Man, seems like so many more movies are hurdling over the 1 billion mark nowadays.
From a marathon to a sprint to 1 billion.

I suppose there are other factors to account for, and inflation as usual.

lol neogaf hates everything

Also, thanks again for free pizza!

I just have totally missed any hype or much marketing for this film. Barely anything on FB either about people seeing it.

I'm amazed it's done so well and passed me by.

Considering how much JPIII made, consider me shocked. I don't think anyone saw it doing this well.

Can't wait for the Jurassic cinematic universe.

Guys, no way Star Wars does well enough now that is opening during the holidays. I mean, come on. When was the last movie to open in December that set box office records?

*heads to box office mojo*

Oh...

Dumb but fun movie. Nostalgia and marketing are to be credited for its commercial success though, not necessarily movie quality.

Don't worry, I don't think anyone saw this coming. Even those of us who were hyped/looking forward to JW were thinking that they completely flubbed the marketing.

Just furthers that GAF =/= real world!

Colin Trevorrow. Has there been a larger leap between projects? Safety not Guaranteed had a 4 million dollar domestic box office.. his next movie gets 400 million (and counting).

Biggest 3rd weekend ever is Avatar @ $68,000,000.

Unless I'm missing something.... doesn't look like anything significant will open this weekend? Hmm....

That is very impressive.

I wouldn't be surprised if Star Wars doesn't beat it. It might make more overall because it probably won't face stiff competition during its run, but I dunno about it coming out as fast.

What kind of story do they come up with for the sequel? Would hate to be that writer

if they do ANYTHING with that whole "using dinosaurs in the military" I refuse to see the movie on principal unless it gets rave reviews. That whole aspect of the story was the worst part about the overall pretty dumb script.

Opening weekend is a guess at this point, but not for the lack of trying. Comparing opening weekends for a Summer and December release isn't that easy due to the different factors involved. I could easily see it breaking all December records and JW overall since I'm expecting it to have some good legs throughout the month and January/February.

I'll bet my hat that the third weekend record won't go down. For the record, I'm not against this movie in fact I was one of the few people saying it would do good.

time to take back the park with Blu

how the fuck... it's not even that good.

People keep saying that about the Transformers movies and yet they bring in a ton of money. Sometimes people just want to escape reality for a short time and have some (stupid) fun. You don't need the deepest characters or the most complex plot for that.

We will not be denied.

I enjoyed the movie. Whoever hasn't seen it, should.

I didn't care much for the ending though. I'm not a fan of Godzilla... and that's just what it reminded me of. Looking back though, I'm not sure how else they could have ended the movie.

Wonder what direction they take the sequel. A Site B type of scenario, or more Rise of the Planet of the Apes type?

Or maybe militarizing the dinosaurs?

A meaningless feat considering inflation and WW audiences expansion. Boxoffice numbers will remain contextual until somebody decides to report tickets sold rather than dollar grosses.

I haven't seen the movie so I don't know if it's good or not but I have no idea how it's making that much money.

I hadn't seen any hype about it and, even know, haven't heard people talking about it and suddenly it's the biggest thing.

I honestly don't get how it happened.
