean it's compelling. It means you need to walk away from the computer.

My first world problem with PC Gamepass is the achievement stuttering in most games.

You can be waist deep in action and all of a sudden there's a 2 second slowdown because you're getting an achievement notification.

Outside that, the service has been fantastic and between it and Humble Monthly (and my massive Steam backlog), I'm never, ever hurting for something to play on PC.

I used it for ori this year it's an amazing game and everyone should play it, as for game pass on pc imo I don't see a reason to keep subscribing yet but in time I'm sure that will change.

Don't know if you know this but you can buy every game on Gamepass. There is nothing stopping you from adding them to your gaming library permanently. This is true even AFTER they leave Gamepass but you won't get the discount.

Literally tired of waiting for PC gamepass to come to the Asian region.

I wish they would soon because EA Origin Access is pretty much dead in the water by this year.

Yeh I'm aware and have no interest in having any of my gaming purchases tied to the windows store.

We should all just be cool with Smellence.. The science of smell, and science...

So, what I got from your post:

+ Achievements

- No modding
- No backup
- Shitty lineup

Nobody is saying Xbox is superior to PC. With the exception of you saying the opposite. A darkness has overwhelmed you, and your hatred of video game consoles has overwhelmed logic.

And I know that you did not kill your younger sister. You did not murder her, in the basement of your home. As your hand constricted her neck, you did not take a loose hand and pour sand down her throat....

No, I stopped forcing myself doing things I don't enjoy to gain stupid points.
The points aren't stupid, you earn rewards, money and can enter to win consoles, games ect... I've been able to buy full games because of it :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Going to enter to win that limited edition Cyberpunk Xbox too, just for getting those stupid achievements.

If it works for you, then more power to you. I find chasing points and achievements pointless as in most cases the tasks you need to perform to 100% a game are boring and repetitive. Not my definition of fun.

Just my personal opinion, nothing more.

I'm literally only subscribed to PC GamePass because I play an hour of FH4 every two weeks.
And well, it's just 4€ so whatever.

I don't chase them or even complete 99% of my games, i just earn them as i play a random game. They are optional and not forced at all so it's weird to see them being seen as a some sort of negative.

I think a healthy approach to achievements is to turn off notification and only check the ones you unlocked after you finish your gaming session.

When you start looking them up on the internet and play the game in a certain way to "earn points", that's when (for me) they suck off the enjoyment from the game.

How dare you to say something positive about microsoft in this forum!?!?! Don't you know that is forbidden???? You are gonna get swarmed by the Ps kids!

You say it like your very personal experience on something inherently benign and optional is somehow important to the discussion. What I mean is, to be fair I understand the OCD argument, but for most people that's not actually a tangible issue. Being eager to check off an achievement or similar is something that most people can handle without feeling stress. However, if you otherwise have a lot of other stress in your life, perhaps feeling bad about not being able to complete important things in your life, things like achievements can possible contaminate your escapism and force yourself to handle them like "real life important things", thus ending up elevating your cortisol level. But that's not normally something you should put on the service itself.

I'm a perfectionist with obsessive behavior when it comes to details. It helps in my software engineering company and writhing code but affects somewhat negatively pretty much everything else. 🤷‍♂️

All I can say is that the moment I stopped checking achievements and doing stupid shit like collect X to get Y over and over again, gaming became more enjoyable to me. I guess there are more people like me out there that are yet to open their eyes.

Ah yes I remember when younger and way dumber me was into "Achievements" and "Gamerscore".

I always thought Xbox did the whole 'Achievements' thing better than Sony. I never liked the 'trophies' thing. When I switched over to Sony (for PS4) from 360 I kinda forgot about/gave up on 'achievements'. Maybe it's an age thing but the like 'blip boooo' sound effect on Xbox was a big dopamine boost at the time. Never felt that with trophies.
