Japanese Sales: 2012 Jul 09 - Jul 15

My personal favorite comparison is about generation decline and how Dante's Inferno's first month outsold Max Payne 3's first month, the 5-6 years in development, 5+ studio Rockstar May game.

We were talking about this in the NPD thread, but is it really just generational decline or other forms of monetization sucking the life out of retail. Anyway, that's getting a little off topic as the Japanese market seems to be doing much better due to the 3DS.

Edit: As for Training games, is there any sign in Japan that people are still into these types of games. I don't remember Brain Training being on the charts nearly as long as Nintendo's other evergreens. Mario Kart DS was still charting like last year.

Hmm, I don't want to say the training games were a fad, but it looks like something went very wrong with the Wii game. Perhaps it being on a console. The problem with Oni Training is also the higher pricepoint its launching at.

But the question also could be: If one could argue that the Vita has a bunch of potential software announcements on the way, whats to prevent the same scenario for the 3DS with third parties?

What if most 3rd parties are actually holding back announcements, but for the 3DS, not the Vita?

(just for discussion sake)

In case anyone was wondering, it's a stupid title in Japanese too.

No. Only Vita has games to be announced. 3rd parties are going to be fair and devote their time to Vita for a few years now that 3DS is a success. Try 2015 for new 3DS game announcements.

Personally I just don't see how Sony could leave a system sitting on the store shelves to rot without announcing even logos at E3 or any other time. You could bring up the counterargument that Nintendo didn't announce Monster Hunter until 3 months before shipping but Nintendo had already announced 3D Land and Mario Kart well in advance. What I'm trying to say is that my expectations of huge TGS announcements are low, especially if Vita Heaven 2 doesn't deliever.

For a dead system (at least according some of the comments i've read here :p), the PSP sure gets much support still. I wonder how long it will be supported.

Seems like a bunch of VNs. For such cheap projects like that it doesn't make sense to move on with the sub 10k people that will buy them are already on the PSP. Is there any semi big game coming out for PSP after Little Battlers W? I would say God Eater 2, but there's a good chance it moved platforms.

Could be, still great support though.

That One Piece RPG game might sell pretty good.

After the PSP is gone for real, I wonder where the visual novels/anime games will go.

[WII] Just Dance Wii 2 <ACT> (Nintendo) (¥5.800)

I thought the first Just Dance would get some kind of bump on anticipation of this release (like the taiko wii bump before the 3ds release), but it didn't even appear on the charts. I'm curious about how will the sequel do, can't wait for next next week

you can't show logos of what you don't have. well, you could but that would be in poor taste. at least again, anyway.

The longer it lives the quicker the Vita's death will be. The 3DS had similar issues. People weren't done with the DS, until Nintendo actually made the 3DS cheaper than the DS in some regions with the pricecut, forcing people to move forward. Sony has to figure out how to take the appeal out of the PSP and leave customers with no other option.

maybe they're content with what they're doing? After all, Vita is earning money while the 3DS will only begin this year

I know it's silly but reasons are damn scarce if you think about the dreadful situation

Considering the amount of money spent on marketing and distribution, Vita most likely has Sony in the red right now. If you take R&D and games development into account Vita is a money sinkhole at this point.

you can't show logos of what you don't have.

See: Nintendo at E3 2010 with Saints Row and Assassin's Creed. Or see everyone coming out with a new system and the huge lists of TBA titles.

See: Nintendo at E3 2010 with Saints Row and Assassin's Creed. Or see everyone coming out with a new system and the huge lists of TBA titles.

The difference here is that those games were intended to hit the 3ds at some point. We know Saint's Row: Drive-by was planned to hit xbla and the 3ds, but both were cancelled along with another Saint's Row title. Thanks to developer interviews, we also know that Assassin's Creed became Revelations at some point.

Now whether or not nintendo knew these games where going to be cancelled is really another discussion, but it's fairly obvious that at some point in time these were in the pipeline for the 3ds.

That's a mouthful and a half! lol

Does that entire title get printed on the game/box in JP?

I think my original point was that Sony has had all the chances in the world to show off logos saying that Vita hasn't been left out to dry by Japanese publishers and they've failed to do so.Nintendo showed those logos because they were planning on hitting the 3DS at some point even if they got cancelled. The fact that Sony can't even pull out logos when there system is outright failing is what I said did not give me confidence for a strong TGS showing

Of course I could be completely wrong and for whatever reason they could have a large bag of tricks up their sleeve that they don't want to announce for whatever reason.

and then nothing was ever the same.

I dont think that Vita will die quicker because of the PSP. But yep, the key is to make the new system interesting enough so that people want to buy it instead of buying the old one. This will lead to that the older system will phase out on its own, and then there is no need to take direct actions trying to kill of an older system.

What's up with Japanese and that annoying background noise in the beginning of the CM? It's in every goddamn anime show and movie and everything else.
They're cicadas. You hear them in summer, the ad is for summer, he's talking about summer.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
They are already pushing MH4 - game will be massive. Wonder how and when they'll introduce a Best-price Tri G version - since it's still selling steadily at its current price.

I'm awaiting the moment Time Travelers becomes the next million seller for PSP, that will show you all non believers.

Hino will come post on NeoGAF and you will all bow down to him. He will then proceed to tattoo the GAF logo on his left buttock, and the word BELIEVE in the other.
