Kathleen Kennedy reportedly out at LucasFilm [Update: Official]

The Last Jedi is the dumbest fucking movie I've ever seen. I remember watching it and thinking it couldn't possibly get any worse, yet it did, repeatedly. Princess Leia flying in space was so absurdly stupid I don't know how anyone can defend this thing. Good riddance to Kathleen, but the damage is irreparable.

I remember sitting in the car with my brother after we had just watched TLJ in the theater, we couldn't believe how disappointing the movie had been. We both grew up on Star Wars and were huge fans, but TLJ was the first thing from Star Wars to ever really make us feel bad about it.

I hate that damn movie so much.

I walked out of the theater and stared into darkness thinking "what did I just watch"

It stung. And by the reactions of people in the theater as we were watching, they all felt the same.

Nobody clapped at the end like they usually did. People walked out dazed and confused.

We had this tradition after Christmas where my friends, cousins, their partners, etc. would hit the cinema to watch whatever blockbuster was out, then grab lunch and shop afterwards. We'd done it for years - LotR, the Star Wars prequels, etc.

TLJ was the first time we walked out after in silence. We just regrouped in the lobby and talked about lunch ideas. It was only after in the car when I started to go "wtf did we just watch" to my wife.

Anyway, Rise of Skywalker at the end of 2019 was the last time we ever got the whole crew together for a movie. COVID, kids, and the usual life crap finished off the tradition but man, it sucks that it had to go out on such a contrived turd of a movie.

Yeah, exactly that. People wearing all manner of Star Wars shirts and stuff were just silently walking out of the theater. It felt more like a funeral than a Star Wars movie on opening weekend.

As someone not highly invested into Star Wars, the primary feeling I had after downloading and watching The Last Jedi (just to confirm for myself if it was as bad as people were saying) was, "That was a very messy, flawed movie, and I felt like I wasted my time." Wasted time is one of the worst feelings I can personally associate with a film.

Looking at the output since that movie, and seeing how Rise of Skywalker attempted to correct what people criticized (short of Lucasfilm publicly admitting that TLJ had issues) and somehow turned out WORSE, it really should not be any surprise as to why people deservedly give that movie shit to this day. Seems pretty clear to me that it was a high-profile fuckup with lasting damage for the brand.
