number 2 is the brain training thing? what is that exactly anyone know? Better yet impressions of it....

Also to those that know about this stuff, how well is Nintendogs actually doing?

EDIT: what the hell is bura bura donkey? I want it based on the title...

I've toyed with the idea of making an impressions thread about it on many an occasion but can't help feeling it will go largely unappreciated. Most people around here probably wouldn't call it a game :/

Anyway, it is another good example of Nintendo capturing a wider audience... it sold 10,000 on its day of release but netted another 30,000 over the weekend through casual buyers. It's really impressive to see trends like this occurring.

Another nice sales for a "non-game" :lol

See, Amirox? PSP selling consoles but not the games. Bad news.

24,000, Moccajava. There's at least 30 or 40 PSP games out. Are you saying, once more, that all of them combined didn't sell at least 24,000?

We can't derive data of all the PSP games, but I can place a bet that at least 24,000 units of software have been sold.

Chihuahua will be fine. It was only barely beat out. All three Nintendogs versions are still usually in the top 10 in the daily sales.

Well, out of the top 20 games daily sales charts, the only PSP game which usually was on them was Derby Time, this week.

With the sales of the top 10 games being this low, I can't imagine how low 10-20 are, and everything below.

I'd be more impressed to know how you determined that the 30000 weekend buyers were largely casual buyers. :)

Perhaps, just saying. 24,000 is not exactly a massive number to beat when you have 30 or 40 games on the market.

From the latest daily charts:

17 PSP Derby time The SONY * computer entertainment SLG 2005/4/21

20 PSP As for gong slot leading part sen shape

Look, if you still want to think that PSP sold 24,000 software units this week, go ahead, but based on the data, it's highly unlikely.

24,000 is not exactly a massive number to beat when you have 30 or 40 games on the market.

Maybe, but considering Derby Time probably sold no more than 1,000 units, each of those 30-40 games would have had to sell about 500 units this week. If they had, we probably would have seen them on the daily charts at least once in awhile. But we aren't.

Come on, you know the Japan market as well as anyone else. Hardcore gamers buy their games on the day they are released.

Yup, Nintendogs 11 and Naruto 12.

Jonny, from the Dengeki chart - how can you tell how many units were sold?

edit: Wow, only 5 PSP games in the top 50. DS has 11.

lol I recall last time MC numbers came out the same thing was brought up and it was proven that PSP software was very likely lower than hardware sales. I beleive hardware sales were 30k. But I do think this time its 1:1.

Put the words "Nintendos latest NON GAME" in the title. there is 2 pages..... I'm really interested to hear about it actually. most of the other non games don't interest me at all. I'd like to know what it even is.....

well if #37 sold only 2,000 copies, #50+ probably sold less than 1k each...

That's what I am factoring. But let's say those 5 PSP games ranked about 10,000 among themselves, and then another 10 PSP games sold 10,000 altogether... that's already 20,000.

It's not hard to equal 24,000.

Yes, but there are over a million PSP owners. That's not good at all.

...

We, uh, don't factor in every single system that has been sold up until that point compared to the software sales in any given week. That's just absurd. It's tie ratio next to the systems sold in that particular week. I mean, are you saying that if the PlayStation 2 doesn't sell, say, 30,000,000+ units of software every week in the US that it'd be weak? What about 20,000,000? 15,000,000?

Nintendo's "hit the untapped market" strategy is really working out for them. That being said, I saw Nintendogs running the other day at a store and it's really impressive. :D

Of course we don't, but it's another layer to think about. If people buy PSPs and never buy any games again, then that's not good for a system sold at a loss. Much less potentially selling less or barely even software and hardware. For Sony, for the PlayStation brand, it's pathetic. This also applies to the GC, although if the Xbox doesn't sell 1000 games in a week in Japan then something's very wrong.

There's no doubt software (and hardware) sales are weak. That's something very different than what is being discussed in this thread. And, again, this trend is very clearly following the fact that there are just no worthwhile games on PSP the last few weeks period. It's not demonstrating anything other than that, not the PSP owners inability to commit to new software.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
So are Fire Emblems sales dissapointing, on target, worth the development cost - they gonna make more console versions or keep it handheld only now is what I'm getting at.

Amir0x, whatever the reasons are behind a lagging system, hopefully they're reversed soon. PSP really needs a hit and fast. DS gets a Gundam title this week, for one.

A DS Fire Emblem is almost inevitable. I'm sure Nintendo will cook up a Revolution Fire Emblem sometime down the line.

I know for a fact though that Fire Emblem will go on to sell for quite awhile. The Japanese charts are deeper than they might seem. I can't say anymore, but let's just say I wouldn't be surprised if Fire Emblem finished off at 200K or even 220K.

Their good. FE always sell around 150k to 200k.

No question about it. However, when you still see Nintendo DS games that were released at launch & near launch well in the top 50 (40 even), doesn't that say something? The PSP is still selling respectively on a weekly basis...So why aren't more games that are out in the top 50?

and with that ds outsells psp for the year so far then.

Not yet - it's 880K to 863K - getting smaller each week. Gundam MAY close the lead even further, to something less than 10K. We'll see.

Not disappointing. NCL themselves stated that they projected 150k sales for the title (they probably only produced 150k copies). The game will more than make up its development costs by its America and Europe sales, which should boost the game to well over 400k global sales. Unless the FMV was expensive as hell, it can't be anything but a profit.

I don't know which numbers you're using but using MC numbers the gap for the year is only about 6K (PSP=870K, DS=864K).

Is there a mistake on GameScience's current numbers?

Last week it was 834K vs. 856K in favor of PSP...

29 + 834 = 863K
24 + 856 = 880K
Difference = 17K

I keep track of the HW sales data for each week, I'm correct.

There was one week (I can't remember which off the top of my head) where I noticed (after checking the MC site) that the PS2 and PSP numbers were switched and I even commented about it in the thread here on this forum. That's probably the week that's throwing Game-Science's numbers off because I noticed the same mistake on a few sites.

EDIT: I searched the forums and found that it was the week of Jan 17-23 where the PSP and PS2 numbers were switched but it can't be because of that week that Game-Science is off because most people listed it as 10K lower than it was. Game-Science made a mistake somewhere else.
