Kesha Begs Court To Let Her Record New Music To Save Her Career

The clock is ticking on Kesha's career as long as the court bars her from recording music with producers other than Dr. Luke, the singer said in legal paperwork filed over the weekend.

The filings were part of a lawsuit Kesha filed last year against her former producer Dr. Luke for sexual assault and battery. The suit contained a number of horrific allegations. Kesha said that Dr. Luke, whose given name is Lukasz Gottwald, started pursuing her sexually as soon as he signed her at age 18, and that he forced her to imbibe alcohol and drugs so he could take advantage of her. Kesha also accused Gottwald of threatening to kill her dogs and blackmailing his wife into having an abortion.

The legal dispute has -- predictably -- gotten very complicated. Gottwald quickly countersued, alleging that Kesha is fabricating these sexual assault claims in order to get out of her recording contract with his production company.

In the meantime, though, the contract remains in force, preventing Kesha from working with anyone but Dr. Luke -- which essentially means she can't work at all. Hence the most recent filings, which say that her career will be "effectively over" unless the court grants an injunction allowing her to escape the contract

I feel really sorry for her. Seems like a bad situation.

I was wondering where this all was at. I had not heard any news in a long long time gosh what was it a year ago since the last thread.,

The other day I wondered what happened to Kesha.

I actually thought Warrior was a fantastic album, and it showed some potential for what she could do in the future. Not hearing new music from her is actually kind of frustrating, especially with such a scummy situation.

She can always get a job.

It's what she's trying to do.

Can't she still write for other artists until this gets resolved?

Or would she still have to work with Dr. Luke to do that.

She wrote that one Britney Spears hit a few years ago "Till the World Ends" although I think that was also produced by Dr. Luke

How does the label even expect her to make anything with Dr. Luke after all of this?

Editing this post out; it was the wrong reply and I made it on a total skim of the OP where I missed that she wanted to be freed from a contract with someone who sexually assaulted her. I had thought that it was just some random contract dispute blocking her from making more money, and I let my sympathy for other struggling artists guide me to making a callous reply. I apologize to anyone I might have offended. This post is probably my most fleshed out thought in this thread. Feel free to take me up on that discussion or yell at me there.

God, this whole thing sucks. The judge should act quickly, even if the allegations are false (which I don't think is likely, but still).

As much as I though her music and music her image promoting said music was absolute rubbish, I really hope she makes more music. Its disheartening to see someone's dream shatter just like that and who know, maybe she will make good music now that all her shitty writers are no longer with he.

Joke post? Or stupid post?
She's worth $40 million. Most bands I like still work day jobs. Cry me a river.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, it's horrible to be contractually exclusive with the asshole who did that to her; on a human level, that should get resolved. It's awful. I just absolutely don't care about the musical impact of Kesha -- someone who never has to work again, who produces samey pop treacle -- not being able to release more stuff right now.

You do realize her producer -- the one whom she's trying to get away from -- likely has a strong impact upon the music she makes?

Aye, getting sexually assaulted and cornered into a crooked contract is all good when she's got cash despite no means of furthering her career right? Fucked up b

Which bands do you like?

Oh wait, do you 'seriously doubt we've heard of them?'
No, I'm talking about bands that sell out big theaters. And that's the really sad thing. For every musician who is not a major pop star, there is a huge struggle to get by. I have a lot more sympathy for them and their career struggles than Kesha's, and so should most people.

What is wrong with you?

Old version of the post; I hadn't even seen the assault charge and posted too hastily, apologies. That really does suck; I'm talking more about the business situation than the personal one though.

I've got sympathy for victims of sexual assault regardless of their income, and so should you.

Edit: What do yo mean you didn't see the assault charge? It's in the fucking OP.

I know you don't care about her musical impact, but I hope you care to know you're kind of a douche.

I dunno, I think it's quite fair to have sympathy for the career struggles of someone who was repeatedly sexually assaulted by their producer but that's just me.

I miss her music so much. I hate that her contract prevents her from leaving the comoany without working with that scumbag again.

How they make her work with a convicted sex offender?

I mean their was a trial right? He's guilty right?

Or...did everyone just convict him cause he has a penis and she signed a shitty contract?

C'mon guys. I'm no fan of her music, but nobody deserves to go through what she's experienced as a result of this douchelord. She sure as hell doesn't deserve to go broke either.

I like pop so I might be biased, but there's always something off about people who go out of their way to talk about how much they hate pop.

I'm not familiar with the situation. Who's telling the truth? From people's reactions, Kesha?

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of pop music ( I hate most of it, except for a few acts I love weirdly) but it's not hard to have sympathy for someone in this situation.

It's almost like -- almost -- this isn't a court of law and people are welcome to make their own opinions on what happened, given the evidence in front of them, where there are different standards than what might happen with a conviction in front of a jury of your peers!!!
