Keighley: Kojima was cut off from team during final six months of MGSV's development

"I haven't talked much about that, but it was such a difficult time because he was going through a lot last year," Keighley says. He was shocked when he found out – just days before the show – that Konami wasn't going to allow Kojima to attend, and he felt he had to say something, despite the company being a sponsor. "The fact that he finished that game under those circumstances is just amazing. He was locked in a separate room on a different floor than his development team for the final six months of development. He couldn't even talk to them – he had to talk through someone else. That's how that game was finished."

That's why the character in death stranding has no belly button. His baby never got to be born. It was disconnected from its parent too soon. Smh

This was known from insider info.

That's why it pisses me off when people think that somehow Konami didn't fuck with the development process.

Imagine how great it would have been if they just let him finish it off. You can polish ALOT in 6 months. Fix the ending / story problems and it would have been amazing.

what a way to go out, all that work to end up locked in your room as your final work goes unfinished and you can't do anything about it

Honestly, somebody had to pull the plug. That shit was going nowhere.

You say that, but what is there in chapter 1 is some of the finest most polished stealth action game or even Japanese game out there outside of lack of story. Game was going somewhere as chapter 2 shows, but it needed more time to actually finish and Konami pulled the plug because they didn't want to spend the money to let him finish the game.

And people were calling Kojima a hack when it released. This guy is a pro to finish a game in those conditions. Devs well know that the last months, specially weeks are key for a game to be done. Hope he never has to go through that again.

That is so fucked up. Atleast let someone finish their project before going guns blazing with one man. Damn Konami was really out to get him.

that's certainly something

I obtained a confidential image of Kojima during the final six months of development:

That's worse than I imagined and downright abusive in a strange way. I just imagined they'd be abusive in ways warped corporate types can think makes things productive, not this sort of vindictiveness that obviously throws a wrench in the process.

Honestly, somebody had to pull the plug. That shit was going nowhere. And in the end, it freed Kojima from the MGS franchise! Win/win!

Best way to "pull the plug" was obviously to lock the director in a separate room which mean a better communication can now be achieved... That way won't be a waste of time at all, no no.

Everyone and their mothers is smitten with Kojima the poor saint who got screwed over when it is likely he has a massive ego and that probably played a huge part in this scuffle. This isn't some hollywood flick where the little guy is completely innocent and the corporation are evil demons. Kojima is a giant of the industry.

Yeah, it shouldn't come as a surprise how unfinished the game is. It would've been great to play Kojima's vision. Still though, the game's pretty entertaining in its current state.

Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.

The guy concocted one of the greatest gameplay mehcanics and stealth mechanics ever, was WELL on track to make this a phenomenal Metal Gear Solid entry already having the gameplay locked down, but couldnt finish the story and his open world vision due to Konami's unfathomable dumbassery.

This will forever be a video game tragic story. Its all just so fucking tragic.

At least you're now forever free and right at home with Sony, you genius thing, you.

FucKonami.

Hopefully people will stop with the BS that all (and there are plenty) of MGSV's problems are Kojima's fault. Konami was fucking with this thing so much. What we got was still amazing but I would have loved to see the original plan.
