Killer 7: descent into awesome!

Brandon F

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Day 1: Neat! This difficulty selection music is both dynamic and ultra catchy! GAF recommends normal, I'll too be a pansy. Hmm, game wastes no time dropping me right into assignment, game +1. The gouraud-shading and minimalist approach works beautifully, surprised how much so. Control is wonky, had to reset game to switch inverted aim on from title menu, WTF Japan?! Much better...now if only I can find a way to turn off the Twin sPeaks talk.

Ok I see what's going on here. Straightforward mazes and simple logic puzzles, this is most definately a Capcom game! Can't really get a feel on the shooting nor what advantages each personality offer yet. Seems very clumsy so far. Pressing on.

HOLY CRAP! Harman Smith is total CLASS! Angel boss is easy, but damn Harman stole the show. Nice use of anime to provide exposition. Japan might be blown up? Ok, I'm now officially intrigued.

Day 2: Sweet, this Japanese household looks great, glad the settings take a dramatic shift. Still can't stand talking to that puppet helper, why isn't there a dialogue skip feature? I read faster than his inane backward talk. Decided to plunk serum upgrades into Dan because the game hasn't given me a reason to choose anyone else yet....scratch that, I needed to use the thief guy to unlock doors and jump onto the roof of this dojo. Useful personality I guess.

Hmm, girl has a scope on her gun, probably shoulda dumped points into her instead of Dan. Starting to get a better feel for the combat too. Lots of variety in the enemy types and the shooting has a quasi-lightgun approach to it. Heh, this game probably could have been RE: Survivor done well with Guncon support! Damn, gotta remember to switch inverted on before loading my game, stupid that it doesn't save that!

Heh, so when does death by mahjong hit XBLA? I'm starting to become hopelessly obsessed with this plotline, but the game needs more Harman! Also, those screams eminating from Harman's trailer shack give me the creeps. Samantha WTF?

Day 3: Man, even the anime in this game is so bloody stylish! I want more...but with Harman! Cowboy texas town also looks fabulous! I'm starting to love the other characters more too. Tossing knives with Kevin is a nice diversion, and Coyote's "You're Fucked!" is the greatest game soundbyte ever! Gush, gush, gush!

Capcom is invincible! Fuck it all, I'm finally buying PNO3 after this.

Good to hear that you're liking it. Im replaying it on hard difficulty myself and I'm enjoying it as much as the first time through

Dont listen to this guys, PN03 is a great game, one of my favorites on the gamecube....(but yeah its not for everyone)

Capcom rules. Period. Oh, and PN03 rocks. Just go into it thinking old-style, arcade-style shooter game and you'll like it.

Now Capcom, hurry up with my Okami!!!

yeah, you just might want to reconsider that last part.

I second that motion

Oh god, I love Killer 7. I was saddened when many of my friends refused to play it because of middling reviews. They're missing out on one of the best games on Gamecube.

And I do agree that PN03 is badass. It just takes a while to realize that most of the movement (and the controller setup) is based on strafing, unlike most action games.

Btw, I started off using Dan, too. It wasn't until I started using Kevin often that I realized how easy headshots can really be. Dan is actually kind of crappy compared to Kevin. Now, unless I need a specific persona, i use Kevin almost exclusively.

Killer 7 is what I should've been playing this weekend, instead of subjecting myself to an odd mix of amazement and disappointment in RE4-PS2.

Don't listen to them. PN03 is a good game. Just don't go in expecting a story.

Or good controls. Or non-frustrating gameplay. Or something un-reptitive. Just go in expecting to replay levels over and over again, memorizing patterns of generic robots like some broken form of gameplay that went out fashion 15 years ago. And don't forget to use your super move to kill the end boss. But don't worry, like Kirby's Air Ride, the game gets better after like 15 hours.

This an orgy love thread of Killer 7/PN 03 and you're the sweaty hater that is gonna kill our collective buzz. Bitch, get the fuck out!

Killer 7 = GREAT.AM.TOTAL
PN03 = OK.AM.DECENT.

PN03 is worth it at $10-20. It's worth the time you put into it, but it's no classic no sir.

Killer 7 + RE4 + DMC3(SE) + Oni4 + MMX: IH = Holy Shit Capcom is Back. Let's hope their roll keeps going!

Nope, not a classic like Killer 7. Few games are, though.

Agreed, but the controls aren't bad like DrLazy said. And the gameplay isn't frustrating. It is a bit repetitive though.

DON'T DO IT!

I'm glad Killer 7 is getting more much deserved love but don't buy P.N.03. Found it new for $10. Worst $10 I ever spent.

I liked that too but I liked Con's "Fuck you!" better. I enjoyed the actual way he said it. "FUKYOO!"

I've only just started on the second disc of Killer 7, but so far I've enjoyed it about as much as PN03. Both fun games IMO. I don't know when I'll be able to finish K7, because I've gotten a bunch of "Disc read error" messages while playing it. My cube am die total.

I´m halfway the last mission, and so far I´m loving it. It´s not that the gameplay is superb or anything, but the gaming experience is one of the best I´ve had in years. It´s so unique an special that it´s hard not to fall in love with it.

Picked up Killer 7 used for like 15 bucks, but it doesn't look like the guy that sold it played past the first mission. Case and discs are just about as mint as a used game gets.

Played to the second mission, then I got RE4 in the mail...I liked what I was playing, but I have to finish RE4 first before I get back into it...

Currently playing PN 03 and loving it. Will get Killer 7 as soon as I find it at something less than 60 Euros.

That's strange, I've seen Killer 7 for a lot cheaper than 60 Euros at several online shops here in Sweden at least (incidentially, I ordered the GC version for like 15 euros yesterday).

I would recommend play.com, as they have the GC version for 48 euro (although I find that too expensive myself) but it appears they're sold out for now. They have the PS2 version for 29 euro though.

But if you're going for the GC version, why not import (along with freeloader)?

I love Killer7 and I thought P.N.03 was pretty cool aswell, you just have to understand that it is more like an old school shooter....i guess people were expecting something more like Lara Croft or some shit when the game was released, which is a shame; its pretty damn fun and the upgrades are great.

IMO it was an average rail shooter that tried to be as bizarre as possible by jumpin on that post modern "game is art" bandwagon. the game was just downright incoherent

Finished it yesterday. Truly an awesome game.

Can somebody explain what the hell was going on at the ending sequence though?

The scene with Harman and Kun Lan 100 years later? Harman is God and Kun Lan is the devil, and it was just showing how they enjoy playing games with eachother (the chess game they were playing in the Forbidden Room was a metaphorical parallel to the events happening in real life) and that history will repeat itself as long as they're around.

There's a pretty well done plot analysis over at Gamefaqs, I suggest you check it out.

I wasn't expecting anything out of P.N.03 but a fun game. I didn't get that. Instead I got a clunky shooter that had a good concept but that's it.
