It's interesting that this week of all weeks sent the DS over 40,000. This has been the only week since about Nintendogs that has had no new game releases.

It's also the last week until about October (where no game dates have been set in stone) that the DS doesn't have a killer app (or multiple) every week.

the adult version sold more than the week before too. I believe it's done it four times now :lol
Yeah, but I considered that because of word of mouth since it was a new IP. Now even the sequel does it, after awareness has been created. Plus it's for a higher amount, too.

Atamajuku actually sold more this week than last. Is this the first time ever for any Japanese game that this has happened?!?! Normally games would sell the most on its first week of release, but this game.... man, just crazy.

Of course not.

By the way, both DS and PSP have 27 games coming out (unless I counted wrong) according to that list until October. Interesting.

DS Jump Super Stars 2005-08-08 4800 yen Nintendo

I wonder why Nintendo decides to sell this game on a Monday... games are usually put on sale on a Thursday in Japan.

another excelent week for the DS, selling double than the PSP :)

August is gonna be huge for the DS, with Jump super stars, castelvania and dragon quest

Ehh, I don't think (hope) it won't be too bad.

The PSP goes down, DS goes up...I think they'll be close enough where there won't be too much bickering.

Oh who am I kidding.

Should be fun to see the turnaround next week when NPD numbers come out. :)

I don't know. Having the GBA and DS numbers combined kinda takes the bite out of things. Potentially the NPD could throw up an even huger fanboy war if the reaction to reports of DS selling 57k are anything to go by. In some way, although it annoys people the combined Nintendo sales thing probably makes things a lot nicer in the long run.

Turnaround? What do you mean? Is there something special?

By "turnaround" he means that the NPD will show the PSP outselling the DS, blah, blah, blah....

Just like MS in Japan, if Sony fanboys don't see the numbers then they don't exist.

Just like the Japan weekly sales threads will show the DS outselling the PSP, blah, blah,blah, blah....

People should just accept that on a worldwide view, both systems will be pretty close and akin to the Xbox vs. GC console sales. Neither system is bombing and neither is going to take the lead like the PS2 did in consoles. So since there's no point bickering about it people should just find something new to discuss.

Only on a worldwide level. I think in Japan the DS could really start to zoom out in the lead, while the opposite may happen in America.

As far as next week's NPD goes, I bet DS sales go up (although PSP will still beat it, obviously). I'll be really surprised if the blue DS, Mario bundle, and 3 good games didnt' boost sales at LEAST a little bit.

But yeah, I kinda want to see how well Rockman DS sells.

PSP totals dont add up

Yeah - if those weekly totals are correct, then the yearly totals should be:

PSP = 1,020,782
NDS = 1,112,953

Something is wrong with either the weekly numbers, or the yearly numbers, or both. Could you explain the yearly totals that you listed Jonnyram?

Because sales charts are monday to sunday, games usually release on Thursdays in Japan so expect HUGE sales for JJS that week. They want to set some kind of guiness record with this game. Megaton indeed :)

What the fuck is with people complaining because the numbers are hundreds - not even mere thousands - hundreds off?

Why does it matter that the PSP and NDS's number is a few hundred units give or take what you have?

Well, I guess we'll find out if the HW numbers are legitimate tomorrow.

If these weekly totals are correct, then the Media-Create totals are:

LTD / 2005

NDS: 2,608,549 / 1,112,953
PSP: 1,503,034 / 1,020,782

The PSP reached 1.5 million LTD, but the DS has now won 12 weeks in a row and 15 out of the last 16 weeks.

Those are the highest weekly totals for the DS in two months, and no new games were released. It looks like the DS is just picking up steam for the big releases which are on the way. Those Brain Training games are really helping to sell hardware!
