I'd prefer a Revelations style over RE5 (Or presumably 6, never played it). Was really indifferent to 5 and thought Revelations was the better game

Finally Resident Evil for Vita.

Revelations wasn't all that different from 4/5/6 really. It still had too much action outside of Jill parts which were the best parts. The boss fights all sucked still. Not any better than 6 in enemy design/boss fights. If it's not a main game maybe hopefully it allows them to ditch the forced coop and see what happens...

Oh so this new Resident Evil is going to be like the latest ones fans enjoyed and not the one that they disliked... This rumor is so full of shit.

A background character, mentioned in the games, but has not made an active appearance yet. Hmm..

-Alias the security officer from RE1? (Keeper's Diary)
-Jake's Mother? (Assuming this is before RE6)
-Alex Wesker? (Mentioned briefly in LIN)
-Hunk may also be a possibility as he isn't really an active character.

That's basically all I can think of right now.

They should just do RE7, keeping the gameplay from RE6, but with good level design this time. That would be perfect.
I don't even think it is level design so much as communication. People were mad when it would put the pressure on and not tell them explicitly what to do, so they would run around all confused or get killed. But you know what? That has been a staple characteristic of RE from the beginning. You have to figure out shit on your own, even though it is methodical. Knowing what to do the next time, and doing RUNS is also essential to the real fans of the series, and RE6 highlighted and made this very interesting with tons of options and online dynamics.

NON-fans of RE just didn't like it because they got all confused switching from action bang bang time to using the ol noggin time. I wouldn't doubt if these people didn't actually finish RE games and just played some of the classics a few hours until they didn't like the ink ribbon system anymore. Granted, RE4 was some genius-level shit in regard to guiding your thinking without explicitly telling you what to do, but playing RE5 I don't understand how people say it is so great and then bitch about RE6. Some people even say RE5 is better than RE4 and I'm just like "da fuuuuuuck?"

I'm thinking Alex Wesker.
Perfect antagonist for this type of game.

Someone should create a list.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Revelations was the best post-Mikami RE so that sounds good to me. 5 and 6 are best forgotten.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Good. Rev was a really good game. Keep some of the camp, the melodrama of RE6 was overwhelming. I just couldn't get into it. Was trying too hard to be too many things.

Hopefully they'll keep the good stuff from RE6.

I liked REV, but exploration wasn't good as old RE, and combat wasn't good as RE6.

This is good to hear if true. I've always wanted to get into the RE series, but I didn't want to touch 5 or 6 after hearing all about them. Well, I played Revelations and I liked it, so I'm sure I'd like this. Now if we're really lucky, maybe the next RE will be a spiritual successor to System Shock 3.

This makes me happy. I loved the scope and depth of content of RE6 but it wasn't fun, it was a generic shooter. RE5 was just a less fun expansion pack for 4, it felt very cookie-cutter but it wasn't bad. RE:R was awesome. Half RE4, half RE1. The gun customization and all that was cool and so was raid mode. Easily the best RE since 4. That's the direction I want to see them continue unless they have something better lined-up.

I feel like I see this all the time but I really don't understand it. There is a part of the game that is claustrophobic, dark, and "scary" like classic RE, but there is an even larger part that is all about action and shooting things. There are very significant pieces of RE6 that are like classic RE as well (like 90% of Leon's campaign). I don't even really love RE6, but I think RER gets a tremendous pass despite lacking the really intricate, interlocking level design of the classic games, having essentially no puzzles, no enemy variety, some uninteresting boss fights, and some other issues I don't know if I should go into here.

I'd love to see people really elaborate on why they like this game. I can certainly list out why RE6 is better than most people give it credit for being!

Can't really elaborate since I only played RE6 for a few hours and basically gave up. Probably the game and atmosphere of RE6 didn't click on me while the opposite happened for RE:R. Probably due to playing the original (3DS) version. Never played the HD ports.

lol... seems like most of you saying revelations were terrible are probably people who are fps infested nowadays or aren't familiar with the first wave of the franchise..
No, I love old-school RE as much as I love the more action oriented RE. My first RE was RE2 (back in the 90's) and my personal top 3 in the franchise are RE2, REmake and RE4.

Revelations is just a bad game. If you judge it as an old school RE, it is terrible. If you judge it as an action RE, it is terrible. If you judge it on its own, it is a completely mediocre game (at best)

Billy, Claire, and Hunnigan.

It's odd to me that people keep mentioning Billy. I don't expect he'll return in any capacity unless I'm missing extra information outside of the games. He has no attachment to the incidents, he was only to be incarcerated there and his entire motive was to leave the city and escape imprisonment. He doesn't join Rebecca in her second fight through the RE1 mansion, and is only with her up until they can both escape RE0's scenario. His story seems to be done, he'd have no reason to return and no will to fight bio-terrorism.

I'd love a game similar to RE4. Go back to basic mechanics. No forced CO-OP. A setting similar to RE4. And cheesy lines please!

from the other thread but seeing as this isn't a numbered game the case could still pull through

My theory of it being the MS third party exclusive
I could see it being Resident Evil

Seeing as it isn't a direct numbered sequel and MS is trying to find a game to quell the on growing fan base that TLOU is presenting

Granted Dead Rising is an exclusive zombie game from Capcom already but it doesn't take itself seriously

I could see this being a more story focused (trying to be sorrowful) Resident Evil spinoff like Revaltions

L4D is out of the equation... I don't see Valve ever doing an exclusive deal now that they are so well off and with the bonus fact that MS competitor is already ahead in sales...

Capcom though is plausible... plus the fact that we've already seen Resident Evil hold timed exclusivity before

Billy Coen making a comeback.

I'm calling it.

It makes sense for some because they squeezed out most of the story juice out of all the characters possible.

Billy Coen only was in 1 game and left without much explanations, which leaves a lot of potential for a new story. Anyway, that would make sense to me tbh.

As a huge RE fan, Revelations was a slight step up from 5 and 6 but it was still pretty terrible. At least we have The Evil Within if this is true.

RE:R was awesome. Half RE4, half RE1.

I wish that was the case. Game was nothing like RE1.

You have it backwards. Revelations has far more in common with the action trilogy (4-6) than anything prior to those games.

It's similar to Revelations in that they misspelled the the title. That also explains why it's not RE7.

Anyway, I just barely started Revelations now, don't have much of an opinion yet. I don't mind whether it focuses on horror or action, though, so long as it keeps that focus. Games tend to turn out poorly when they try to do too many styles of gameplay.

I'd love a game similar to RE4. Go back to basic mechanics. No forced CO-OP. A setting similar to RE4. And cheesy lines please!

I thought all Resident Evil games had that?

Whatever it is, I just want it to be good and have a clear vision and personality. And if it is smaller in scale, it should at least look stellar.

I kind of liked Revelations, but not to the point of gushing over it. It had the dumbest story in the series, and that's saying a lot. The monster designs were awful and it was hard to tell in shots actually hit them.

I skipped 6 after being underwhelmed by the demo.

I'm a RE fan and I hated it because it was full of awful parts. Why the fuck am I playing some Ace combat knock-off in a RE game? Why am I in a car chase with poor physics and handling? Why do I have to run from an avalanche in a snowmobile? Why is a tank chasing me in some kind of casino in a RE game? Why do I have to prevent a plane from crashing doing QTE? Why did they have to add cleaning bots with bombs on them? Why is this game full of badly made sequences that have no place in the game?

It seems no one on the design team was there to say "no we can't add this to the game, it doesn't fit with the game we are trying to make and we don't have enough experience with the type of gameplay required for that part". Instead they added as much as they could even if the pacing and the parts itself were poor.

It doesn't help that the game drags one and that you keep doing the same thing with the different characters. Oh, instead of collecting keys while dodging these regenerating monsters that tries to rape your mouth, you will now have to hit switches or collect codes. The game also throws cheap kill wall chase at you which are infuriating in coop. Just imagine RE1/Remake with its instant death traps but played in coop. I think I died 15 times at the chase part at the end of Chris/Piers scenarios in coop. The one where you have to slide. The timing was simply awful in coop. I don't call this having fun.

A male character who we haven't seen in games period? Only mentioned in background info? That is very unusual for Capcom. The two females I suppose would be Rebecca and Claire, I could see them being in the same line of work.

EDIT: I misread that, thought they WERE from the comic/movie canon. Still, I wonder whether he'll be a protagonist or an antagonist. TO E3!

Yeah it was. The structure of the game was very similar. You have an area that opens up as you go through it and find keys and requires a bit of backtracking. The difference was it was broken up in chapters to fit the portable gameplay. This is opposed to RE4 structure which you ran through a mostly linear set of environments.

Revelations has some elements to build on. The art direction was (mostly) good. Raid mode was a fun, repetitive timesponge. There were some good encounters and locations. But that's about it.

Everything else was poor. The quick-fix bite-size episodic nature and continuity zig-zagging never gave itself enough room to build tension, excitement or immersion. The much-touted exploration only amounted to 'go to your map waypoint or look for supplies'. There's a ton of backtracking, and not the kind which offers new twists or gives you incentive to return. The combat was extremely lightweight and repetitive, with a small selection of enemies. The plot was convoluted, random nonsense, jammed with twists for the sake of twists. It seems to me that Revelations' warm-ish reception was due in part to it simply answering pleas for an explicitly horror-oriented RE, just as iterations which spurn (usually false) memories of a sedate, resource-limiting experience are given a cold shoulder by fans à la 5 and 6, and even 4. I appreciate that it's a handheld title, and that certain expectations and limitations come with that, and I enjoyed it at the time, but it doesn't hold up for me at all anymore.

There's little, if nothing I want carried over from Revelations into future RE titles, and I hope Bot/Hunk's information, if they're claiming the next entry's similarity to it, is false.

I feel like I see this all the time but I really don't understand it. Very true. And RE6, for all the vitriol it induces, probably does have more in common with classic RE than Revelations.

Revelations was quite dull and a poor imitation of old RE games. It's like they took all the wrong things from those games without understanding why those games were good.

RE6, while a departure from the series, was a pretty decent character action game. At least it was competent at what it tried to do and was engaging. Too bad most people were unable to look past the echo chamber hate for the game and (understandably) the expectations set by the rest of the franchise.

I'd be more excited for a RE6-2 tbh, but if they can make a RER type game but not dull and soulless then I'd buy into that as well.

A game in the vein of Jill's parts in Revelations with Claire, Barry and Hunnigan? Sign me up!
Not that the prospect of playing as Hunnigan is very exciting but didn't her VA say that she's in the next one a few weeks ago?
Whatever, just give me Claire and Barry.

Or maybe the duo from RE0 is back? That would also fit.

Revelations like? Good news.

Seeing the thread already turned into a "why is Revelations good?" thing, I'll throw in my opinion; I didn't dislike 6 that much (I thought it was pretty interesting, this mess of good and bad ideas) but Revelations as it is has a more constant design and idea behind it. RE 6 was mostly a game where three separate parts were thrust into one game. Revelations had a few Side chapters, but those were done pretty quickly and didn't influence my overall enjoyment of the game.

Sure, Revelations had it's problems. Boring enemy design, nonsensical story and some terribad characters, but those weren't as bad compared to RE6. More importantly, it has Raid Mode. A fun secondary game, to bad Raid on consoles is a bit broken.

Well if that's the similarity to RE1 then let's call Revelations a 90/10 action/classic split. I felt like I was playing RE 4-6 the whole time I was playing Revelations and I'm a massive fan of classic RE.

It had shit enemies, a shit story, non-existent horror and constant action. I'm not sure why people want more of this.
