Oh you meant in Japan alone, got you now. Thought you meant it would sell from this point until the end of its lifetime an additional 30 million units worldwide. In glorious nippon, best selling console is the DS at just over 32M. Not sure the Switch can match that, but it will definitely beat the 3DS at 25M.
3ds is a lock. 32M is hard but 30M I feel doable as long as they don't do a switch 2 anytime soon. And I don't think they need to.

Excuse my ignorance, but can someone explain me how the fuck are 7000 PS5's being sold this past week in Japan when NO retailers are having stock?

That roulette or lucky draw thing isn't even happening anymore there. Where the fuck are these consoles from and being sold to?

You need to read more financial reports from both companies instead of watching YouTube for those financial informations.
That sums up what an oddball you are (I'm not being funny but like a person with Aspergers). At the moment I'm playing Ghosts of Tsushima and Red Dead. I come on GAF occasionally to check the latest gaming news. But reading financial reports to derive pleasure? GTFOH 🤮😁

By your own analogy could you personally build a fully operational Nintendo Switch for less than £280?

The value in Nintendo Switch is mostly based in its hybrid nature and that it can play Nintendo games - clearly millions of consumers see Switch as very good value. Otherwise, nobody would be buying it.
Nintendo: Eat a shit sandwich.
Gamer X: What flavour?

They probably are selling them to employees or to their friends family. Ps5 is gold dust in japan atm.

Is there a way to call up customer support of these retail chains and explain the situation and ask when they'll restock or will these employees handle these calls themselves?

About restocking, these guys (store employees) are saying that they don't have any idea...

Nah you'll just get told some bullshit and that they're expecting stock in soon. Personally I'd expect a big restock at the end of January but the way things are going ps5 WW will be gold dust until 2022. There's never been such big demand for a playstation.

Dude, yodobashi and biccamera are constantly saying no stock. Are those employees lying by any chance?
Guerrilla sales or whatever it's called there, where it attracted resellers to buy the system especially after platform holder just sent a tiny fraction of new hardware to Japan.
Fortunately for you, the real demand isn't that big like Nintendo Switch so you can get it easily in just a few weeks soon.
What we're currently witnessing in Japan is just resellers vs actual customers but nothing to write home about.

Another example of real big demand vs just a fake demand or artificial scarcity(purposely sent in a small size to create a sold-out headline)
Nintendo Switch sales in 5 weeks of march 2020 during Animal Crossing launches month = 936K and sold-out, this is a perfect example of big demand or real demand
Playstation 5 sales in 5 recent weeks = 60K and sold-out, this is a perfect example of fake demand with very little shipment size to drive up the talk about the sold-out hardware.

This is the first generation that I have the Sony machine (PS5) and now, of all times, it is becoming irrelevant in Japan. Given that I hate Sony's Western-centric franchises (Naughty Dog etc... no thanks, zero interest) this doesn't bode well for me. I guess as long as FromSoftware stays put, I'm good.

TOP 10 PUBLISHERS
  1. Square Enix - 6.590.550
  2. Capcom - 4.283.902
  3. Konami - 2.488.478
  4. Microsoft - 2.201.049
  5. Bandai Namco - 1.425.787
  6. Sega - 738.200
  7. Take Two - 708.610
  8. From Software - 413.021
  9. Atlus - 405.455
  10. Level 5 - 358.356

Konami has seen the most growth last year in terms of their market share with 1.8 million software sold. Momotaro is continuing to sell strong so at this point we can expect that with two additional games they will be able to match this result next year, surpassing 4.2 million software. Momotaro's performance is far surpassing expectations so I would not be surprised to see it surpass it's 2020 result in 2021, the game is seemingly going to enjoy strong sales during big hardware weeks. Eventually I would expect it to surpass 3 million sales no franchise since Yo-Kai and Minecraft has reached such a milestone.

Capcom with Monster Hunter Rise, should overtake Square Enix without much problems. Their 2021 sales are likely to surpass their current total of 4.2 million. This will be mainly due to Rise becoming the best selling 3rd Party game. Capcom is likely to achieve it's highest sales ever in 2021.

Square & Bandai, biggest titles are focused on the PS4/PS5.. so they are not likely to see explosive growth unless things change in terms of their lineup for the Switch in the coming months.

Marvelous should join the Top 10 by the end of Quarter and will likely start to challenge Bandai for the 5th place in 2021 - Sakuna, Olive Town and Rune Factory 5 are looking like an extremely strong lineup for them this year.

I still don't know who is buying the SWITCH and Animal Crossing, I still don't understand who doesn't already own the ever greens. It's insane. Who are these people. How many SWITCH consoles do they own?, our has has owned 3 in total.

Is the success of the SWITCH the genre of games, or the portability? transitioning to the mobile market.

This is insane.

If it was Sony they'd be jerking off over it every week.
Yup pretty much, they hate seeing the reality that sony is getting curb stomped by nintendo in the charts, which is why they mention "oh it's not a real console" and "japan only plays minigame crap" and "japan is not important anymore" because of "reasons" to make themselves feel better so they can cope.

Apparently, PS5 software situation is abysmal thanks to Sony stock allocation that benefiting the scalpers greatly that subsequently resulting low sales of physical copies sold at retailers.

Even PS4 delayed launch fiasco is better situation than this.

It was a joke, i was talking about our "friends", you are their target, 15k is a big provocation :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Scalpers selling the consoles on other regions lol. This shit is so fucked up.

So many resellers near retailers since launch, I had never seen so many at Tokyo, insane, I could have put thousands of photos of them. Since my first ps5 reseller photo, people tell me "it's business as usual", no, I've never seen so many and they buy so high quantities...
