That article is full of shit. Street dates get broken all the time in Japan at smaller retailers. The only time I've ever been able to get a game early back in the states was when 7-11 recently started selling video games and I was able to get a copy of Gears 2 days ahead of time because the guy at the register had no idea what it was and failed to notice the "Do not sell before XX/XX/XXXX" sticker.
