Kilzone dev: 'Not long now for some news'

Probably because the game wasn't intended to be a combat simulation - it's more on par with a gritty, near-future SF war movie. And just like in the movies, you want people to be able to see the faces of the key characters, so that the player can better identify with them. (Guerrilla did a nice job with the characters' faces, too, particularly considering the hardware the game's running on.) It's a humanizing touch. And having all the Helghast run around in helmets and rebreather masks while the heroes run around bare-faced reinforces their ominous, inhuman anonymity - it just works nicely from a visual standpoint.

That doesn't stop Halo from offering soldiers that look different and have cool personalities.
If the main cast doesn't wear helmets that's fine(they are stubborn officers) but atleast make the grunts wear them.

wow. Arguing about why the soldiers don't wear helmets in a sci-fi shoot'em up alien invasion VIDEO GAME?

While your at it, why doesn't Rambo wear a helmet?

Why stop at helmet, dude is truely going no armor at all :lol

*which rocks by the way

Rambo is one silly man.

Second, it's not an alien invasion, it's just humans vs humans.

Thirdly, why do they care to armour the rest of the body and not the head?
Guerrilla have always prompted that they wanted a realistic look. This destroys that image somewhat imho.

For graphics reasons obviously. Human faces > helmets.

Why the fuck do you care so much? Get the pole out of your ass.

That's the explanation. It's science fiction, not a military simulator. It's for presentation reasons and it's the right call.

I get your point, but KZ isn't realistic even if that was Guerrilla's intention. Besides, a little bitty helmet isn't going to protect year head from being shattered into bits with the guns in KZ anyway.

Back to next gen KZ, its artwork is looking even better than the original

If there's one area Guerrilla has Bungie beat in, its art. I loved the way Killzone looked, the compliments stop there. I always felt that Halo was very generic looking all around, still do.

Shrapnel. It's all about the shrapnel. Also because of basic protection. I can't name how many times I've banged my (helmet protected)head when I was a grunt.
But let's move on now, anyone have those other leaked art shots? A Helghast piloting a futuristic jet fighter and with a big AT-AT sort of machine walking across a city.

I don't think PS3 will have any problems capturing the feel of that artwork.

I'm sure PS3 would have no problems with it, the question is will the developer have a problem with it

Awesome design on those aircrafts.
I like how the gun looks like it's on the sting of a giant insect. Those 'antennas' work aswell.

I wonder what's up with Killzone 2. That artwork is labeled KZ3, and its for Killzone PS3. KZ2 is suppose to be a PS2 game and we've heard nothing about it. I don't even think artwork has been released for it unlike for KZ3 (and KZ PSP).

Maybe it's strictly academic. Maybe Killzone "2" will be the port of Killzone PS3 to the PS2. Or maybe Killzone 2 is a holiday 2006 PSP game.

People that follow gaming news know that these things are labeled as KZ3 images, but I'd wager that the average magazine reader doesn't. Killzone "3" will be a PS3 title and "2" will be a PS2 or PSP title that launches near the same time.

Maybe KZPSP will be Killzone 2? Or maybe Killzone 2 PS2 has been cancelled?

it would be stupid if they made a quick Killzone 2 for the PS2 before releasing next-gen Killzone (3) for the PS3. It immediately lowers the quality of the series and would turn into whoring out.

That's unless it turns out to be much better than the original which will build the anticipation for KZ3 even more.

Nah. Will be cooler to see some people eat crow(as in, no warming up with a good PS2 sequel).
Im saying now that Killzone PS3 is going to be a great game and a good success and Im ready for dish of crow if I deserve it but I highly doubt it. :)

Is this supposed to be a launch game.

The E3 demo/vid was one of the most intense and stunning gameplay / target video i've ever seen.
Graphics are doable. It would be nice if it made launch.

Yes, much better than from any other shooter I've seen. But it's obvious where they got their inspiration from, so it's not that original after all.

I would guess 2007. Judging by recruitment ads, my guess is they really only started to knuckle down on this in the latter half of last year.

E3 2007 should be interesting then.

I have no faith whatsoever in guerilla when it comes to making a quality game, but they have at least proven themselves to be masters of hype, so at the very least i expect whatever they put out 'soon' will prove interesting.

Killzone was an above average FPS game. It's only their second or third game. They are doing a lot better than companies that are around for ages.

I don't understand where your faith in this series comes from.

(Oh, BTW I noticed when the mods changed your avatar to Moron, don't think no one saw that :lol)

Actually, it(Killzone) was the teams first game. There was another team within Guerrilla that released Shellshock a few months earlier(though I guess some people worked on both projets). Guerrilla are very much in their infancy.

If Killzone had been released last autumn(witht the extra polish) Im sure many would see it as a great game.

Actually that was of my own doing due to my crazy thread. :)
I changed it back like 10mins later or so.

According to that developer Joris de Man has left Guerrilla, shame - the music was very good in the first game, I hope they get a competent replacement for this game.

Seriously? That's a huge loss. Killzone actually had one of the best soundtracks this gen.
